Dubai has one of the biggest foreign aid budgets in the middle east. With that said, why wouldn't they be making these attractions if they are profiting from them?

I dunno, watch this vid though, crazy
as an artist, i love dubai. it is the most intense, over-the-top place in the world. architecture there is INSANE.
i am however beginning to consider it a slice of desert decadence. i love the architecture but do they need that much? furthermore, a lot of the projects are doing serious damage to the ecosystem, particularly those in the war. it disrupts the natural patterns of many animals, esp. sea turtles

You realize that they will run out of money then start to borrow from everyone then they will sell off those amazing buildings/locations bit by bit till the whole city is owned by foreigners, they are digging there own graves with extravagant spending, ill just sit back and lolBuyugold
They'll make billions off this city in the longrun. They have tons of $$$. They'll be fine. Dubailand is projected to get over 200,000 visitors A DAY. Think of all the $$$$$.

Yea, the tower in dubai that rotates has windmills built in every level and the entire thing is powered by wind.
I like how some of you are under the uninformed thinking that everywhere in the Middle East = women wearing things over their heads. The only country where one is required to wear that is in Saudi Arabia which is run by extremist muslims that practice wahabism(sp?). That would be like the USA being a theocracy run by extremist evvangelical christians. I think in Iran, liberal compared to Saudi Arabia and noit run by extremists but still a theocracy, women have to wear one as well, but im not sure if it is required by law. Afghanistan used to have that law under teh Taliban(other extremist muslims) however they have been deposed and that is no longer required.
Also there was that poster who said the "population of the middle east is having its hardest time" acting as if it is one nation. The oil rich nations are making more than ever due to increasing fuel costs, and are not facing the problems of other nations such as afghanistan, pakistan, palestine, iraq. You can't just group an entire region and act as if it is all the same
And to the person saying there is extreme polarization ( either one is rich or poor), well that is capitalism.

Which makes it right?
A **** load of oil money combined with one crazed architect. Who can say first symbol of a developing Ecumenopolis. This goes on my list of top cites to visit before I die.tb254Only about 10% of the citys monety is from oil. Its almost dried up. theyre just getting all the money from tourists.

By the time the city is completely finished, It won't be "polarized." I'd move there if the opportunity comes up in the future, the Air Force has great benefits!
