Yes it is. The skill it takes to hit a 400 ft homerun is almost unparalleled. I remember they had a segment once with some NFL players going to try and hit a ball in Fenway park, and none of them hit it farther than mid outfield, and these are men more athletic than your average person.

lx_theo
I don't see how that is some how "impressive".. Of course a guy playing baseball all of his life will be better at baseball then say a professional football player.. The same can be said for vice versa if a baseball professional player started playing football..

I'd admit hitting a professionally thrown baseball is one of the more difficult things in sports. But even in baseball they tend to not be very good at it (look at the batting averages...). Ultimately, hitting a baseball is really the ONLY athletic part of baseball, and stands no contest with the skills required to be great in sports like hockey, soccer, football (skill positons at least)...

That's absurd. You don't think there's athleticism involved with running 50 yards to catch a fly ball and turning to throw a man out 350 feet away all in one motion? You don't think there is skill involved with throwing a 97 MPH fastball? You don't think it might be difficult to make split second decisions about whether to swing or not, when to steal, where to go with the ball on a fielding play?

Have you ever played golf?

mini-golf. and saw golf once. It's extremely boring and stupid.

So you've never played it and only watched it once and you know it's boring and stupid? :?

I'll watch women's fast pitch softball once in a while.

MLB is simply the lol tier of sports.

Tradition is the only reason why it's still popular.

:o You watch womens college softball once in a while too? We have something in common!

Well, I'm just saying that baseball's premiere play is harder to achieve than let's say basketball's. Numerous people, from other athletes, to non professionals of any sport at all, are capable of dunking the ball and hitting a three point shot.

I like baseball. Maybe its just nostalgia talking though, haven't watched it in years, ever since the Braves dream team broke up. Back when they had Greg Maddux, Tom Glavin, John Smoltz, Kevin Millwood, Andruw Jones (when he was good), Chipper Jones, Rafael Frucal, Javy Lopez, Brian Jordan, etc.

Yeah. Try hitting a 100MPH fastball by Justin Verlander. If you didn't sh!t your pants by seeing it go that fast by you inches away, you certainly didn't have the reaction time to swing the bat. It takes 1/2 of a second for that pitch to reach the plate.

EDIT: .412 seconds to be exact.

And numerous people, from other athelets to non-professionals of any sport at all, are capable of hitting a fastball or shagging a fly ball. Being good and consistant at these things is another matter. Michael Jordan's foray into baseball produced solidly mediocre results. On the flipside I doubt you could put Albert Pujols on a basketball court and get greatness out of him.

Something tells me you've never played baseball with people who are actually good at it.

It's much harder than you think it is, and the highest skilled team I have ever played against was a college team.

Box lacrosse is awesome. I played for years, travelled a lot, great off-season game for rugby players. Field lacrosse however sucks.

Baseball is the most boring sport of them all to me, I'm sure it takes some kind of skill...but really, when your top "athletes" look like:

And your games take 4-5 hours due to crotch scratching...there is a problem.

Both sports are fun to play, but my god is soccer boring to watch. I find Baseball fun to play and watch.

But, to each there own, I guess. Differences in culture. The only cool thing about soccer that isn't playing it is that the fans make the worst sports fans over here look like kittens.

Awesome, you found one fat player. That must mean that all of the hundreds of Major League ballplayers are fat as well. I guess all rugby players look like this:

It can be largely boring. Then again most sports where they spend half the game standing around (i.e. American Football) are boring to an extent. There's too much break in the action.

Most of the top athletes in baseball are not fat. The MVPs last season were Ryan Braun and Justin Verlander. Not even fat. Other great players off the top of my head are Matt Kemp, Adrian Gonzales, Jacoby Ellsbury, Robinson Cano, Dustin Pedroia, Derek Jeter, Jose Bautista and Albert Pujols. They ain't fat either. Games can go up to 4 hours, but those don't happen as often as you think. Usually, Sox vs Yankees games go that long.

Yup. And I've never seen a game run 5 hours (although I know it was happened). Most games run around 2 1/2 - 3 hours.

No but it is outdated.

No instant replay

No banning of tackling the catcher when going to home despite so much evidence of concusions and risk.

Teams being able to buy their way to a title while lesser teams are given the scraps

4 teams in the AL West, 6 Teams in the NL Central

So many flaws but it is still fun for me to watch with the thrill of anything can happen

I would say basketball is easily the worst. Boring as **** to watch, the scores are almost meaningless with how many points are made in a game, and it takes the least amount of skill of any sport. I mean seriously, 75% of being a basketball star is just being freakishly tall so you can reach to stupid net...

Not as much as the every play athletic of every other major sport. Split second decisions are there in every sport. Baseball has less of them as well, and there's usually one thing to consider at any one given time. Also, I tend not to include pitchers in the equation in how difficult baseball is. There role is so different, and requires much more skill, than all the other positions. Then again, they aren't expected to have nearly as high skill in hitting the ball... so its could very well even out.

No, just no. Money does not buy championships. Were that the case the Cubs would actually be competitive, rather than being professional sports' biggest joke. And look at the Cardinals - they're a relatively low spending, small market club that regularly fields competitive teams.

Congrats? Doesn't still disprove the fact that teams with rich rich owners can buy the best players.

And the Yankees and Red Sox are the prime examples of this.

And the Cubs spend nearly as much as them and have not a thing to show for it (althought they're spending considerably less this year). The belief of buying championships is flat out false. Hell, the Red Sox, for that matter, are currently sucking like nobody's business. Last place in their division. And the Yankees are floating around mid-place. The Phillies (second in salary to the Yankees this year) are pining away in last place in their division. As are the Angels (who plunked down huge money this year). Meanwhile the modestly salaried Orioles have the best record in MLB. There is so much more to the game than simply having the most expensive players.

HARD caps work perfectly like in the NFL. The NBA has a soft cap which is why it doesn't work.

baseball is a blast to play but watching it is comparable to watching paint dry, it's just awful. plus the steroid scandals destroyed any real dignity the game had left. it's a joke now.

Nah.

I used to think that baseball would be too boring too watch, but then I started watching the Tigers games a little bit. The tension is ASTOUNDING at time. I remember some of those 9th innings when we had Valverde up trying to close out a game in the playoffs. God that would be so much pressure to take.

I would say basketball is easily the worst. Boring as **** to watch, the scores are almost meaningless with how many points are made in a game, and it takes the least amount of skill of any sport. I mean seriously, 75% of being a basketball star is just being freakishly tall so you can reach to stupid net...

seriously how can anyone watch it not live? it's just people standing around 80 percent of the time and doesn't take much skill to be a professional, "hey look at me, i can hit a ball with a stick!" or "hey look at me, i can catch a ball hit by a stick!" or "hey look at me, i know how to run!"ZumaJones07

This is one of the dumbest statements I have ever read on here. Hitting a baseball is one of the hardest things to do in all sports. It takes incredible amounts of talent and skill to be a professional baseball player on the MLB level.

My beef with hockey is it's just too random for me. To much back and forth and blind slap-shots hoping for a score but usually to no avail.

It's the best sport in the world but my team, the Pittsburgh Pirates, are the worst in the world.

Yea if you don't like the sport that's fine and all, but I thought he had a gripe with the league. If he didn't, my mistake.

I don't like it. But I played it for 5 years when I was young because I could pitch. Then I quit in bronco because I was afraid of the 60+ mph pitchers and played ice hockey instead...

Answer my question first.

Irrelevant.

Nope, it's entirely relevant. Were you a professional or amateur? If professional how much were you being paid during your one season?

He's a troll. Just ignore him.
