This is the model who Feminists demand must not be on the ad, who Protein World are refusing to take down.

That's NOT the body of a woman who has used protein and muscle-building exercise to banish fat, as the image's use by "Protein World" would seem to imply.

That's the body of a woman who was fortunate enough to be born with a "ectomorphic" body type and a high metabolism that enables her to maintain a lean appearance without having to bulk up on muscle tissue.

The image SHOULD be taken down, not to appease the feminists but because it constitutes misleading advertising.

Disagree, people can still choose to be lean.

I am kinda sick of people whining about others being in shape.

Your level of health is your choice, stop taking it out on others if they're in good shape.

As an endomorphic man I find it disheartening to find that people still rely on physical image to determine "fitness".

Being lean and/or having rippling muscles proves that one can maintain a strong metabolism and follow a very strict meal plan. Cardiovascular health and endurance, muscular strength and endurance and overall ability to achieve new goals and not "plateau" or compete and win consistently... that's a testament to fitness. And not everyone who is "fit" looks like an ectomorph, whether male or female. Especially those who compete in strength competitions.

The idea that fitness is related to "shape" is ironic, given that muscle strength and cardiovascular health aren't related to "shape" at all. Professional athletes die from acute cardiovascular episodes despite being "in shape".

Finally, a defeat for political correctness. There is little reason for feminism to be in the US now. It needs to go to places like the Middle East and South Asia, places where women are actually oppressed. If you're an American woman, you have it better than most of the world's population. I thought I'd never say this, but check your fucking privilege. If you're an American woman, you're not oppressed. Oppression is when you can't stand up for yourself or your group (whatever group that may be) without being threatened with arrest, torture, or execution by the party in power. American women can vote, run for office, dress how they want, act how they want, get married at will, initiate divorce, have their own careers, and generally just live their lives how they please. Women are still considered property in some parts of the world. And shut the **** up with this patriarchy shit. Saudi Arabia is an actual fucking oppressive patriarchy. I guarantee that if any one of these white suburban radical "feminists" had to spend a year in Saudi Arabia under their rules, they'd be begging to come back to the US.

Contemporary feminists in the US bitch about the most trivial shit, which actually reveals how good they have it. If showing some boobs in video games or movies is your worst problem, then holy hell you have a good life. All they do is bitch about the "patriarchy" and women in media and how men are supposedly "imperfect women" or a "biological accident". Jesus Christ, these people need to pull their heads out of their asses and realize that they are anything BUT oppressed. Not sure if these "feminists" are serious or just bored. Either way, they're idiots. And they're doing serious damage to the image of feminism. Feminism nowadays is usually synonymous with whiny male basher. True feminism is actually advocating women having equal rights with men, as opposed to female supremacy, which is what the average Tumblr feminist advocates.

/rant

I knew this would turn into a feminist hate thread, but man that was fast.

Feminism still has a place in the US. Good luck trying to support woman's rights in places like the Middle East. It's only getting worse for woman in that region, it is unlikely to get better.

.. Could you imagine these cow's reactions if in the Superman vs Batman trailer instead of seeing two incredibly fit men in skin tight outfits they saw two women? These people sound like angry fat women over anything else.. Especially now in which men's physiques are focused on as much if not more than women in media now.. As we are seeing in Superman, Avengers, Wolverine, 300, Fast and Furious, James Bond..

Yup, all feminists hate men and think they're the enemy. That's one way to generalize an entire social group.

Saying feminism has no place in the US because other countries have it far worse is just simple minded. Gender equality can be improved in the US. It isn't going to improve in regions that are dictated by Islamic law.

Which comes off as really weird to me.. Have they been watching media as of late? Men physiques have never been so focused on as they have now, compare the current Superman to Christopher Reeve's Superman.. Compare the old James Bond's to current James Bond's for instance.. They may actually be taken seriously if they had some perspective in the matter.. Fitness is the rage now, regardless of sex.

There are women these days who disassociate themselves with the term "feminist" because of idiots who have a professional victim complex and actively seek out things to be "offended" by.

What about gender in the US is unequal between men and women?

There is definitely an issue with people who are gender-queer and the like, but women have had equal rights for decades now.

These crybabies aren't real feminists. And women in this country are more or less equal with men. There are some issues on both sides, like the pay gap and favoring of women over men in court, but nothing that really threatens lives. Seriously, feminism doesn't have much of a place here anymore. If it did, women would be decrying actual inequalities instead of retarded crap like women's portrayal in video games, which holds no water compared to what women in other places of the world have to deal with every day.

I find myself wishing that the feminists doing this were identified as some specific group of feminists (perhaps it's not a specific group). As it stands it this article, as well as many users in this thread, seem to be lumping anyone who identifies as feminist (which for the record simply means you want equality between the sexes) as a person who is against this company.

Why hasn't them complaining to practically 99% of female products out there? Victoria Secret? Almost all facial products. All hair products. All etc....

Anyway, this kind of KKK or FFF are terrible bullies. Yes, it is same as KKK at its core because they want the world to revolve around them and making other people's life harder. While FFF is not actually putting people on fire, it is still a social group that is out to make others miserable.

I was going to rebut your kkk claim, however you seem to have already done an admirable job of that .

Actually it doesn't look like she works out dude.

To be fair, that just seems to be standard "bullshit in advertising". Pretty much every "health centric" company is gonna do advertising with models, and it's pretty accepted to just use a good looking model. Unless you outright LIE and say "this model looks like this because she used our product, then I don't see the big issue.

Anyway, this looks like a bunch of bullshit on all sides. For starters, i don't see a particular problem with the ad. Secondly, I don't really see how the complaints are based around "feminism". Seems less about feminism, and more about the ad being dismissive to certain body types (so..."shapeism?"). And thirdly, the only reason the company is responding in the first place is to drum up good will from elitism. Lots of companies get complaints like this, and don't even feel the need to bother defending themselves because why would they have to defend themselves?

This is a total non-issue from all angles.

I have 0 problems with that photo. This merely states "That is your opinion, this is mine" and that's the right way to do things...now "that is not my idea, it needs to be taken down" attitude is ridiculous. Don't like it, do better...don't just sit behind a computer and write blogs about "the evils of a man dominated society"...

I do have to say it's funny that 2 thin girls are trying to counter-act an ad about a thin girl though....the bikini is god-awful too XD

What's the problem with saying that it needs to be taken down? No one saying that it needs to be taken down has the authority to take it down, which means that such demands have about as much weight as a fart in the wind. As long as they don't do anything illegal, like saying, "I will kill you unless you take this ad down", then I don't see the big problem.

When all the loudest feminist voices are radical, that's what you get. Besides, feminism is not equal rights between the sexes. At best, that's an empty claim to make feminism more sellable to men.

An equal rights advocate is called an egalitarian.

@LJS9502_basic: Which both sides? Protein World and the "feminists"? Yeah, I guess. Everything is an opinion but one of them is doing their job and not forcing anyone to do anything and the others are trying to prevent people from doing their job and expressing their views. I don't really think it's equivalent.

As for why it's getting notice I don't know. For me it was because someone made a thread about it =P

Eh. Ads are meant to persuade people to purchase a product. I don't see anything wrong with consumer input. The product will either sell or not in the end and the marketing can be judged then. But I don't see how consumers voicing an opinion should be a negative. It did wonders for MS after their initial E3. Without consumer dissatisfaction they would have released it as is. And it would have tanked. They course corrected and are still in business.

@LJS9502_basic: I think I didn't explain myself well enough...it's not people showing dissatisfaction with the campaign itself...it's the fake moral outrage and the threats of vandalism that are over the top. If I don't like the price increase in my local supermarket I can voice my displeasure and if nothing is done I can shop somewhere else, that's about as far as I can go. Threatening to trash the place because they don't sell my favourite brand of yogurt is not "consumer feedback". Plus, I don't think the people complaining are Protein World consumers to begin with...just women who happened to see a skinnier woman in an ad.

Nonetheless you last sentence is kind of interesting in so much as the image projected by the media to young girls/women has led to some eating disorders as well. There is a fine line I guess I'm saying between how we tell our teens they should look and reality. Body types exist and not everyone can look the same. Not talking specifically about this case here.....but sometimes criticism can be valid as well.

@korvus: I think that's hitting the nail on the head. This is fake outrage by people with no direct investment in fitness, who got their feelings hurt by an attractive young woman being attractive.

Even ignoring that being offended is'nt an argument for anything, the world would grind to a halt if we were to pay special attention to every single need felt by everyone.

Mweh, something is wrong with my ability to express myself today. My mind must be too clear :(

@LJS9502_basic: Like you said, all body types exist, so should skinny women be prevented from working on the ad market? If not, who's going to decide how many companies (and which) are allowed to use skinny women in their campaigns? There's no way to do it right. It's not up to the media to reassure teenagers...if I run a fitness company do I need to think of people who are not in my target demographic? Do I need to think of black people if I'm advertising tanning lotion? Do I need to think of Muslims if I sell pork?

@korvus: *Takes a deep sip and waits*

I think the very first tweet in the OP says it all really: "Why make your insecurities our problem?" Some will consider it rude, but it's really dead on.

Edit: Also, you can bet your ass that my body will be flashed a couple of months from now :) I'm going to muscle my way into some pretty girl's heart (pun totally intended).

@MlauTheDaft: Are you sure you want to be with a girl who only likes you for your body? Doubt you'll make it to her heart, probably just to her panties, which is fine, if that's what you're after.

@Renevent42: Thanks, I guess. Although it may not be meant as praise xD.

@korvus: I'm sure, I'll be fine once they get to know me. Just need some flash to get them past my shyness and into my nasty apartment! A woman already decided to marry me once, so I can't be all bad ;)

Soooo... just like every ad in the world, it tries to decide for us when we can't think for ourselves.

Why are they bitching again? I forgot.

So I take it the majority of feminists are big ladies?

And single. That includes the white knights who wear fedoras.

Holy. What do I have to buy from them to get the CEO's body?

Honestly probably a bit of Testosterone injections and maybe some HGH.

Good to see a company standing their ground...feminist/sjw group has become waay to extreme. Encouraging vandalism now?..are they? :P

Third wave feminists seem to believe they can combat violence, sexism, and racism with… violence, sexism, and racism. These people are the left wing tea party. They come across to me as being pretty close to a religious group, and sadly enough, the religious group they seem to resemble the most is Scientology.

@LJS9502_basic: She is a model who has to exercise to keep in shape; it is guaranteed that she works out.

Ah yes....opinion posted as fact. You have no idea what she does or does not do. People are born with their body type. Some do nothing to remain thin. And her body is not the body of someone working out. There is a difference. You just look at how skinny she is and think that's a fit body. Not true.

Ads are notorious for skirting the truth. I will not automatically believe everything they tell me. Looking at her....I don't SEE evidence of working out.

Nope. It's a logical inference posted as what it is. She was naturally skinny but had to work hard to keep it healthy and fit: There are models with that body type who do specific exercises and diet plans and achieve that in a natural way, without starving onself or photoshop.

LOL you are naive. I watch ads all the time and wonder about people that believe them. Guess they do exist. Her body does NOT look like the body of someone who works out. Period. And you know what....the brand is selling skinny so they don't care.

Never been to a gym? Plenty of girls look like that and do work out. It's actually pretty damn common.

@Buckhannah: @Gaming-Planet: I'm reading the articles/responses of the typical SJW sympathizing websites and they absolutely detest that Protein World is refusing to back down....I can smell their disdain that a company has finally said 'No'. And they are so salty.
