I found it amusing how many people have been over-rating Phelps. The man has been doing the Olympic grind since he was around 15 years old. Frankly, he seems to not have it in him anymore. From a biological perspective, he could kick butt into his 40s, but the mind is a much bigger problem, and can't go as long. Never mind that in previous venues, he has lost quite a few time to Lochte. His downfall could be seen miles away. But it seems so many didn't see the writing on the wall, and are surprised that Phelps is faltering. Still, he has a few good races left in him, I just don't unreasonably expect gold.

Anywho, I can't wait for the running events to start. I especially look forward to seeing Bernard Lagat in the 5000, Galen Rupp in the 10000, and Nick Symmonds in the 800. The marathon will be exciting, but I doubt that Meb or Ryan Hall will get a medal. August can't come soon enough, as that is when the games truly begin.

I was disappointed to see Jordyn Weiber not make the All-Around. That's not the outcome she should have recieved: the 2 competitors per nation rule is whack, and only sets up competitors to compete against their own teammates. They need to drop that rule for 2016.

I don't know if anyone here watches fencing, but I just watched the most incredible semifinal bout between Heidemann and Shin. Two double touches and 1 single touch in the last second of extra time lol.

The two epeeists went into extra time, the korean has priority. There was one second left and in that one second there were two double touches and one final single touch by the German. Of course, it's the human timekeeper's lag as it's quite impossible to land those 3 touches in 1 second. Korean coach filed for an appeal after they declared the german winner.

LMAO Spain is so bad in OLYMPICsoccer. Honduras shat on them lawl

killa4lyfe

Fixed (...since they are the reigning world champions and just defended their European championship.)

Even though it's the U-23 team, this is kind of disappointing :(

yeah, give graham hunter's barca book a read, pep, xavi and messi all say how much they enjoyed and learnt from the olympics so they must be disappointed, its a good team too

as for NBCs coverage, ive seen a list of what their 24 advert breaks cut out of the opening ceremony, still cant get my head around why they didnt do a time delay and then edit the parade, the cutting out of the 7/7 victim tribute is piss poor IMO

over here the BBC stuff is probably as good as it can get, havent checked out the online stuff which is meant to be equally briliant but the red button and sky channels stuff really is superb, shame some sports have 3 commentators whilst others have none but thats nit picking

i think my only complaint so far (other than the bloody japs "he fell off the horse, but he did it with style") is the decision to drop the scores from the boxing, doesnt make sense to me

Indeed...after such an exciting and awesome individual foil competition, it's shocking and embarrassing that without any protocol that nobody in charge was able to offer up any kind of common sense solution like...I dunno...resetting the clock to 1 second and going at it again? So you're all just fine with shrugging your shoulders over an obvious equipment failure on your part and just crushing the dreams of the obvious winner? Yay you judges.

I'm disappointed in the US mens gymnastics team. But Great Britain winning their first medal in mens team gymnastics in 100 years was pretty cool. And poor Ukraine.

I don't think that anyone would be happy with fencing again because the original bout should've already ended with a winner, and both fencers would claim that they had won. Neither fencers are at fault and no matter what the result is, there would be complaints. I do think that Shin deserved to win, but the main problem is that they decided not to stop the bout and try to solve the timing issue before Heidemann scored her single touch. After awarding Heidemann the point on two different occasions, to change that decision would be extremely difficult. With that said, I do feel bad for Shin and the timing system should definitely be changed in some way

The men's canoeing final was amazing, definitely the unexpected gem of this olypmics. I felt bad for the Slovenian guy, he missed two of the gates and each gate he missed added 50 seconds to his time, which is basically the death button.

This happened...but in short in a battle for the gold medal round the So. Korean girl was ahead by a touch with 1 second left on the clock, the clock stuck which allowed her German opponent to register multiple touches gaining her the win. The So. Koreans protested which for some odd reason failed as I feel they should have just gone again or at least applied the second to the actions they have taped. But what made it even more painful was due to a unique bylaw the distraught and confused So. Korean girl had to sit on the mat for around a half hour as leaving would indicate her acceptance forcing us to watch her cry and suffer under the confusion of her status.

After such a magnificent women's individual foil competition it kind of stained the enjoyment of the remaining rounds for me, but hopefully the sabre matches will help me to wash away the memories.

Also...watching the American lose those judo matches was pretty rough. Ah well...the matches go on.

The tape delay is so stupid. People in the west coast watching NBC, waiting for one of the swimming races, got a promo right before the race for the Today show talking about the winner of the race they were just about to watch. NBC has failed on so many levels with their coverage.

This. I don't need to know who won the events I'm planning on watching in Primetime. Hell, I don't even WANT to know. It kills my joy when we win. News sites could at the very LEAST keep the spoilers out of the headlines... Also, I'm on the West Coast.:evil::evil::evil:

Something kicked off big time in the Badminton, i knew i heard booing in the arena, but it wasn't from the game i was watching.

Think someone lost on purposeto get a better draw or something. Commentator was furious.

Also, i'm barely watching the Olympics but i'm quiter enjoying the womens football.

The butthurt Americans are always funny too.

Olympic team size:

Great Britain (541)
United States (530)
Russia (436)
Australia (410)
China (380)
Germany (392)
France (330)
Japan (293)
Italy (284)
Spain (282)
Canada (277)
Brazil (258)
South Korea (245)
Ukraine (237)

Britain has the biggest team size and home field advantage, yet still doesn't even have one gold medal...

What's going on here, guys? Why can't Britain into Olympics?

I think it has to do with money and facility you have to train athletes. That or how many mcdonalds you have. The more McD's, the more medals.

That was one coach - the US olympic swim team officials made an effort to distance themselves from those comments. Personally, I'm impressed. She beat most of the men as well as woman. Quite an amazing feat.

Unless you're Chinese I'm not sure how you can talk sh*t since the US is dominating everybody except China.

Your tears, they sustain me:D

Lol in the spirit of the olympics, I dont have to be Chinese to realise incredible talent and congratulate it as opposed to projecting a collective hubris through insecurities.
