Of course shes stupid, her parents are stupid times ten and shes 3 years old! I don't know many brilliant 3 years old, do you?
So many! I knew what a Pedo was when I was 3. I was an odd child, but very smart.Am I the only one wondering why a 3 year old girl would want to be playing a game that requires a gun in the first place?
The parents will get charged with negligence leading to death right? Hell they should be chaged with more than that imo.
And yet another death due to Americas gun laws putting weapons into the hands of people like her parents.
Wow...that's hella sad :( my condolences go out to her family, and i hope she rests in peace. Always it's such a shame to see soo many people die sooo young, it's just not right :(
[QUOTE="Hali_Strikes"]The mother's even worse. She was sitting there, watching this unfold. Forgetting to put something away is one thing... but watching your daughter pick up a gun and point it at herself.... how do you not react?wow- the child is not stupid, 3 year olds have a very hard time understanding they can get hurt from anything... let alone a gun, I can see why she was mistaken, you also have to realize that she probably couldn't tell the difference between the gun and the controller because the table was probably taller that her.
that guy should win the stupidest douche father of the year award. who the hell leaves a gun on the table when there's a 3 year old in the house? oh ya, some hick from tennessee.

To be a little fair to the mother I don't know that if I just looked up and saw the kid playing I could differentiate between a real gun and a replica, but the problem I think is that as soon as the dad says, "I'm getting my gun out," something in that mom's brain should be like, "my kid's in the living room playing, make sure she's nowhere near the gun at all times." Of course maybe she didn't realize or expect that the father would be stupid enough to leave it in reach of her child, that is the most brainless thing in this whole story, but I would expect that with a child playing and a gun out a responsible parent would know enough to make sure the gun is nowhere near the kid. "There's no one there, but I'm leaving the gun out just in case." "Is it out of my child's reach?" "Oh hell, that would have been dumb of me, i'll put it on a counter she can't get to."

this is why i support strict gun control...
to think these people had a semi-automatic weapon in their house because they wanted to "protect" their family..
Well I guess it's game over for her.Nerd_Mannot funny man, c'mon, a 3 year old? I couldn't resist. But in all seriousness, I think this is a sad story. I don't know how a parent can leave a loaded gun on a coffee table and leave a three year old child at home when they're away...
I guess she didn't get any 1up's beforehand...............................I'm going to hell aren't I?

You can know what things are at that stage, but you can't really differentiate between things, it's called cognative development. Up until about age two children know only through their senses. When they get to about age two they start to be able to identify things, but cannot describe them. Objects to them have only one meaning, their birthday is not both their birthday and wednesday to them, it's just their birthday. They also cannot judge weight, size, or volume, which only starts to happen between ages seven and eleven.

Probably.
Tell Nerd_man I said Hi when you get there, okay? :P
Well I guess it's game over for her.Nerd_Man

Mediocre jokes aside, those are some dumb parents. WHO THE ***ING HECK LEAVES A GUN RIGHT NEXT TO AN IDENTICAL CONTROLLER?????????

Unfortunately, the article says no charges were filed.
Enough with the joke cracking.....not funny at all...cell_dwellerperhaps, but consider that everything that makes news on the internet (if it's big enough) gets jokes to go along with it at some point or another
I laughed. So you won't be alone, I'm afraid. :(I guess she didn't get any 1up's beforehand...............................I'm going to hell aren't I?

The story sounds way to fishy.....I dont beleive this guy would leave the gun out in plain sight/reachable distance for the child, AND Right next to the wiimote that looks just like it..and the fact that the mom was right there..It doesnt add up.
What bothers me about this article the most is that the step father not only left his gun laying where a 3 year old could reach it, but that he left it LOADED where a 3 year old could reach it. I know plenty of people that own guns, but they keep them unloaded in freaking locked vaults or in locked display cases so there children can't reach them. How idiotic was this guy? It's horrible. Just horrible.
parenting failBiancaDKYeah. There's a law against "inproper storage of a firearm in the presence of a minor" or something that kinda sounds like that right? Basically a law that makes it illegal to let a young child have access to a gun.
Come on dude, she's 3. If I had a list of things you did at 3, there'd be things far stupider than mistaking a real gun for a controller. If this kid had been, like 6 or so i'd still think it was sad but I think you'd have a point. But it's no different than a young child dying of something they put in their mouths. It's just something kids doNatural selection at work.

I don't remember ever being that dumb at the that age.Gaming-Planetwell, right now, you're not exactly making yourself look smart. she's 3 years old. and 3 year olds know nothing yet. this article shows why game guns shouldn't look at all like real guns. also, parenting fail on both sides.
:| The girl was three... She was playing the Wii with a gun shaped controller earlier. How the **** was she supposed to know there was a difference? You earn another :| for your comment.Natural selection at work.

It's the parents fault for leaving a weapon in the open and it's Nintendo's fault in some portion for making a gun controller that looks very similar to a real handgun. I honestly thought that it was a Barreta 9mm at first glance. So a better forum topic would be "Is nintendo making thier controllers too lifelike?" (Plus I don't see why a child should be playing a game that involves any toy gun but that's just a personal opinion)

I knew the difference between a nintendo zapper and a real gun. Maybe it's because I was exposed to it at an early age. A 3 year old knows a lot, trust me. My niece knows like every fast food area out there that I don't even know.
[QUOTE="konvikt_17"][QUOTE="Dark__Link"]Stupid father, stupid mother, and stupid child. The stupid child was the least deserving, though... so this is a shame. :(Dark__Link
how is the child stupid?
she mistook a real gun for a wii controller that looks just like a gun
The real gun weighs over a pound. The toy gun weighs a few ounces. Even a toddler can differentiate between differently weighted objects. How the **** is she suppose to know how "MUCH" a real gun is suppose to weigh compared to a fake gun at the age of three! I dont think you teach kids to know the difference of weight between a fake gun and a real gun, GTFO with that statement. This is not the little girl's fault. The gun and controller look VERY similar. :| The father should not have left out the gun in this case. She was only 3. This is a very sad story indeed. My thoughts and wishes go out to everyone involved...RIP.

"Hmmm, guess that prowler left. Better leave my gun fully loaded with the safety off lying where a three year old can reach it while I saw some logs."
Seriously, wtf kind of logic is that?!
Awful parenting at work here. You don't leave a gun around in reach of little children, and the mother was in the same room?
