Hmm, let's see: the Old Testament is also referred to as the Torah. The Torah is the holy document of the Jewish people. Therefore, Jews wrote the Bible (oddly offensive sounding, not trying to go that way). And Christianity, to an extent, is essentially a sect of Judaism that accepts Jesus as their savior (other practices witheld).

Sooshy

God told a man to write what he says in a book. That's the bible. I don't know about all the mumbo jumbo you're babbling on about.

Obviously, logic won't touch you. The Bible was written by humans for several reasons, like moral guidance, satiation of the human ego, explaining the unknown (obsolete with scientific discoveries within the past 500 years), and many other reasons I could list.

No, but logic is, and those facts were derived using logic.

Here's some logic: Thing come from some place. Where did the universe come from? GOD (or some other being) had to make it or it wouldn't be here.

Movies are fake and the bible is real. Big difference, bud.

So I guess this is 100% fictitious.

The Bible isn't a documentary. :|

No, it's a fantasy novel.

The man who wrote the book was a liar then. No, wait, that's completely impossible, right? People don't lie. And people certainly don't lie when writing a book!

if it's a lie, don't you think God would have corrected it by now? He wouldn't just let us all go on believe the wrong things about him.

This thread, like most religious threads, fails. You cannot prove or disprove a religion. A religion is based on faith, and faith is something that you cannot prove. End of discussion.

You are clutching to the fact that there is some grand plan for our existance, we were created by the right conditions being present at a certain time, nothing more than that. Don't try to make yourself feel more important by saying that you had a creator, we are purely bundles of atoms.

The the dude comparing games to the bible: You're comparing something that has been around for a few decades to something--the bible--that has been around for a million years. Fail.

Where does it prove that the world is flat? How do you know it just isn't interpeted wrong? It wasn't written in English, you know.

Sooshy

Oh, so the bible is a million years old now?

It's as old as it was written

But that isn't even that old...:?

By that logic, racial equality would not have come into fruition. And weren't Christians once the minority? Remember that time in history when they were being killed by Romans? Remember that? Hell, its in that book you're trying to sell to us.

I don't understand why you guys are compaing entertainment (film, games, literature) with the bible. You're comparing things that were made in the past century or so with something that has been around for multiple centuries. There is a reason why The Bible has withstood the test of time.

You know what explains that?: We were lucky. The smarter monkey-ancestors survived long enough to breed, and passed their knowledge onto their children. Slowly, the monkey-ancestors became smarter, walked upright, and over hundreds of thousands of years, we became humans.

That's it? All you have is a picture of a Bible? And you expect someone who doesn't believe in God to take it and just read to find the answer?

This has to be the weakest 'proof thread' I have ever seen.

[QUOTE="Frattracide"]Interestingly enough, it also proves the world is flat.

*facepalm*

You are looking at it really wrong. The earth doesn't literally have corners, its referring to the cultural centers of humanity. ie, The English Empire had a stretched to the four corners of the earth.

Its not literally shaking the world foundations, that's just a figure of speech. For example, " The offensive use of nuclear weapons shook the foundations of the world." Its not literally shaking the world, its a major event or disaster.

Frattracide

Or maybe those passages are reflecting a commonly held belief that the earth was flat. I'm gonna go ahead and say that the authors of those passages literally thought the earth was flat considering it was the norm at the time..

Then your purposefully mistaking metaphors for fact in a vain search for evidence.

How many times do you need to be told that people have known for thousands of years how the Earth is shaped?

Yet the church maintained it was flat.

But the answers aren't there. There's no empirical evidence in that book and without physical evidence, you may as well be talking about another work of fiction. Seriously, the only thing that is going to confirm that God exists (and that the Biblical view of God is correct) is if God makes a tangible appearance and states that the Bible is correct.

No, but logic is, and those facts were derived using logic.

kruesader

Here's some logic: Thing come from some place. Where did the universe come from? GOD (or some other being) had to make it or it wouldn't be here.

You are clutching to the fact that there is some grand plan for our existance, we were created by the right conditions being present at a certain time, nothing more than that. Don't try to make yourself feel more important by saying that you had a creator, we are purely bundles of atoms.

Because believing that there is an omnipotent being that sets up rules for you to follow and is always infinitely better than you in every possible way is quite the ego boost.

[QUOTE="Sooshy"]That explains why we're the only beings in the world with cognitive though. Wait, nope. It doesn't explain that at all.SolidSnake35
Does it need to? O_o Besides, you don't even know that to be true.

Yeah I do. I don't see dogs are dolphins writing in blogs and making films. No, they sit there and eat and sleep.

I don't understand why you guys are compaing entertainment (film, games, literature) with the bible. You're comparing things that were made in the past century or so with something that has been around for multiple centuries. There is a reason why The Bible has withstood the test of time.
Sooshy

there's another book of sorts that withstood time.
