I've only been moderated twice in the 4-5 years I've been going here, including my old account which has about 4x the posts as my new one here.
I don't see a problem with the amount of moderation here. I prefer having civil, intelligent conversations where people talk as they would at the dinner table.

have you ever tried that in SW? its about as easy as carrying an elephant up 40 flights of stairs.

What?
What he said. Look at a lot of the other forums for "teens and kids", you'll find thousands of ignorant little kids running around. Heck, I remember once I posted on a forum for "teenagers" and reasoned with someone about why marijuana should not be legal, then I got flamed by some 13 year olds with "cool" pictures of themselves in their sigs saying I was a homosexual for not liking pot. The mods on GS protect logic and weed out people that simply want to blatantly bash others.I've only been moderated twice in the 4-5 years I've been going here, including my old account which has about 4x the posts as my new one here.

I prefer to stay on a forum where my mother doesn't get insulted every time I post.
With that said, they could ease up a bit I think.

Usually when people begin to resort to swearing, insults, and racist/sexist/whatever-ist comments the intelligence factor goes down and it just turns into a crapfest.

ok. THAT makes sense. what i dont understand is why a one word post THAT ANSWERS A QUESTION THAT I WAS ASKED, which also required NO additional explanation, is still concidered "disruptive posting"
its really not the mods fault. its the fact that GS is going by barney rules. if your not hugging a kitten you get moddedPSBox3SixWi
It's funny how ironic it is, though. You could easily find much more offensive content in the screenshot sections of about half of the M-rated games on this website, and probably even more in the gameplay videos that are hosted here, but those aren't censored. But by some warped logic, reading a curse word on a forum is a higher priority when it comes to censorship.
There are only a select few things that irritate me, and those are limited to direct contradictions wthin the ToU. Beyond that, I don't have a problem following the rules because I agreed to them when I signed up.famicommander

I don't know. I ventured off to System Wars once a long time ago. I had to go to therapy for a week. it was bruital! The inhumanity!
Disruptive posting basically means that whatever it was didn't contribute to discussion in any way. In this particular case, you responded to a detailed post and just said "no", offering no explanation or constructive dialog whatsoever. Questions aren't just polls; they're an attempt to create discussion, and one-word answers don't really achieve that. On one hand, no, the post didn't really disrupt that much. But on the other hand, the more detailed and contributory posts there are, the better discussion is, so we encourage everyone to contribute to discussion if they choose to post. System Wars is especially bad in terms of floundering discussions, so things tend to be more strict there as a result.
Really, everything is done in the interest of the users and to encourage a more healthy environment with constructive discussions. It's not the moderators' intention to scare people or to lord over them or censor them or anything like that.

It's not like it would be impossible to simply give the moderators discretion on when swearing is or isn't appropriate. It's one thing when you're using it to be funny or get a point across, and it's just another when you're being an idiot and spamming. I don't see how swearing is "unintelligent".

in system wars? thats like dividing by zero, fyi. why bother me if so many other crap gets to slip by.

System Wars is alright provided you know the rules and don't take it seriously. I think most of those people just like to argue within the silly fanboy framework.
I lurk SW all the time.
For the lulz.
It's funny when people take it seriously.

which i guess proves thats there are no, "healthy environment(s) with constructive discussions" as stated by a mod. therefore how does SW even exist?

Look, I understand your frustration, and I really do agree that attempting to generate constructive discussions in System Wars is basically a futile endeavor... but things would be even worse if we didn't do anything. And yes, there probably are worse things that go unnoticed, but that really can't be helped - we're not omniscient deities; we simply take action on what we can see and try our best to make that be as much as possible. Was your post terribly major? No, not at all, which is why it was just a warning.
The bottom line is that we just want people to try their best to have real discussions while on the forums. If we always left one-word answers alone that don't create any discussion, there would be a lot more of them, and the quality of discussion on the forums would be worse off because of it.
it seems like you can get modded on a whim for the slightest thing. it seems a bit ridiculous. example.... i was asked a question. i said, "no" and got modded. was my "no" on a thread with a few PAGES of discussion really bothering anyone? whatcha think? PSBox3SixWi
And yet you wanted to lock my thread because you found it offensive
Oh teh irony!

and was it? nope. point proven? i think so.regardless of what you, or the mods think, that post could be found offensive because yes, i AM italian, and YES it is stereotypical. i put in a valid mod request, AND inform them directly. yet nothing happens. HMMMMMMMMMMMM

I havent had any trouble not getting modded so far, but if I were to not contain my quirky humour it would be the other way around :P
[QUOTE="IZoMBiEI"]yeah this sites kinda ridiculous, just about anything can get modded here.GabuEx
I think people would be very surprised at the sheer number of posts that don't get moderated. :P
Indeed. Heck the default settings on the tools are NO ACTION, and for good reason.
