how can it be sad, when you read his post, hes asking for it. this may be a joke thread but if you feel that way then you deserve whats coming. sad is an athletes heart stopping in the heat of competition. not some lard getting a heart attack while eating a tub of ice cream while laying down watching tv.

...how?

Well it all depends on how fat he is but if he's severely obese, he will have heart disease, diabetes, and other health issues that will drive up health-care bills.

Bigger people such as athletes are fine, even people that are mildly overweight are fine. It's severely obese people that are affecting society in a negative way.

Technically the mentally ill and the handicap are burdens on society as well. Oddly enough people usually don't treat them poorly just because of who they are.

Most mentally ill and handicap people don't choose to ruin their bodies like most morbidly obese people who eat processed foods for every meal.......

Being fat is not something to be proud of....that's like saying you are proud you broke your finger because you decided to hit it with a hammer.Agent-Zero

The irony here is that no one points out the pride as being ridiculous, when the person happens to be proud of being healthy. Or thin. But as soon as someone says that they are proud to be fat, everyone jumps all over them about it.

Question: how are "being proud to be fat" and "being proud to be healthy" not equally silly?

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle takes hard work and dilligence, where being fat and lazy takes nothing but disregard and disrespect for your own body.

Well, violent mentally ill people should be eliminated as well but that's a different subject. The point is the severely obese people made a choice to be that way, do you really think it's fair for people to have to suffer higher costs for one person being lazy and selfish.

If you have strived to become healthy, taking pride in that struggle and thus your health is something that is perfectly sensible. It is after all an achievement, since it is something that can take a great amount of effort in some cases. We acknowledge thte fact that it can take a lot of effort to become healthy or to maintain a healthy body. Becoming or being fat is no worthy achievement, it's just silly.

1) Sure as hell doesn't take hard work for everyone. It comes awfully easy for a lot of people, yet they're still proud about it.

2) Just because something's hard to do doesn't mean you should be proud about it. Especially if accomplishing it doesn't make you any happier and doesn't make you a better person.

Tell me what is inherently "better" about being healthy. It's only "better" if you're becoming healthy in order to get something out of it.

If you're not getting out of it what you want, then the effort is POINTLESS, rather than commendable. When has it EVER been considered a positive trait to make things harder on yourself than they have to be?

Agree with first line. Some people I know don't work out or exercise at all but have 6 packs and look to be in great shape. I've been fighting my weight for year and even after working out like a mad man I'm still considered obesed. Now, a lot of people think I'm 150Lbs lighter then I'm actually am but it sucks because I've been tryinging for over a year to lose weight (I want to fight MMA) but Ive only dropped 15 pounds dispite the Boxing, Cardio traning and Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu I'm still in the 300+ side.

It is inherently better for your place of work that you're in a healthy shape. Less sick days. It is inherently better for your children that you're healthy. You might live longer because of it, and I guess not only yourself but your potential partner and kids would appreciate that statistical notion. "If you're not getting out of it what you want, then the effort is POINTLESS". It might seem pointless to you, but that put aside; what if you are getting what you want out of it? ..

Wow. That is an incredibly black and white view you got of the world there.

1. Genetics.

2. If you think dropping 200 pounds is easy, you're kidding yourself

3. Some people are overweight because they cannot afford healthy foods which are basically always around 4 times the cost of fatty foods.

4. Genetics.

5. It's unlikely they all made some concious choice. Thats a very narrow way of thinking

6. I shouldn't have to pay higher costs on various things due to smokers, people who do dangerous jobs, people who go to the emergency room when they don't need to, people who drive humvee's, etc.

7. You actually support the euthanization of groups of people? Seriously, dude? Seriously?

Really, this idea that anyone who is overweight is just fat and lazy is sad at best and pathetic at worst.

My parents where fat, My relatives are fat and I'm fat.

I love eating Mcdonalds, red meat, chocolate and all the sweet things n Life. '

I hate healthy things like Vegetables, walking, and excersice. I'm fat and proud. True I have not see my thing in years and it's hard for me to cut my toe nails but everything else is fine.

I'd probably be proud I lived my life the way I wanted instead of by societies preconceived arbitrary notion of what I must live by, how I must look, and how I must feel.

But hey, fat people are just subhumans, right, who cares?

I've known people who didn't give their kids the proper attention because they were too obsessive about their health. I've known people who slacked off on some of their work in order to hit the gym.

The thing is that if staying healthy is so hard, then it sort of requires something to be given up in order to obtain good health. Whether or not it's better depends on what the person is losing. And I've seen people willing to become worse people in order to get in better shape.

I'm proud to not be fat anymore and have some self esteem. There is a time in life when you just need to grow up and realise that over eating and not exercising is destructive. I came to that realization and I'm better off because of it.

1. The genetics part are very rare

2. The people that are trying to lose weight, well I applaud them and eventually they won't have a negative effect on society, I'm talking about the severely obese people that refuses to lose weight and are "proud of it".

3. Not if they exercise to combat those fatty foods as well as eat in moderation.

4. Look at #1

5. I don't quite understand this, it's not like they just ate one hamburger and gained 250 pounds overnight. It required them to be lazy and gluttonous.

6. I agree with you but unlike some of those examples we don't penalize people that are severely overweight and eating at McDonald's every night.

7. When have I ever said that I wanted to euthanzie the violent mentally ill. I'm talking about the death penalty after they are convicted of these violent acts.

I'm really unsure why people care if others are overweight, and also why they feel it is alright to put such people down and treat them as if they were less than human. Essentially being bigots.

I'd probably be proud I lived my life the way I wanted instead of by societies preconceived arbitrary notion of what I must live by, how I must look, and how I must feel.

But hey, fat people are just subhumans, right, who cares?

Yes, fatties are free birds opposing the agenda of the man.

I am fat, and I am the opposite of proud.

not an hour goes bythat I wish I werea healthy weight.

Fortunately, it is the only thing I am ashamed of.

Unfortunately, it is the only thing strangers really judge me on. "Oh he is fat, he has problems". Fat people are the new n-word; its ok to discriminate against us.

I don't think anyone cares about how they look or how they must live. They do care when the severely obese people start to affect everybody else in a negative way, it's not fair to everybody else to have to suffer.

It's one thing if it's genetic or some kind of defect or something, but I've known people who were massive, just massive and I often wondered how much did they have to eat everyday just to maintain that weight. It's not like these people came from naturally big families they just had the worst eating habits in the world. I think once you get above a certain weight and it looks unhealthy then you need to address the problem rather than just upping the size of your clothes.

I haven't seen anyone suffering because of over weight people. Please give some examples.
