I thought fornication is just sex... no matter if it's within a marriage or not.reggie186well you thought wrong.

Well seeing as I don't have that much of an understanding of religion and such I don't know. I find the idea of sin to be stupid based on what I know. You murder it's a sin. If you have premarital sex is a sin. If you sin you go to hell. Can you really compare killing someone to having sex with someone you're not married to? Now if I'm wrong in this thinking, someone please tell me.MrPenguinKingActually you can only go to Hell if you commit mortal sin (serious sin) and if you sincerely repent of that sin and try not to commit it again then God will mercifully save you from Hell.
acording to the bible, yes, but acording to the bible a magical being who judges everyone lives in the sky, gays should be killed, women are below men, and if you don't do what the "magical being" says you burn , and are tortured for all of eternity. so as far as i'm concerned, there is no such thing as "sin"dante_123456actually God and Magic are two different things, women are created with equal dignity and where does the Bible say that Gays should be killed. And as for God living in the sky, God is omnipresent He is everywhere.
Indeed it is. You should probably Google Humanae Vitae and Theology of the Body as they can explain better than I. First off a tell tale sign of sin is that bad things normally spring from it as we Know premarital sex does create bad things such as STDs, unwanted pregnancies (which is not bad in itself) that can lead to abortion or other problems. Also Divine (Eternal) Law and Natural Law both suggest that human sex has two purposes a unitive purpose and a procreative purpose. The Unitive purpose is to bring about mental, physical, emotional and spiritual unity between the two spouses. the Procreative purpose is the creation of new life. These purposes can really only be fulfilled in marriage, to take away these purposes is to pervert sex into lust.
this poll shows that most people do not see fornication as sinful. i expected this, the majority is wrong. People voted that way for a couple reasons. 1. By age 19 8 out of 10 males and 7 out of 10 females will have fornicated (this doesn't make it okay) guilty people often try to say that what they did was okay, so this way they don't see themselves as guilty. 2. the media and society have steered many people in the wrong direction via lies. 3. people reject the truth when they don't like it and make up their own "truths" (which are not really truths).

Well, at least you'll probably get to go to Purgatory instead of Hell. It's not your fault you were raised by heathens :D
lol meh mabey i should just make a deal with god so that he reincarnates me :D i wouldnt mind doing life all over again. Virtual video games= AwsomeSo you Admit that the evil one wants people to have sex before marriage. therefore you must also mean that God wants people to wait until marriage. I am a little worried about you. if you are a member of the Satanical church then you must leave it. do as the catechumens do: face the west and denounce Satan, then turn face the east and proclaim your allegiance to Christ. Its only a sin if you believe in sins. But hey if you are in the Satanical Church then it is actually a commandment.

Actually, the satanical church doesn't believe in Satan in itself...Even better... The satanic church says that god and satan are both inventions of mankind.
That's the good part about satanism.
The bad part about satanists is that they still believe in magic

The things you cite above could just as easily occur in a sexual relationship between two married people.

STDs if neither of them had sex before?
the poll seems to suggest that the majority of people do not have the patience and discipline to wait until marriage. People's impatience, lack of understanding, and lack of discipline may lead them to fornicate.whipassmt
....or they simply don't believe it is a sin. So they do not feel the need to wait, as they find it pointless. Not due to any lack of patience or discipline, but, you know, differing beliefs.
I for one do not believe in sin and it's a good thing I don't, up until not very long ago it wasn't even legal for my spouse and I to marry in this state. My spouse of course also doesn't believe sex before marriage is a sin. So we had no trouble.

So of course your beliefs out of the countless other beliefs that existed in history are the one true set of beliefs. And the act of doing exactly what living beings are suppose to do before a manmade ceremony that many people across the world aren't even aware exists is a sin that can result in burning for eternity?
I mean,I respect otherbeliefs and all, for sure. This one in particular I just find silly. It's not a "lack of understanding." These people know your beliefs, they're aware many believe them, however, they do not think they're true, so they and myself included do not pay attention to them.
I understand what your beliefs say, loud and clear. I just think it's a tad silly to call it a sin. Perhaps no sex before marriage as a means to wait and see if the relationship is about more than sex? To wait until you are both mature enough and financially capable of raising a child? Absolutely. To wait for fear that you may burn for eternity? If people want to believe it, go ahead, but I think it's a bit silly, if I'm to be honest.
I'm doing a lot of research on the topic and I want to hear other opinions. At first I thought the bible never really said anything against premarital sex, but then I found I Corinthians 6:9 and found it to say fornicators (fornication is sex outside of marriage) will not inherit heaven. Thoughts?krazyorangeGreat just what I needed to know, now I'm doomed. Thanks for the info genius.

It's a sin in certain religions, but to feel it is a sin, you must be religious. I don't think sexual promiscuity is very safe, but there isn't any objective reason to prevent two mature, consenting partners from engaging in the act. pianist
Nope no reason at all to prevent two mature consenting, birth control practicing, NOT drunk, NOT on drugs at the time, ADULTS(at least eighteen) from engaging in the act.
Is it a sin according to the Christian teaching? ... Yes
Do I believe it is a sin? No ... But then I don't believe in the concept of sin at all. I don't need the fear of eternal damnation in order to live with morals and ethics. I live by my own morals and ethics because I have an undrstanding of what is right and wrong without needing religion to tell me.
Do I believe sex outside marriage is wrong? No ... Marriage is just a social construct. I like the idea of marriage and would like to get married in the future. But it is still a man made idea and nothing more, there is nothing sacred about it. I also don't have a problem with casual sex, in fact it can be quite enjoyable and as long as both (or even all three ;)) participants treat it as such and not something more, I don't see why anyone should have a problem with it. I do think when you are in a serious relationship however monogamy is important for the most part however. Though I don't have a problem with people who are in 'open relationships', it is their choice.
I do not have any issue with people who choose not to have sex until marriage, however I do have a problem with people who impose their own morals or beliefs on others and judge those who choose to live differently. Just because you are a girl who enjoys sex doesn't make you a slut and just because you are a guy who enjoys sex doesn't make you a bastard or a bad person. As long as people are not harming others, or imposing on others' rights, then people should have the right do whatever they like.
Kid-Icarus-
Having sex before marriage is fine. But personally I believe anyone that sleeps around with multiple partners no matter how "careful" they are, is a slut, guy or girl.
The only reason it's more acceptable for guys to do it is because they openly and happily admit they're sluts. Girls often would have you thinking they're pristine princesses even though they're sleeping around as much as a drunk sailor.
So you sleep around IMO you're a slut, even if you're choosy about your multiple partners and are doing it simply because you like sex, you're still a slut. You have sex before marriage, with your boyfriend/girlfriend that's fine, no biggie.

It is a sin, if you are Catholic. If you aren't then I really don't know. See this is why I think sinning is a load of crap. It changes from church to church. It makes so sense.
I believe if you accept Jesus into your heart before you die, and I mean truely accpet him, you will go to heaven. That and be a good person. Or if you do anything wrong, know you are doing wrong and be sorry. Don't need strict rules to get into heaven. That was just BS made up to govern people.

Same thing here, but I consider myself a good person, which makes a difference.
And no, it's not a sin, not in my eyes at least, I mean, what if the night of the wedding it's time to 'prove' your merchandise and OH SURPRISE! WHAT'S THAT? what would happen then? lolol
I don't believe in sin.Yeah. Some things are wrong, some things are right, some things are neutral. Sex is usually neutral. I mean, I don't think that having ceremony about a certain action affects its morality.
MrGeezer
Depends on what your religious beliefs are but if people did wait until married before having sex "maybe" STD's and aids and unwanted pregnancies and abortions and such wouldn't be so common place. Then again I guess they could just use protection during sex and accompish the same thing.rudyroundheadWell that and asking people to stop having sex does not work.
