I hate rap and hip hop. While there are a few talented artist (Missy Elliot comes to mind,) it not about the actual music, its the whole gansta culture that goes with it. It may sound stupid but I feel that rap is ruining scocety. Just drive turn on MTV. Rappers like 50 Cent have developed this subculture where your only goal is to get rich, do drugs, and have sex with as many women as possible. They look down upon educated people. Their whole state of mind is selfishness. Just watch an episode of Cribs. Songs like "This is Why I'm Hot" and "Party Like a Rockstar" put these ideas in kids heads that its all about them and getting rich instead of helping your fellow human beings. Ask any rapper what they think about the genocide in Darfur or illegal wiretapping. They don't care about those kind of issues. They care about smacking hoes. Not to mention destroying the English language with Eubonics.

But there is hope. Rap sales have dropped 44% since 2000. Hopefully this continues and this horrible subculture disappears and people start caring more about each other than money. (Though, that ain't likley)

See? I knew it was a fad. Hopefully we'll see it crumble and die before the decade is out.

All music sales are dropping. Also, if you switch around some artist's names and a few other words including Rap to Rock in your post it sounds like concerned mother from the 1960's wrote it.

Missy Elliot . Rap isn't going away so fast so don't get your hopes up. The MTV rap is still in full affect even if abbum sales are down, because millions of people download it illegally and the majority are teens who are inspired by it. If you actually knew something about rap you'll see that for the past few weeks the number one albums have been rap, the good kind (Common and UGK). So wake up, all music sales are going down.

Although I'm not a fan of the genre, why should I be happy about this? Just because a genre's sales are sliding, doesn't mean it's going to disappear. Why can't you just let people listen to what they want. No reason to get excited over a stupid thing like this.

Its not about the music, its the stuff the music represents. All mainstream rap values is sex and money. And kids are drawn into. I recently read a story about an upperclass suburban school were the black students had on average 20% lower grades than white kids, even though all the kids were in the same economic bracket. The black kids parents brought in a (black) education analyst who studied the kids in the school for a year. He found that the black kids considered not adopting this gangsta made you "white" and therefore uncool. Any black student who got good grades was either shunned by their black friends or pressured into this culture.

Ok, but a lot of music is about sex and money...I've heard some incredibly foul songs that aren't rap at all.

When you really think about all any singers/bands care about is money, drugs, and women.Look at any rockband, you hear about as many if not more rockstars having drug addictions than rappers. Its just they don't usually sing about it.

You know, rock music also promotes promiscuity and drug abuse.

Not a fan of the rap genre myself, so all I have to say is meh.

I understand what you mean, but don't blame the dumb rappers out there who try to make that image but blame the stupid corporations and MTV who pay these people to make this image. Most these rappers you see acting gangsta are just actors who are being paid to make this affect happen. But don't blame the real hip-hop culture. There are just as many rappers out there rapping for a positive cause, but aren't signed a record deal or shown on MTV because of their postive attitude.

i think the only real problems in music is all the racism and stuff. things like raggae that support killing gay people, and now black metal has a sub-genre that is basically nazi-like. its peoples choices to listen to whatever music they want, but stuff like that is messed up

Most music is messed up these days. All you got is silly rap/party songs, emo/gothic, death metal, and a gazillion Britney Spears clones. For every Red Hot Chili Peppers, Audioslave, and Wolfmother there are 1000 of the genres I listed above.

Hip Hop doesn't suck. You should have directed this thread to commercial rap instead of rap in general. Hip Hop contains the most creative lyrics out of any genre of music, esp rock. Hopefully the decline in sales is a wake up call for those commerical rappers and hopefully they will go back to the real roots. But, I highly doubt that will happen.

Buddy rap/hip-hop doesn't have meaningful lyrics anymore, every other word is an f-bomb, some word degrading a woman, something about drugs, killing someone, or hatred torwards someone. Its just not good music.

Ignorance is bliss eh?

Well before Orlando comes in here, I'll post some good rap lyrics, just so you can see how wrong you guys are.

this one turns to shame and fame and what not.

you sound hollow, this upsets me.
you didn't always...
"you can tell a lot about a man from the sound of his music."
yours is hollow sounding,
frankly, you've become suckers.

this is a dissong, dissong absolute
because you can't respect me
because i can't respect you.

this is a quitter's anthem,
this is why you should quit,
because you've cheated and ate where you ****

all my good people you know who you are,
and all you lazy lawyers and hookers
oughta know damn well how something awful scars.

so...i rap with a passion and stock rap at a record store.
you...make me embarrassed for both, you fell on your sword.
(look out now)

shove that gun up your ass, shove that gun up your ass,
shove that gun up your ass. you're as good as dead.

wo'es me...my rotting tape collection be still my beating heart,
now i buy one new rap cd six months apart.

from underground to mainstream,
pioneers to fireplace rap,
this is the voice of our age, not the skin off your back.

come see me, i'll serve you, give you free music and step.
"it was nothing, i did it just to save our rep."

"walk into the fact"
"you're blind from the fire"
"turn a blind eye"
the lawyer and the hooker...

·masogany
·adultery
·homophobia
·thing tug
how far into the fire can you pour out blood (love).

I think someone here might be a racist and can't stand black people being in a position of powercool_baller

WTF are you talking about?

I'm not hating on rap, as I know that there is good rap out there, but the rap that the TC is talking about does not fitthat bill. What the TC is talking about is equivalent to a black man doing a minstrel show that is designed to make black people look like dumb mother****ers.

Seriously, we have this huge mainstream rap influx that promotes the same kind of **** that results in way too many black people living in the ****ing ghetto, and we're somehow supposed to think that one rapper doing a minstrel show is "giving power to the black people"?!

Man, **** that. I LIVE in the ghetto. I SEE women being treated like "ho's". I SEE my neighbor going to prison for "keeping it real". I SEE the smart black kids in my neighborhood getting teased and taunted by their peers for actually caring about school. Every ****ing day (well, maybe not EVERY day, but often) I see the local drug pushers trying to sell crack to the kids at school, and I see empty mindless runks walking down the street looking for something to steal so they can sell it at the pawn shop and buy another 40 oz of booze. People in my neighborhood care for nothing but drugs, and sex, and they're all either broke as hell, dying of AIDS, or hooked on crack. They can't hold jobs, they can barely ****ing read, they're just ghosts waiting to die.

And when I see rich ass rappers promoting the same kind of lifestyle that got the people in my ghetto in trouble, the LAST thing I think is that they're "giving power to the black people".

And as far as ghettos go, I don't even live in a BAD one.
