It gets hard here because you have two choices. The first is to create a contrived reason for stopping her (asking the time for instance) but they will quickly see through this and bail. Conversely you can be upfront on why you stopped her, they will think you are a try-hard dork (well, not always, but most of the time) and once again bail on you because once again the situation is contrived. The hardest part about talking to a girl and getting anywhere is there is almost a contradiction of expectations. On the one hand she expects you to take the initiative to approach (no complaints about that, someone has to do it)...but on the other hand she is weirded out that you took the approach and broke social protocol...ugh...
Women want things to 'happen naturally'. Thing is, as any man knows, there is no such thing as 'natural'. You have to make moves to go places. But the idea that you are 'making moves' is in and of itself considered a kind of perversion of social standards. For any women reading this, just realise some of the bizarre hoops that guys hav e to jump through to make things work. If I ever hear a girl tell her friends that 'we just met, and it just happened' I'll...well I'll silently think bad thoughts :P
I've been with the same woman for six years, and we're married now. I don't know what that means exactly in relation to your question. I guess I had to be good with "girls" to make it as far as I have. :D
I also generally don't have trouble talking to or otherwise interacting with women, unless they're ugly to the point of inducing a fit of involuntary gagging.
I am a fairly decent looking guy so I generally have no trouble at clubs and parties when it comes to girls. The booze mixed with the environment make it very easy to talk with and hook up with a girl. But, I am not so great with girls when it comes to outside of that environment. I can talk to girls, be funny, initiate the conversation and etc, I have no problem with that. I dont have a problem with keeping a conversation going and being funny. My issue is, I can ask a girl out if I am not drunk or in a club/party scene. I just, dont know get nervous and start over thinking things, like how it would be awkward in class if I asked her out and it did not work out or if she flat our ejected me. I dont mind getting rejected at a club, thats fine, who gives a ****, but getting rejected by someone in class to me is very different (as in I take it personally). This is really odd for me though because I have hooked up with a lot of girls, great looking ones too, but for some odd reason if booze is not involved, or if I am not at a party, I am atrocious when it comes to asking a girl out. I guess that is one of the reasons that I have been "single" for almost 3 years now (multiple partners, but I would never data someone who would sleep with me after only knowing me for a few hours at a club).
I'm a fun guy and I can talk to anyone without problems and. When it comes to asking them out I have to be drunk however since it gives me quite a confidence boost.

Honestly it is entirely dependant on the girl. I've had 3 steady gilrfirends so far, and each of them I found quite natural and simple to talk with, in fact the relationships themselves simply formed over time, it was very nice. Yet with my newest interest, I find that all the symptoms of a 'crush' arise. I lose general control over my diction and just generally make a fool out of myself lol.

I actually made an account for killzone 3 news and I just ended up staying and getting to know people :P. I mean i still have a life outside of GS like for example, last night I just went clubbing with a friend for his birthday funny enough it was like 50ish people.

I'm in the exact same situation as you are. After class everyone sits and study for like 10 hours so you never talk to anyone :(
