[QUOTE="MagnumPI"] [QUOTE="Orlando_Magic"][QUOTE="MagnumPI"][QUOTE="Orlando_Magic"][QUOTE="longhorn7"][QUOTE="MagnumPI"] [QUOTE="familyguy77"][QUOTE="MagnumPI"][QUOTE="Orlando_Magic"][QUOTE="MagnumPI"] Rap was the big deal back when I was in middle school, which was eleven years ago. By high school nobody was into rap other than the the gangster wannabes. I didn't see many back then.
It's probably just an age thing. Certain things are cool during particular adolescent stages, because televion and radio tell kids what to like. Kids generalize and need attention so they find something to associate themselves with. It's tribal.
Nothing ever dies. Popluarity declines until it's in style agian. It depends on the people you hang around or interact with aswell. If they like rap you will be exposed to it so it seems to be coming out of the wood work. Anything that directly effects your life seems overwhelming, but that doesn't mean it's aglobal epidemic.
I hear rap when I hit downtown. I live uptown so I never hear it around here.

I love rap and I'm in college and I'm not a gangsta wannabe. Gasp! By the way, you know quite a few Gamespot Admins are rap fans too, right? ;) Rap fans come in all sorts, you surely don't think Jeff Gerstmann is a gangsta wannabe too huh...
Naturally, the things you are exposed to as a child you might grow a foundness of. It's nostalgia. It's a reminder of childhood.
I only like good rap, which is near impossible to find other thn that it's usually just some genric or lame beats with some prison yard trash talk or ghetto jive. Do you think I want to be associated with that? You know what they say.. "If you have a synthesiser you don't need talent."
I'm tempted to get into rap, just make some loot. Check this.
Uh.. UH.. UH.. check it before I wreck it. Don't make me break out my pump chump. Don't fron't, don't think I won't bump a chump with da pump.
Check it now, you stoled by my jalopy full of crack rocks and that made me cry cause it not be kool. But I stoled your garden ho and your witches afro.
Check it, you popped a cap in me with your Gaston. It went bop bop bop and I said "OW!" when I felt the hate from your Glock. But I got you back when I put a grenade in your ghetto blaster.
I know you're just jealous because I have spinners, a stingy brim, a rhinestone glove and fairy does shoots from my foot when I sissy kick.
That's my first hit. What do you think?

Wow, that was stupid. There's tons of good rap out there, Little Brother, Oukast, nas, J-Dilla, Murs, Redman, Wu-Tang, GZA, Biggie, Kool G Rap, Big Daddy Kane, etc. I've been listening to rap since I was about 6 years old, and I still love it. Not because it brings back childhood memories, because I legitamately like rap. Why can't you get that through you head? Some people like rap, not because it's a fad, not because it brings back memories, because they like it. And your comment about synthesizer's is hilarious:lol: You act as if you can make a half good hip hop instrumental. I 100% guarantee you can't make an instrumental as good as J-Dilla or DJ Quik.
Most of the guys you mention have terrible music. I play the six string and compared to a guitar syntetics are child's play. Do you think you're everyone in the world? Music goes in FADs. So you developed a taste for a particular music. That happens. Rap is like candy corn. Some people like it. You are someone, not everyone. You are a single person that represents the small percentage of people that actually like it. You are one person, not billions.
Most of the artists you mention have lackluster material.
Fine, you like rap, we get it, you're a proud of your adolescent tastes. Do you think kids realize they are degenerates or simple minded?
Most rap is full of bad grammar and phrases that just don't make any sense. A gross misuse of words. I like Wierd Al's White and Nerdy because it's clever. The only good rap is clever rap.
shows how much you know about your instrument.....or in fact muscal instruments in general. I play guitar as well i own two six string acoustics one is a taylor one is alvarez, a 12 string ovation, an jackson warrior, a fender strat, and zakk wylde epiphone les paul. But even tough the instrument is complicated, one shouild never be dense enough to say it is any better than any other instrument talent wise. Do you even realize that a synthesizer is mot commonly an instumrnt that consists of a keyboard as well as a few electronic components? Take it even further with musical theory to how closely related guitar is to piano and other keyboarded instruments, your logic is not only uneducated but just downright laughable. Great post.
NO, while playing a full score on a piano requires talent using a keyboard to bounce back and fourth between bump, boop, bomp bap is not tough. It's easy. I have one. They only use a few keys for a beat.
Playing a piano is nothing like bumping a rap on a keyboard. The piano requires a very dynamic manipulation of the keys and pedals. While beating out a rap with a keyboard merely requires a few keys and a preset sound to each key. You can just jump back and forth between 3 keys and record sections at a time then play it back.
It's an old expression. That was the sales pitch for the original Synthesisers. "Now you can make the music without the talent" I'm just referencing.

You know there are rappers who play drums, guitar, piano, and even compose musical scores for orchestras too, right...
People do a lot of things, because they have many talents. But just because they can play a guitar or drums, or compose other music doesn't mean I should feel their rap is good. That would be like arguing that everything Pepsi makes is good.
you're jumping around on your argument now, at first they werent talented at all but now that you are faced with the face that they are talented you say that it isnt the point.... The formation of words is key. I didn't say they don't have talent. The music they produce isn't a representation of talent. So that suggests they don't have any talent. If you're capable of better why wing it sesame street sytle? It's half-assed.
I'll just say fine whatever, because I really don't care to argue with you over a trivial matter of absolutely no importance any longer. Contrary to what you may believe I am not exposing anything and you're not hiding anything. Anything you can think or I can think anyone else can think aswell.
I'm too gangster for rap. I'd pop a cap in you for a french-fry.
This a flame bait thread. Naturally rap fan boys are gonna fly off the handle because you're crappin on their cool. And won't shut up until someone says FINE RAP IS GREAT!! NOW STFU!! I can say whatever you want, but it doesn't mean I actually agree with it or you. Do you need the illusion? Is that what you want, Appeasement?
