Find something that you enjoy and do it.
I enjoy exploring whatever parks and trails I find, so even if I feel down it always cheers me up.
Pfft you're so naive that you don't think that I've talked to psychiatrists before? Some of those meds were pure hell being on and did not help alleviate my depression at all. I'm not trying to be an ass man, but, come on. Really?leonadasz2
Yes, I'm naive. I gave a simple suggestion that is really the only good advice there is. This isnt the place to make big life decisions, and you clearly arent gonna find a magical cure to depression from some random person on here.
I never said get on meds. I said get help. As in counseling, hell, even a community group would probably give you some positive things in your life.

I didn't come in expecting a "magical cure". I realize this is a gaming forum, I was looking for suggests from other people in the same boat or who have been. I knew exactly what you meant, but when I talk to someone that inevitably leads to them suggesting one med or another. I believe last time it was celexa.stop being such a wuss and make something of ur life. JPOBSCall me a wuss when you've kicked heroin from a jail cell. (i'm off the drugs now btw)
*Exercising
*Drinking coffee (works for me, short term blood sugar boost)
*socialising with people (and not just forums)
*find an objective to work towards (examples: getting a short story published, making a viral video, getting that promotion, getting family, starting a small business, yada yada)
Yeah the socializing part is going to be hard for me... Namely because I didn't have many friends to start out with just like 6-10 close ones, and then i burned my bridges with those few when I was actively addicted to drugs and using. Everything else you said i'll take into consideration. I don't know that's a major part of my depression is i'm so alone because of all the bridges i've burned.*Exercising

I'm not really good at socialising myself:P
I'm using the fact my college has many clubs to try and find people with similar interests. It does not sound like your in college, but the find groups with similar interests still good advice. Since you seem to be post a drug addiction, there should be plenty of social groups related to that.
My cousin just getting over a drug addiction himself.
It's very hard to take interest or even "care" about doing something while depressed. Look at his comment on video games. He clearly enjoys video games, but just has no passion for it anymore. I can actualy relate to this part of depression, but I've not over come it yet and I feel it's severely putting my life on hold but I don't know what to do to get some passion about my life when everything I care about usually turns to **** and explodes and elaves me burned (/burned out emotionally).I agree with most of what has been said. Though I think you should find yourself a hobby, or something of interest. Even if at first you don't enjoy it, keep it up. Work for something so you can feel some self accomplishment. Most important is to stay active, do more with your time.

Well personally, I don't think getting on meds to deal with depression is the way to go. I feel it's a temporary stimulant to make you feel good. Drug companies come up with all sorts of drugs to deal with issues so they could make a quick buck. We all feel sad or depressed at one point in our lives. I am not feeling too good these days either but no way am I going to get on meds. My dad has a friend who every time he feels anxiety he takes a pill. I feel that's the wrong way to go because we all feel anxiety at one point in our lives. I remember in track and field when I used to compete in the 100 m for example, I would feel anxiety before a race, does that mean I am going to pop a pill to relieve me of that anxiety. Of course not because being nervous and anxious before a race is perfectly natural in my opinion, it's just that some of us experience it more than others. My dad's friend it seems has become completely dependant on his anxiety pills. This is by NO MEANS am I telling you to get off your meds. You should consult a doctor or other porofessionals before doing that. I am just giving you my two cents.
Usually computer games usually stimulates me because I am trying to reach an objective in a game; like trying to win a race or beat my friend's track record in Need For Speed Hot Pursuit. Since you don't find video games stimulating anymore I don't think this will work for you.
One thing, I think works is to keep yourself busy. One of my favorite late night talk show hosts named Art Bell became sad and depressed when his wife died. He dealt with that by keeping himself busy with work and other things, eventually, he had a mail-in-order bride from the Phillipines (I believe) and eventually had a daughter and now he seems to lead a happy life. I guess you could try finding a girl you like and doing things that you enjoy that will keep you busy until you get over your depression. Maybe try to set a goal or objective that you strive towards. It may be a long journey, but I wish you the best.
[QUOTE="berserker2389"]Thrash metal... wiifan001That's what I do. I just get myself from depressed to thrashed and pissed off, and I love being pissed off at the world.
What do you do if/when the world doesn't care about you being pissed at it?

Yeah I agree. Video games can be a good outlet because it takes us in an another world but I don't think it's for TC. I think he should do something outside of vidoe games, most definitely.

More thrash metal...My best advice would be don't blame yourself and don't overthink. I've always hated the term "move on" but the older I get the more sense it makes to me. Internalizing things and blaming yourself for past mistakes makes things a lot worse. The best thing to do is focus on the future as best you can even if at the moment it looks like the future is empty or pointless. Learn from the past but don't worry about what you could have done different. You can't change it now no matter how much you wish you could. Unfortunatley depression takes a while to get overno matter what you do, so looking for a miracle cure is not the path to take.
Some tips...
Listen to music. It can motivate you and even make you feel better when nothing else does the trick.
Try your very best to exercise. It will be very hard to make yourself do it at first but in the long run it will definitelygive you more energy and make you feel better about yourself
Put yourself out there but don't actively search for new friends. If it happens it happens, if it doesn't it doesn't. People tend to either try too hard or too little to make friends when/after they're depressed. Just go with the flow.
Find a hobby you're actually passionate about. Usually there's at least one thing that even if you're depressed you'll still find pleasure in (that isn't drugs or booze).
Don't rely on antidepressants. They only help a tiny bit and for many people they don't help at all.
Finding a new chick is not something to do now. It's always nice to feel like someone cares and having some sort of rebound after a break might help a little but you need to learn how to be happy by yourself. As the old phrase goes, you can not love another until you love yourself first.
As a nurse, allow me to say this. Get help, medication can help you feel better. Depression may not be your fault (despite what other say) you could have a chemical imbalance that is out of your control. The best thing to do is to talk to your dr, and be very open about how you feel. Suicidal ideation(if any) motivation, overall health, and grooming can all give insight into your diagnosis. I wish you the best, i recently went in for anxiety, and chronic low self esttem. I was put on anti depressants and it has changed my life very much.
Edit
Exercise can improve mood, but at the point of if he truely has been depressed for three years, he is now major depressive disorder, and should seeking proffesional help. Though, exercise is always encouraged!
I'd like to get on some benzos because I have anxiety too. But that probably won't happen given my history. As a nurse, allow me to say this. Get help, medication can help you feel better. I was put in selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. Its very likely your anixiety is linked to your depression. Treating the depression could potientally stop the anxiety.I don't know your past medical history, I didn't look through the majority of the thread.
@ head of games - I know its a tongue and cheek response, but a response like that puts blame on the person, like they have done something wrong. Which only makes things worse.

Bascially I've been blackmarked in hospitals because of my opiate addiction in the past.[QUOTE="Ravirr"][QUOTE="leonadasz2"] I'd like to get on some benzos because I have anxiety too. But that probably won't happen given my history.leonadasz2

Thing is though, depression robs the enjoyment and interest out of anything. It's a vicious circle. What is supposed to help getout of depression is the same thing depression affects.Find something that you enjoy and do it.

Personally I'd say God is the best option...If I'm depressed, I just tend to lay in my bed or something.TAMKFanExactly and that's what i'm trying to STOP doing.
