Isn't getting divorced undermining marriage?
Some bring up the flippant nature of the current gen and rushing into marriage and not treating it with the respect it deserves. Divorce would be a result from that. The reasons for divorce would be the issue for some. Such reasons leading to a high rate.
Basically saying that the antigay marriage folk need not be only focused on that aspect of marriage and that they also mention divorce amongst other stuff. So this avenue of thought doesn't seem as productive as directly addressing why gay marriage should be a thing.
Now women are doomed.
Heterosexual men are going to marry each other, and date women casually for sex.
Conservatives/Republicans/Political Terrorists use the same arguments against gay marriage that old racists used against interracial marriage. It's just not worth listening to the "other side" when it comes to gay marriage.
inb4 some dumbfvck believes in being tolerant to intolerance and that all viewpoints are equal or something just as braindead
While a valid complaint its still sort of a deflection.
Not sure how it can be valid when it's a completely untrue scare tactic.
The fact that divorce is undermining marriage as defined/envisioned by most people who oppose gay marriage is an untrue scare tactic?
At worse you can call it an opinion.

Ah, I thought you were saying that the argument that gay marriage undermines marriage is valid, not divorce.
i think it's more of a religious thing honestly. Because most republicans i know support gay marriage.
While I hold a lot of conservative political views, I have no problem with gay marriage because it does not affect me or anyone I care about in any way whatsoever.

What if your son was gay?
Gay marriage leads to pedophilia, bestiality and people wanting to marry coffee tables and high-end graphics cards. Jesus said. Bible says. Burning bush. Debate ends here.
@Aljosa23: but he is your son
so
he still votes republican. not sure how i feel about my hypothetical son supporting cronies and terrorists tbh
About two years ago I had to attend an all hands briefing for the repeal of DADT.
They had every Marine in the entire squadron there and the COC all had to give us this huge shpeel about how gay people are people too and we're not allowed to mock or degrade them. Then they had a QA session where individual Marines could ask questions, as if it was difficult to understand.
I've never seen more senseless pandering in my entire life, and 80% of my job is politics/dealing with higher ups/officers/other bullshit(Military Police). These were grown men and women, in their 20s-30s, asking another grown man in his 40s-50s questions like:
"How can someone just be gay? I don't like dick."
"I don't think I should have to work with them because they might try to **** me. Can I leave the military?"
"I hate f*ggots. If I have to room with a f*ggot, can I just kill him?"
"What if he tries to suck my dick? Can I tell him stop?"
"How does this affect MY religion?"
"What if they act gay? Can we tell them to stop being gay?"
Even after the brief and everyone was walking out I could hear shit like, "No f*ggot better come near me. I'll fucking kill that queer. Try to tell me who I can work with."

but divorce is against their religion too, yet it's more common among conservatives.

So the entire left is free of morons and hypocrites and damn near perfect I suppose?
Anyway, I don't have a problem with gays or gay marriage. It's their life and they should live it however they see fit.

That's not what I said but okay.
I can at least tolerate morons on the left because they aren't the ones who are anti-progress, anti-women, anti-gay, and so on and so on. Conservatism as an ideology has never done one positive thing for mankind and has only existed simply to halt progress.

Nice straw man.
The main reason I have seen for certain conservatives being against gay marriage is because it is against their religion. Since religion isn't supposed to mold laws (although it does anyway in many cases) some of them may try to find other reasons to say no to it. That doesn't mean it will be that way forever.

We didn't have a bunch of people asking questions like that but we did have people ask how LGB troops could legally have sex since the UCMJ prohibits sodomy. They ended up letting us know that Lawrence v. Texas invalidated being punished for consensual sodomy but you could still be punished for sodomy in conjunction with a sexual assault or fraternization.
Another issue we had was after sitting through the briefing about accepting openly LGB troops we had to sit through another briefing about processing LGB prior service applicants who were discharged under DADT and wanted to reenlist (I was a recruiter at the time). That, along with dealing with applicants who were in a same-sex marriage (DOMA was still in effect at the time) made our day that much longer.
During the second briefing somebody later on bought up the issue with transgendered men and women attempting to enlist and it was bought up that the DADT repeal only covered homosexuals and bisexuals, while being transgendered is considered a medical disqualification and is still not allowed.

Nice straw man.
I wasn't attacking the left in defense of the right.
Conservatives have a higher divorce rate than liberals? Somehow surprising. Personally I have conflicting real life observations on the subject so I can't decide which philosophy would have a higher divorce rate among its adherents.

That's not a source, that's someone's opinion. There's no actual data in the commentary.

I never said you did? Maybe you should read the posts you respond to.
@Master_Live: That so many people are still obsessing over it. I used to be against it, now I'm not, because I actually thought about it. There's no reason for it to be illegal. the only thing holding it back is that some people don't understand the concept of separation of church and state.
This is coming from someone with mildly Christian beliefs.
The 'Sanctity' of marriage is just an excuse. Just another way to delay the inevitable with their bigotry. When you get down to it, only assholes oppose same sex marriage.

I thought you were implying that I was using a straw man argument to attack his statement.
Its okay most people don't understand the conservative opposition towards equality for gay people. That's probably why they are losing on that issue.
"Social conservatives claim that gay marriage will undermine the structure of marriage"
Not all of us. Stereotyping FTL.
You're a social conservative?
Damn I guess that explains why you're a dumbass
