I disagree. If 100% of the world's governments point to a region of a map and all say "that's part of Georgia", then I'm going to say control isn't required for Georgia to lay claim.
Oleg_Huzwog
obviously the seperatists disagree. and since they (had) have control, it wasn't their's for the time being.
[QUOTE="loco145"][QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"]Nah...the UN won't care.
Edit: Out of curiousity...why are you against them getting help?
LJS9502_basic
To prevent escalation?
So sacrifice a country?Sacrifice one and soon enough you'll find you've lost 6.

The Ossetian seperatists' views are no more relevant then those of the Alaska Independence Party. It doesn't matter what they say. You have no sovereign status when exactly zero foreign governments recognize your sovereignty.
Russia wants pro-western Saakashvili out...Russia also wants to finish off Georgia's control over Ossetia and Abkhazia totally....
I guess we should have gotten rid of Russia when we had the chance. (Not to say we still couldn't) I just feel sorry for the citizens.
Anamosa41
what does that mean? When did you have the chance? Alternate history is funny in this case...
I'm going to assume you didn't understand my comment. For the record...I think Russia needs to be stopped.Sacrifice one and soon enough you'll find you've lost 6.

Hey! Dude, watch what you say. I'm not talking about just killing them all. I'm talking about taking over during the cold war. They are up to no good, none what-so-ever. My advice to you is to find out what someone is talking about before judging them. What did they do to deserve this? Sounds like you all are sure it's their fault ... SimpJee
nope, I'm just bored of proxy wars and actually want to see the Russians shooting people. yeah, I may be heartless, but it eases people's tensions, staving off the next big one (well, except the native Georgia people, but as evidenced they aren't that vocal).
They shouldnt have attacked South Ossetia, but Russia has always been brutal, they dont like Georgia so it will probably be a lesson, I am sure Russia wants to send a message not to ever do that again.deniiiii21The land was belonged to Georgia.....not Russia.
Well, we're faced with quite the dilemma here. Either someone steps in and starts World War III, or none does anything and we have another Soviet Union.
Let's just pray to God that Bush isn't in office when we have to make that decision. Just delay it as long as possible.
-MILITARY SPENDING: Russia's military budget is equivalent to about $40 billion this year, compared to Georgia's $997 million.
- STRENGTH: Russia has 1.1 million soldiers, Georgia has 37,000.
- ARSENALS: The Russian armed forces have about 6,000 tanks and some 1,700 combat aircraft. Georgia has 230 tanks and 12 combat aircraft.
We shouldnt be allying with breakaway Russian countries to begin with.hummer700
Not true, it has 23000 tanks.
I hope that the US doesnt get involved. that would escalate the situation into a new World War. If Russia pushes towards Tbilisi I fear for the safety of many people and many countrries.honkyjoe
Russia is either rebuilding their Soviet empire and America is going to stop them or Russia is making an example out of Georgia and nobody is going to stop them. Which sounds more logical? I'd go with the doomsday scenario, Russia is rebuilding their Soviet empire and we all going to die in a nuclear inferno.
Why do so many people want a doomsday scenario to happen?

Russia isn't rebuilding the old Soviet Union...it would be insanely obvious to EVERYONE and I would think they would have started by taking Ukraine first
corning the market for oil in the area seems more likely, however.

Russia has no goals in this affair other than to answer the call of freedom.
I can't believe no one's helping them yet. What gives Russia the right to continue their assault? SolidSnake35Because no one will step up and help them. Russia is doing what Russia always does....and the west allows it.:(

The same thing that gave the United States the "right" to invade Iraq unilaterally.

The US went to help. Russia just wants to destroy... as far I can tell.[QUOTE="SolidSnake35"]I can't believe no one's helping them yet. What gives Russia the right to continue their assault? xXBuffJeffXx

the Georgian president was democratically elected...

Not that I agree with the Iraq War but there are a few differences between the two.....Of course there are. My point was simply that nobody could stop the "aggressors" in both instances, so they were essentially free to do whatever they wanted.

Sarcasm, right? Even if Georgia wouldn't have killed crap loads of civilians, Russia would still have attacked them for attacking Russian troops. Georgia tried to stab Russia in the back and now they are feeling Russia's wrath. I'm pretty sure Russia is simply showing Georgia their place and making an example out of them. "Mess with us and we invade your country." It's really the same thing the US did after 9/11 and it's a common strategy that many countries have been using since the ancient times. So, really, this is nothing new.
