[QUOTE="xscrapzx"][ Really? Are you serious? It is federal celebrated holiday. Meaning the United States of America views it as such. No one is forcing anything on anyone, it is a day that this country celebrates every year and has for a very very long time. Its more of a tradition than a religion day if anything. So really you have no idea what you are talking about.thunderf00tYes, I am serious. Yes, someone is forcing something on me. They are forcing their hijacked version of a pagan holiday on me, and everyone else who shops at a retailer that they force into using the phrase Merry Christmas. No one is holding a gun to your head the last time I checked. So where ever you are getting your information from you are dead wrong. No one said you had to celebrate or shop at all. Thats your own choice. No one is forcing anything on you.
I'm athiest/agnostic (you can debate it yourselves), but even I think it;s ridiculous when stores/public outlets are forced, more or elss, to call it holidays, just so they don't offend non-christians. This is happening in Australia too. FACE IT. Christians make up a large part of the population. If you're offended by living in a Christian country, then move somewhere else.

Couldn't agree more. It's christmas get a grip.
Christians like to say "Merry Christmas". Non-Christians like to say "Happy holidays". I like to say "Shut the **** up and open your present I paid half my salary for".

Most people I know these days associate Christmas with Jingle Bells, over-indulgence and the coca-cola created image of red-coated Santa rather than its Christian/Pagan origins. Irrelevant of religion, it would be a shame to repackage it as merely a holiday and loose the essence of what is a great way to close off the year.
 I laugh in the face of the people who say, "Bu bu teh Christians r pushing thar believez on uz like alwais!"
The reason Christians are boycotting these stores is because they are retaliating to theover-sensitive babies, whose ears apparantly bleed when they hear the words "Merry Christmas" uttered, who wanted to be more politically correct and pushed for this "Happy Holidays" bs in the first place. Why change what isn't broken? These are the same people that push for "God" to be taken out of the pledge of allegiance and off the dollar, but applaud like apes when they see people protesting the Nativity scene in front of a bank...truly disgusting. Tell me how much percent of gifts are purchased for holidays other than Christmas during this time of year. Oh, and don't give me the, "but wat about teh shopperz that r offended that r just looking 4 good deals that dont celebrate a religion!?" Those people are truly the bottom of the barrel. This is our holiday, please let us appreciate it for a while before you start putting your big elitist noses in our faces again.
i say Merry Christmas to all the kids in my catholic school even if there is some non catholic. well there fault there in a catholic school.
outside i say happy holidays just to keep it safe
Kwanza is not even a real holiday. I don't know a single person who celebrates it. General_YotoSure it is.. It is a week long celebration of African culture and heritage.. It makes just as much sense as Christmas which was trying to replace the pagen holiday.. Infact much of the holiday's practices are pagen in nature..

[QUOTE="MistressMinako"]I don't see why people even argue about the Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays thing. There is actually a few holidays going on around Christmas, or in the same month at least. Like Kwanzaa. There's also Hanukkah. Christmas is not the only holiday in December. :? Well, not in the states, not sure if those two holidays are celebrated worldwide.Hanzo175
Agreed. That's why I usually say Happy Holidays.
i usually say merry christmas but i really do give a **** about which ones better....i mean, come on! why DO people ever argue about the merry christmas/happy holidays thing?:question::question:

I say Happy Holidays coz not everyone in the world are Christians.Lopur94i say merry christmas because over 90% of people in my country celebrate it (78 percent christianity + 16 percent atheist/agnostic yes, the majority of atheists/agnostics celebrate christmas) and the next highest percentage is 1.7
i dont mind them saying happy holidays most of the time i just hate when non-christians get offended if someone says merry christmas what really grinds my gears is when people started to try to rename christmas trees "holiday trees"
im athiest but i celebrate christmas. its always been merry christmas but you can't sue over that:P:lol:
This is a discussion about stores having their Happy Holiday signs as opposed to Merry Christmas signs to sell more stock to more customers. I really have no idea why you're all going on and on about how it should be named christmas etc... etc... No one is trying to change the name of Christmas ot something else, no one is trying to make you change what you call it. I really have no idea what you're all going on about.
I'm Muslim and I really don't mind people saying "Merry Christmas." So I don't see what anyone has to complain about it, because for some reason I just love that time of year, even though I really have no part in it.
Shouldn't they boycott the ones who abuse their sacred day to increase profit exponentially? And its Merry Christmas not because I care about Christians or their beliefs but rather because Hanukkah and Quanza are pretty lame.snowman6251Hanakuh has 12 days of gifts does it not? Seems far better than Christmas's measly 1 gift day.
Hanakuh has 12 days of gifts does it not? Seems far better than Christmas's measly 1 gift day. Its 12 days of Christmas. 8 days of Hanukkah. And this about sums up my Jewish friends stance on the holiday.[QUOTE="snowman6251"]Shouldn't they boycott the ones who abuse their sacred day to increase profit exponentially? I know a lot of Jews. Trust me. Its not that great. They usually get one real present and the other 7 would be the equivalent of a "stocking stuffer" type gift. Some of them even celebrate Christmas cause Hanukkah is so lame in comparison.alright then it's 8 days of presents where as christmas only gets 1 day of presents.

Celebrating christmas as a jew sounds like blashemy at its finest. Either way the only thing sort of bugs me is why people decided to take christ out of christmans. The word Xmas is stupid.

Yeah because for each day of Hannukah the average Jewish child will get the equivalent of what the average Christian child will get on one day of Christmas....

It doesn't but consequently the holiday is also less interesting and fun. And Christmas really isn't a religious Holiday anymore since its been so commercialized. I know I never thought "thanks Jesus" at any point in my life during Christmas, only "I HOPE I GET THE RED POWER RANGER OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG". The holiday has virtually no ties to religion anymore, at least ones that anyone takes seriously, minus of course the super radical religious nuts.[QUOTE="snowman6251"][QUOTE="BumFluff122"]

Nice insult. Good job. Keep it up.As I stated. Christmas has become commericalized. If Hannaukah was as commercialized children would be getting as much, and sometimes more presents than they got at Christmas. Perhaps you should read the entire post rather than completely desatroying the thread with thrown insults.
Neither greeting really bothers me. I am happy with either. But then, I dont have a 5 foot metal rod up a certain part of anatomy - which shall not be mentioned.
One of my old teachers won't buy anything from a store that says happy holidays instead of merry christmas, and gets angry if anyone tells him happy holidays instead of merry christmas. He's a little bit crazy though. If a store is going to call it the holidays instead of christmas what is the big deal? And getting angry over someone telling you happy holidays is even more ridiculous, they are just trying to be nice

The problem is that over 95% of people celebrate Christmas and these same people represent the majority of the customers the stores get. So it doesn't make sense to try to turn Christmas into some kind of generic winter holiday with the "happy holidays" theme.

I insulted you with a picture from "icanhazcheeseburger"? Just a tad sensitive, no? Sorry about that.
Don't throw around "ifs" because "ifs" aren't facts. I'll re-iterate because it seems you may have missed what I was trying to say; even if, like you stated, Hannukah was as commercialized as Christmas, the average Jewish child would NOT get the same amount of gifts each day that the average Christian child would get on Christmas day. It's just simple logic.
And Christmas really isn't a religious Holiday anymore since its been so commercialized. Religious indivudals see it as a celebration of their messiahs birth. How many nativity scenes do you see walking at the mall? How many times do you have carollers going door to door singing songs about virgin births and a manger? Having carollers sing to you when you don't even believe in Christ, you believe in something completely different, and then soem of them expectign something in return for their singing is very annoying. Non-religious people see it as a commercialized produyct, christians see it as a celebration of their messiahs birth, those of other religions wonder WTF their religious celebrations can't be as glamorized as the Christian ones.
