[QUOTE="killtactics"][QUOTE="ct1257860"]well i can see on game spot that mostly everybody likes rock and rap is kinda just left out in the ghettos. I think that rap will last 3 years and then we will still have rap but it will be small and fade. Dirty south ruined it!AARONRULZ1

No, it won't. Popularity may go down, but if rap was gonna die, it would've died a long time ago. Now mainstream rap might die, and I hope it does, most mainstream sucks. Hip hop was better before it was all over MTV and was commercialized as hell. It went from being the music of the streets to a commercilized marketing gimmick.

That being said, I still love rap, and my album buying has not gone down. Underground rap is the best out there, and I bought alot of albums last year that were amazing.

And for the idiot saying rappers are "street trash" you're wrong. Tupac went to Baltimore School of Arts, and Kidz In The Hall went to Penn State, one of the best university's in the USA. And you can't forget Kanye West, who also went to college. Nice try saying rappers are  retards when alot have a better education than you.

O rly? We got a comedian here  2Pac is 100x smarter than you.

At least i ain't worthless street trash!

Wow dude. Your racist as hell. Go away.

I ain't racist,just because i hate rap DOESN'T make me racist.

'worthless street trash then' ? Ok, so you're not racist then. you sure as hell like to stereotype though.

that and the fact that tupac was extremely influential to many people, and to this day his words stoke the fires of reformation....hes far from worthless street trash, you should go learn about him before you start running your mouth

Kweli is still one of the most famous rappers overall out there though, most people are blinded by one hit wonders that get played constantly on the radio and cant see what rap really is

Eminem sucks:| Have you actually heard his music lately? He's making trash music with G-Unit. He is one of the people destroying hip hop. Nas and Jay-Z are the ones keepin' hip hop truly alive, along with the great underground artists.

No, his CD's are garbage. He makes stupid ass songs like "Smack That" :| That ish is NOT keeping hip hop alive at all, he isn't helping rap at all. He brought G-Unitto the world. Smack that is Akon ft. Eminem i do believe and his songs are him speaking his mind and not caring about what people think about what he has to say. He spits out the stories from his life and his viewooints on the world and does it in the most upfront way possible. Thats rap.

But he still sucks:| Encore was a garbage album, all his G-Unit stuff he's helped make is garbage, and all the verses he's spit lately are garbage. And it doesn't help when he's collabing with garbage artists like Akon. You think Em is great? Look up the lyrics to "Fack" or "Just Lose It". Two songs from his albums that are complete and utter garbage in every sense of the word. Em is overrated because he's white, as well. The most overrated rapper of ALL TIME.

Look up the lyrics to his serious songs and dont generalize his rap to the more lighthearted crap that you are using as examples. Im not saying hes the greatest ever, but he is a great wether you think hes overrated because he is white or not. I could say the same thing about Donovan Mc being overrated as a qb because he is black but even though some of his hype comes from the fact that he is a black qb doesnt make that statement true. Deep down he is a great player, just like if you look past all the color with em you will see someone who is a great rapper

I don't dislike Em cus he's white, I dislike him cus I dislike him, period. I've never been a fan of his music, ever, and I doubt I ever will be. But it IS fact that if Eminem were black, he would NOT be gettin' all the credit he gets right now. I see people placin' him above people like Rakim, Nas, Kool G Rap, LEGENDARY rappers who he can't even come close to. That pisses me off.

Plus, I never found Em to be great, period. I fail to see how someone that has never produced a cl.assic album, while producing a few mediocre and one awful album, is a great rapper. Overrated.

Rap as I know it sounds extremely different from what it used to. So I guess it might branch into different genres or even produce a new type of genre. However, rap is becoming a very strong tool for communicating social, cultural and political arguments in countries like Africa (and even the Mongolian rap scene is growing :P ).

If Em wasn't white he wouldn't be getting all this credit, plain and simple.

Overrated.

i wasnt tryin to say you didnt like him cause hes white i was just adressing what you said about him being overrated, dont worry im not sensitive about race issues lol. His defining album is the Marshall Mathers LP, and it is considered to be a classic by many. His music, like any other kind of music is something you have to be able to relate to in order to get it. If you dont relate to the lyrics, then you just will not care. Its all opinion, but he has reached a lot of people that otherwise wouldnt ever have given rap a chance, thus becoming one of the greats. i dont think he places over he rappers you have listed either but i wouldnt ever say that he sucks just because im not a big fan of his music personally. He was and is influential to hip hop.

[QUOTE="serbsta69"]since 2pac's legacy was for someone to continue the word of rap, the only person that cold be is eminem... i dont think so, i hope it doesnt die, but theres no hopelonghorn7

Eminem sucks:| Have you actually heard his music lately? He's making trash music with G-Unit. He is one of the people destroying hip hop. Nas and Jay-Z are the ones keepin' hip hop truly alive, along with the great underground artists.

lmao at Em keeping rap alive:lol:

i dont agree with the statement about him being the only person keeping rap alive but he is definately one of the big contributors, if you only listen to his cds and not the ones hes on just to promote d12 or gunit he still has a lot to say and he still does it in his own interesting way...

OK, I get what your tryin' to say:) Maybe that's why I never liked Em, I never could relate to any of his lyrics.

As for the uber-piece-of-crap rap (G-Unit, dirty south, some other guys whose names are too retarded for me to type), there isn't many things I pray for to die. Gangsta and crap rap, however, is the exception. I think (and hope) that it'll definitely die out in a matter of years (early 2010s to be precise). As for the authentic rap that doesn't advocate materialism, doesn't preach the thug-life, doesn't degrade women, and doesn't make an entire race look like the world's disgrace, that form or rap will just seep to (or stay in) the underground.

well i can see on game spot that mostly everybody likes rock and rap is kinda just left out in the ghettos. I think that rap will last 3 years and then we will still have rap but it will be small and fade. Dirty south ruined it!ct1257860

Everything goes in cycles. IN OUT IN OUT IN OUT. So eventually it will go out of style and all of the hipsters will be all over the new FAD.

see thats another point or discussion you can have i think that hip hop is dying too just like what Nas says hiphop is dead. Rap started hi hop and if you notice when rap starts fading so will hip hop because they are featured in a lot of the singers songs. Also people will get tired of hip hop. You noticed that Beyonce is starting to fad out of hip hop. True hip hop will last longer but we have no hip hop singers it will be the after mass of rap and stay another year or two and fade out as a new style of music will form. But i wonder what else type of music we can have we thought of everything?

I realize, but something is always in style and the hipsters are all over it. There's people who like blue grass, but you rarely hear it because it's not the FAD.

I've been waiting for a genre shift in mainstream culture for ages (Rap will probably get better, when it gets less popular... )
