I was fat, I know what it's like to be ridiculed and without the ridicule I'd never have the determination to lose the weight. Now my BMI is 18.7 and not 30.0

Good for you dude.

[QUOTE="JC346"][QUOTE="CreepingDeath_"][QUOTE="T_P_O"] But it would still apply anyway.

Actually, yeah. It's most likely his fault that he's fat anyway.

I'm not blaming it on anyone else.

I know, but I don't think you should be so defensive about it.

This thread makes me sad, i don't understand why everyone has such a big problem with the movement, dont stereotype fat people that is cruel to think the way some of you do.mexicangordo
Cause why should fat people have those rights to esentially be fat. They take up more resources so they should pay more for medical premiums, medical insurance, plane seats, and just general things.

Anyone else feel this way :?Toriko42

Agreed entirely; I think it's disgusting that someone would want to remain unhealthy and try to pass off grotesque body shapes as "beautiful." Nothing aggrivates me more than those stupid shows that occasionally come on about how "being big is wonderful."

Ick.

Ugh like Showbiz Tonight...I can't stand that. I just don't think I could be in a relationship with a fat person either. It says a lot about their personality if they're fat by glutton.

So you think that they have this movement because they have to pay more for materialistic things, or do you think they have this movement in order to stop people bulling over them, or perhaps for support for eachother and to show that losing weight isn't as easy as the world tries to make it seem. Or to even show that its ok to be over wieght, you dont need a six pack to live a happy life. Seriously some people need to open their eyes. Do you think the Gay pride movements is only about gay men dancing in the street?

I think they are trying to ignore the fact that they are obese or they want others to think it's a 'good' thing. Why else would one of the sites have an advertisement for 'BBW (Big Beautiful Women) dating'

I am not over weight myself or anything close but i see obese or bigger people get picked on all the time, they have self conifident issues, many think they are ugly. Who really want's to be over wieght? You think they don't know this? Things and movements such as those help them to cope with it, its not tricking anyone or anything, and they are trying to live their lives without the oppression of our society that actually makes everyone believe that you must look a certain way to live a great life.

I've been there man. I was fat myself and considered near Obese now I'm 18.7 BMI and happy. Trust me, if you know what I went through you'll see why I feel this way. I tried a lot to cope with it and make myself think that I was good looking but no, I was just fat and gross. It stopped me from doing a lot of things and my life really...really...sucked. Once I took the initiative to lose weight and I stopped sugar coating it I finally lost weight and I lost pounds 40 while I grew. I went from 5'6 and 175 to 5'11 and 135 and now my life is a lot better, I have no insecurities, I can do anything, I can be athletic, and I attribute this to not sugar coating my problem and pretending like it was ok.

Exactly, you gotta remember that there isn't some formula. Not every fat person goes through the same thing, back in the freshman year of highschool, i gained 30 pounds over 5 months due to depression, a very heavy depression. If it wasn't for the support from many of my family and friends i wouldn't be as fit as I am now. And thats what some people out their need, an extra push of motivation that makes them think," yea i can do this."

Let them do what they want. If they want to remain fat, that's there choice. But it's stupid for them to complain about the two airplane seats thing, and stuff like that.needled24-7

Some call it fat acceptance, I call it lazy fat people not wanting to diet.

Sizeism? You must be kidding

Fat people like to complain a lot about how they have to buy two seats on a plane...well why shouldn't they. I pay 20 bucks for extra luggage, your 150 pound overweight body should also have to compensate since that is the size of a normal human.

America and Canada need to do more about fat people. Garnish their wages until they lose weight, make them enter programs, have fat camps, give incentives for them to lose weight. All it does it cost us money for their healthcare, and it makes the country less healthy.

Anyone else feel this way :?Toriko42

Well fat people do buy more food and use up more gas because of excess vehicle weight which i suppose is good for the economy. Be aware that there is a group of fat people that have genetic disorders where they gain weight very fast and in some ethinic groups its heretic to be fat and thats just how it is. As for fat people who just eat a lot and neglect exercise, who cares, its their choice, just as long as they dont complain about it.

Also, if we somehow end up in an ice age or very cold weather due to so called global warming i wouldnt mind an extra 50lbs of blubber to keep me warm.

thats the most ridiculous thing ive ever heard. you have to get YOURSELF out of bed. fat people DO sit around, they sit around waiting for the answer to fall in their laps, and they'd rather waste money on diet pills and plans than actually get fit, because pills and special foods are only a quick fix, they are lazy and they need to motivate their own damn selves.

TC, I'm sure there's a difference between being truly concerned for a person's health and supporting them than ridicule just because of utter contempt. I don't know about you, but I lost pounds because of the support of loved ones and Friends who worried about me, not through ridicule and humiliations. Those negative aspects just lowered by self esteem and made think that may current condition was hopeless. It was the positive aspects that help bear me through the goal I wanted, not ridicule.I'm sure you out of all people would never criticize/ridicule a overweight person you barely knew simply because of their current conditions, they may be dieting/exercising without you even knowing it and telling them that they need to lose weight is hurtful to them because it implies that the progress or methods they are doing are not working and thus give up altogether ( it happened to me numerous times).

Like I, and I think a single other person has said, you need to shut your mouth until you know a person's situation. You cannot judge someone on how they look without knowing their situation. There could be a 250lbs person who's living healthier than you ever have in your life. You might get defensive, but here's the thing: That person may have weighed 350lbs relatively recently. You can see a fat person and berate them for being lazy, apathetic, and uninformed because they aren't necessarily any of those.

[QUOTE="Darth_Tyrev"]That's impossible, because not everyone is fat due to over eating and/or lack of exercise. Like all ignorance, people apply a large group of people to one stereotype. If you try to get everyone who's fat to lose weight (through forceful means, as you suggested), it's not very fair to those who have conditions that make it impossible to do so. It would be much more logical (and less dick-ish) to just try to raise awareness of how unhealthy some food is, and to promote exercise and portion control (as many are already doing, i.e., "Supersize Me").jointed
That's BS. It's like saying, "you shouldn't stereotype all prison inmates as criminals...some are innocent". Yes, some have a condiation, but they're in the absolute minority. Oh, and this has nothing to do with ignorance.

Provide some evidence supporting the notion that most fat people are lazy and unproductive.

You consume calories, you burn calories. It is pretty simple. If you keep getting fatter the source of that fat has to come from somewhere. If you're not burning off what you eat you get fat. Being fat is 100% the fault of the fat person.

And you completely missed the point of what I just said. Being fat is (generally) the fault of the person, yes. But you cannot know how fat the person used to be. You missed the part about making fun of a 250lbs person when for all you know he could've lost 100lbs already. And because of that, a fat person is not necessarily ignorant to any facts, apathetic, or lazy, and therefore if you berate a fat person without knowing their current and past situation, you run the chance of making yourself an ass.

A fat person is fat because a fat person is fat. They had to get there somehow. Whether or not they've lost 100lbs doesn't change the fact that they're 70lbs overweight. They got there because of their own laziness and unhealthy lifestyle.

I agree with you, but 150 lbs. is not at all overweight.

I'm just glad I can maintain my weight right now without having to exercise or eat healty. I'm about 170 now, and I will work as hard as I have to to keep it there, even though right now that's none at all.

There should be a Fat Tax, that'd soon make people want to lose weight and get healthy!

That's impossible, because not everyone is fat due to over eating and/or lack of exercise. Like all ignorance, people apply a large group of people to one stereotype. If you try to get everyone who's fat to lose weight (through forceful means, as you suggested), it's not very fair to those who have conditions that make it impossible to do so. It would be much more logical (and less dick-ish) to just try to raise awareness of how unhealthy some food is, and to promote exercise and portion control (as many are already doing, i.e., "Supersize Me").Darth_Tyrev

very well said...i agree

Yeah, I think there's a difference between accepting who you are and being proud that you're fat.

[QUOTE="Vandalvideo"][QUOTE="Manly-manly-man"] And you completely missed the point of what I just said.

Does that mean they should be ridiculed?

You know what? I'm sick of people hating on me because I'm a rude, irresponsible, callous, inconsiderate and completely hollow wretch. I could fix the problem, but I'd rather not. Instead, can I have "-ism" to protect me too?

If I were really fat, I certainly wouldn't be proud.

I used to be pretty fat as a child, and I felt like crap at times. So I simply ate a little less and got a little more active and did some exercise and now I am much skinnier than I used to be. I'm still a tiny bit overweight, though.

That's ridiculous. Nobody should feel pride in being unhealthy. What's worse is that they're influencing other people not to change their ways.

Give fat people a break. I used to be really fat, and it isn't a good feeling. It takes a lot of motivation to and will power to lose weight, something that most you do not understand. stupid4

i understand it, thats why i workout and watch what i eat

The difference is that being a rude, irresponsible, callous, inconsiderate and hollow wretch would make you a bad person. Whereas being fat would just make you fat.

If you actually value being ripped as being more important than stuff like contributing to the community.

Hey kids, stop sitting on your ass studying genetics in the hopes of one day improving humanity. Put down those books and go to the gym instead!
