Meh. Â I find him to be sort of douchy.

they just hatin'People say Kanye is a douche like it has everything to do with his output of work
supa_badman
What constitutes a "musical genius?"Â
pressing buttons and moving sliders in a studio is NOT that hard and I don't know how rapping makes you a genius.
Quaker-w00ts
Oh, how I agree with you!
I agree with the producer part. He's a douche though, only spending 18 days so far this year with his baby mama. For shame.
People say Kanye is a douche like it has everything to do with his output of work
supa_badman
nah, i said he is a douche because he is.
nothing to do with his work output.
He really is. Â But unfortunately his arrogant personality tends to overshadow it. Â When it's all said and done he'll be regarded as one of the best producers ever. Â
This board is mainly filled with people(white teenagers) who only appreciate Rock so I'm not even going to bother reading through the thread

People don't understand that arrogance and hip hop go hand in hand, its funny to hear people say he's a douche but he's really just a confident idgaf type of person
[QUOTE="konvikt_17"]which is why it makes perfect sense to mention it a thread about how good of a musician/producer he isnah, i said he is a douche because he is.

this is why i respect him as a person and more as an artist. if you don't love yourself and what you create more than anything, then what's the point? you're just a sap.Uhg, no. He is terrible person who uses a computer to create some decent beats and steal other people's music. That is not my definition of a musical genius.
I'll be honest and say I don't really give him much of a chance because from what I have seen of him he's a douchebag. It's funny when I saw your thread my first thought was, man that guys a douche. Then I read it and about 50 people said the same thing with the same exact word I was thinking. To each his own, you think he's a musical genius, I think he's what's wrong with people now so I stay well away from him. As for being married to the skank Kim Kardashian, wow that should make quite a baby. Douche with god complex marries skank with godess comples, both beg for the spotlight so they can show the world exactly what not to be like and viola a baby to raise...mmmmhmmmm sounds like a heaping ton of win to me.
Are people who think he is some amazing producer just not familiar with alot of music? There is WAY better production out there. God, there is an entire genre (dubstep) filled with people who absolutely **** on Kanye's producing. Add to that his laughably bad lyrics and rapping and you are just left with really underwhelming music.
Good examples of great production:
Zedd's Dead-You and I
Skrillex-Cinema
Nero-Doomsday (my current ringtone thanks to that AMAZING Borderlands 2 trailer that featured this song!)
Â
That is off the top of my head without me digging into classic stuff from other bands like Nine Inch Nails.

Yeah it's like when people hate on athletes for being extremely confident in their abilities... They don't realize you have to be like that if you want to stand a chance in the game.
He used to be a good artist as far as his 1st two albums go. Now he's a creative producer / feminine rapper.

But at the same time, some arrogant athletes are great while others are not. And some are not so arrogant. Miguel Cabrera won the Triple Crown and MVP last year and didnt care about any of it. But really now. What has Kanye West done that sets him apart from a million other rappers? You mention athletes but, 60 years from now, will Kayne West be remembered in a way like Mickey Mantle? How about The Beatles? And how about Black Artists living and dead who's legends and influence continue? Jimi Hendrix? Prince? Bob Marley? WTF makes Kayne West so special? What constitutes a "musical genius?"Â

There's far more to production than pressing buttons and moving sliders. You have to know what all of those buttons and sliders do, and how to make them work with each other to layer a piece of music into something that's cohesive, harmonious, and fluid. And that is most certainly not an easy thing to do. Also, rapping can get very complex, and it does take a very smart person to put together a creative rhyme scheme, with a great flow, using a diverse vocabulary.Â
That being said, Kanye West is still far from the upper echelons of both rappers and producers. Absolutely everything he does has been done before, and better, by countless others, including people I have personally met and/or worked with. A "musical genius" he most certainly is not.Â
[QUOTE="UniversalBread"][QUOTE="Murderstyle75"]Just like Justin Beiber and Nicki Minaj, Kayne West performs fad music that appeals mostly to teenagers and young/dumb females. Its fad music and nothing more. The jackass has even done music with Beiber.Murderstyle75Kanye has never done music with Bieber, he has said via Twitter that he wanted to make Bieber cool. I don't think his music is fad music, check out his earlier works. They certainly haven't aged at all/gone out of style. I'd call Luda's collabs with pop artist fad music.
He's an asshole but there's no denying his music is excellent and he's one of the greatest producers in music, even if hip hop isn't your thing. UniversalBread
Hahahahahahahahahaha. Yes there is. And yes, hip hop totally is my thing. Mostly classic hip hop, not a whole lot of recent stuff. But yeah, even if you're super into hip hop, there certainly is room to deny that his music is excellent and/or that he's one of the "greatest producers in music". Because it's not, and neither is he.

What objective qualities would dictate excellent music and great production? Taste in music is certainly subjective, but how can you argue that Kanye (objectively) isn't one of the greatest?[QUOTE="the_bi99man"][QUOTE="UniversalBread"]He's an asshole but there's no denying his music is excellent and he's one of the greatest producers in music, even if hip hop isn't your thing. Maybe I'm biased because I live in Georgia and most of the rap that gets radio play here is typically either pop rap (Ludacris rapping in the background of a Taio Cruz or Justin Bieber song) or dirty trap shit like Flocka, Trinidad James, Rich Kidz, Roscoe Dash or Ca$h Out. Young Money artist are in genre of their own but don't sound at all like Kanye.Hahahahahahahahahaha. Yes there is. And yes, hip hop totally is my thing. But there's a difference between a real artist and glamorized karaoke. A lot of people can perform. It takes a lot more to write though and that's what makes an artists music so special.Murderstyle75What defines a real artist? Michael Jackson, for example, didn't write a lot of his songs, but he's certainly a real artist as well as a great performer
I can't predict the future and neither can you. I think he'll go down as a legend, he's released a lot of great music that sold very well and was critically acclaimed. That's really all that matters, everything else is a matter of taste and hating popular things just for the sake of it isn't at all uncommon. He's a household name and I think he'll be around for a long time releasing quality content. And really now. Do you think that people will remember Kayne West, 20 and 30 years from now? I have heard so many of these acts come and go since the late 80's. I really don't think he is any different.
