i wish our supreme court would grow a pair and step up and declare this unconstitutional. unfortunately, they wouldn't even dare to look at this.
how is it unconstitutional?i wish our supreme court would grow a pair and step up and declare this unconstitutional. unfortunately, they wouldn't even dare to look at this.

I don't know how he did it, but Obama manage to get healthcare pushed through the house. Senate will probably pass it too. There was a time I was worried about the future of healthcare reform, I thought it would fail again.
Bout freaking time. You would think a super majority in congress would speed things up a little bit.clubsammich91
Yeah, except a few Senate Democrats and Joe Libermann have expressed dissent with the party leadership in the Senate and like 70 Dems voted against it in the house. People say we need two parties, we already have three, the Republicans, Democrats, and the Blue Dogs. What we need to do is get rid of one.

The Supreme Court can't call something unconstitiutional unless it is a law. If you want to challenge the constituionality of the bill, wait for it to pass and then challenge itat a district court.
[QUOTE="lazzordude"]how is it unconstitutional? ummm......could it be because there is nothing in the constitution that would suggest that government has the power to run a health care program?i wish our supreme court would grow a pair and step up and declare this unconstitutional. unfortunately, they wouldn't even dare to look at this.

Somebody in the House had to grow a pair for this to even pass. Considering how many of our representatives are the insurance industry's *****. And explain why it's unconstitutional.i wish our supreme court would grow a pair and step up and declare this unconstitutional. unfortunately, they wouldn't even dare to look at this.

I think that would be four parties, Democrats, Blue Dog, Moderate Republicans, and Radical Republicans.

There's also nothing in the constiution that says they can run a post office service or a public school system, The constitution was meant to establish a basic framework for government and protect certain rights, not to ban the implementation of anything not directly created in it.

Moderate Republicans, a.k.a. soon-to-be-Blue Dogs. One Republican voted against party lines in the House, possibly one more will in the Senate. I don't know about the House Guy, but Olympia Snow is way closer to a Blue Dog than a Democrat, and the Republican Party has made it clear that dissenters are not very welcome. I don't know that they'd out Snow because doing so would probably cede the state to a Blue Dog, but just about every other moderate is getting pushed out of the Republican Party systematically.
The only part I'm oppossed to is the part that apparently says you must go get healthcare or you will be fined. But hey....Healthcare! I haven't been to the doctors in half a decade due to not being able to afford it.

They also passed universal minimum coverage so everyone can at least see a doctor occasionally and not just go to the emergency room when something goes horribly wrong, and there's a public option in the House plan so that works out well. There's also some exception to the mandate if you're making a miniscule income.

alright, so what i would like explained is how is healthcare commerce?sidenote: that is the single biggest flaw in the constitution, if only the framers defined what commerce specifically was.......
Why not just declare public education unconstitutional as well? Whether we like it or not, health care does not, by any means, violate rights. At least not as much as wire tapping phone calls.i wish our supreme court would grow a pair and step up and declare this unconstitutional. unfortunately, they wouldn't even dare to look at this.

that was completely irrelevant. if you want to get extremely technical, both public education and wire tapping phone calls are unconstitutional. thats the problem, why a written document that outlines the government rules if they don't follow them?

Yes because when the founders of this nation wrote the Constitiution the major debate was whether or not the Government could run the health care program.
um I have a question does it say you need to get that healthcare? Or does it simply say you need healthcare be it from the government or one that is already available? my (idiot) boss keeps saying that the government is going to force everybody to get government healthcare and when I tell her its called the public healthcare option because it's "optional" and that Obama is on record of saying that you can keep your current healthcare if you like it she just tells me that she doesnt trust a word the government says. I would really hate for her to be right. The only part I'm oppossed to is the part that apparently says you must go get healthcare or you will be fined. But hey....Healthcare! Anyways this could be good because I don't have health insurance right now (havent for about a year) and once the companies start getting competative with each other I will pick a good plan our for myself.
I haven't read in on anything at all. If all I gotta do is send in some form or go down to some place, whatever. If I have to, say....pay someone something or anything like that, I'm just gonna have to get fined. I don't have any cash.

I just find it hypocritical for people to have their arms up on public health care and education and at the same time, do not have a problem with wire tapping. My point is, while public education serves to create a stronger country and make the public more aware about their rights and allow them to question the government, wire tapping is a security measurement that is a serious breach of rights. My point is that while public education can be a violation of rights, it is also a necessity in developed countries that bring in far more benefits for the country not to be ignored. The same goes for health care, and I would argue not having a public option for health care is a human rights violation in itself.I haven't read in on anything at all. It looks like the fine is an additional income tax and if you fall within a certain category you can apply for a hardship waiver.

Though of course many won't fall in that certain category and yet still won't be able to afford the payment or fine. I have to worry about those who will be utterly screwed or ruined because they can barely pay the bills and one more bill will ruin them.

[QUOTE="bluezy"]Congratulations on potentially joining the rest of the industrialized world:PSerraph105*raises wine glass* here's to it Doesn't most of the other governments that regulate health care to this extent just have a single payer system and not a wonky multi-payer government rate insurance system that still uses the same old healthcare industry? I wouldn't mind them just getting a single payer health care system as much as this half-arsed popularity-grab bill.
