Just a question. It seems so many people here say capitalism is this evil beastly thing, and yet they have hobbies directly related to that.

Is there just a lot of naive kids here, or do you not play video games or partake in any hobby in which you rely on consuming?

Because they have half baked, naive ideas about communism? I really don't see too many here anyway.

People fail to realize that you do not have to be on one extreme or the other. The best society probably has aspects of capitalism and socialism, right? Just because someone believes that some programs should not be run by corporations does not automatically make them a communist, no matter what the conservative radio hosts say.

How long have you been here? OT is all about being non-conformist and overrating everything good. Funny thing is, when everyone begins to non-conform to the same things they are in actuality; conforming. Kinda of an inevitable paradox.

I wouldn't listen to most of these people who "love" communism. Few of these people have an Economics degree (if at all) and none of these people would ever put their opinions into practice by actually MOVING to a communist state. They're prolly sitting there right now in their place sipping some cool, refreshing free-market beverage while you get worked up about this.

That's what I keep trying to tell them. Everyone who calls Clinton a communist is not even aware that on a global (or even just European) scale, she is pretty moderate, as are most Democrats.

Please don't generalize. There are loads of smart, well informed Americans that can give you an intelligent view on politiccs, philosophy, and more. They aren't here, they're busy doing important things.

Some of her programs are programs European countries have had for years and it hasn't led to communism here. You're overreacting and making yourself sound ignorant.

Well most European countries are very left of center, even if they're not overtly socialist. Her policies are undeniably a move toward socialism.

America isnt Europe. different place, different society. America is meant for freedom from government, which is why we had prosperity while europe basically decayed. The only reason europe is doing good now is because they all joined together. Eventually europe will probably run into more problems unless they keep adapting to americas way like they have been.

of course I do. what makes you think I dont? Do you think thats a quick way out of the argument here? First of all we are not talking about WHAT communism is. we are talking why so many people on this forum advocate it blatantly.

communism is a form of economics that advocates the destruction of all private property and given to the public. all means of production is controlled by the public. its "classless" and everything like i said earlier is commonly owned. So I dont expect some other smarty pants to try and get out of this by doing the "LOLZ DUZ U NO?? DUZ U" thing because honestly, im starting to think YOU people dont know what it is.

What I do know is that you have a huge superiority complex. And isn't saying that something of an oxymoron since almost all white Americans are descended from Europeans who had European values? You may be the only super power, but you still have just as many problems and issues as anywhere else in the world. After the bumbling of the Bush administration most non-Americans don't take you guys seriously anymore.

*Sigh* Yet another person who views issues in such forced dichotomies. The world is not split into "this" or "that". Being anti-capitalist, at least the modern day out of control economic policies much of the worlds nations have in place, does not make me a communist. If anything I dislike that even more.

Heh. It does not have to be realistic to be likable. And why the emphasis on the nature of this website? Many among us would quite prefer if intellectual, private property became public, mind you.

it has nothing to do with the fact that most americans are of european descent. I dont even know why you said that.

Yeah they had european values, such as democracy. In america the europeans were allowed to actually LIVE a real life. In europe the governments have a long history of being simply put, a bunch of jerkbrainz.

I dont care what nonamericans say. Honestly, since I live in america why would I? Its not like they vote in my country. Why would you care what an American thinks of lets say Germany? Americans have the gift of being able to be entirely self contained. Which is a good thing, because the rest of the worlds governments are in my eyes, worse than ours.

On the Americans being of European descent...thanks for sending the best and brightest to get the party started!!!! My families left Europe cause they were starving and persecuted. They weren't ever, or even today, proud of being of European descent. My Irish side is more proud of the fact that our ancestors came here and made something of themselves using the American way.

Countries around the world never really took us seriously btw. It just seems that people have used Bush as a "valid" excuse.

That's what I keep trying to tell them. Everyone who calls Clinton a communist is not even aware that on a global (or even just European) scale, she is pretty moderate, as are most Democrats.

people who call her that, call her that because they believe her programs will LEAD to communism. at least thats how i see it.

America isnt Europe. different place, different society. America is meant for freedom from government, which is why we had prosperity while europe basically decayed. The only reason europe is doing good now is because they all joined together. Eventually europe will probably run into more problems unless they keep adapting to americas way like they have been.

You do realise that is one of the only reasons America does so well dont you?

the countries of europe are still considered their own countries for the most part.

the states are actually part of our country. its not one of the only reasons we do good. A lot of how we do is how competitive we are. This is a capitalist trait.

you, my friend area a true american. to me it seems that a lot of irish people tend to "get" america pretty well.

H8sMikeMoore
What is a true American but a person who is born or naturalized into the United States? All other criteria are made socially, and are therefore poor criteria for determining whether or not someone is a true American. Take George H. W. Bush's opinion that atheists are not Americans for example; this is something that a person has pulled out of their ass long after the Founding Fathers, Paine, and Locke established our true philosophy about Americanism and is therefore invalid. Of course, "true American" statements are simple politiking...

No. You're merging national identity with political position.

If that were true then there would be only one political position in the United States.

if you think i lost credibility then you clearly dont know how to comprehend.

Its pretty obvious, actually... its so obvious that im surprised im even telling you this that im talking about through out history

Americas housing market is to blame, do you think america is gonna fall apart or something? Once the housing market clears up well be ahead of the world again. and to this day were still the ONLY super power. Thanks to our way of life, not the european way.

Is that why when the Irish and many other immigrants came they were discriminated and treated unfairly? At the start it wasn't a better life, it was more of the same.

I'm a communist simply because I believe a governments first duty is the welfare of its citizenry, rather than the monetary and labor exploitation thereof. Even Adam Smith wrote that free markets tend toward monopolies, unfair wages, and political oligarchy in 'Wealth of Nations'.

It is a defining characteristic of America that our political views are multifarious, and intended to be that way.
