I was mildly disappointed by the writing on the Jacob/MiB episode. It seemed a rather half-assed explanation and honestly, you can't just say 'magical light' then walk away in story-telling. Who first discovered it? Who did they breed with to protect it? Why do they know to protect it? Why are they given extended life to protect it? How do they know what will happen if it is entered? What exactly is it? Why is it bright? Why is this material only on one island? What is the lighthouse? I expected no scientifically accurate explanation but really, just saying a magical lit hole is what this story is all about sort of irks me. I adore Lost and still hope they expand upon this rather elementary plot device in the coming finale. With the ludicrously thought-out track record this plot has, such an explanation practically struck me as a joke.

But all that you want will always LEAD TO MORE QUESTIONS! Who discovered it? If you get that then you will wonder how it was created and who created it. Why are they given extended life? You find out it comes from somebody then you wonder how THEY got it. No disrespect, but just role with it. You want every small thing answered... I can tell you right now you will be disappointed in the finale.

Anyone think that we'll be left with an Ambiguous ending, like with The Soprano's (Obviously not as drastic, I don't think ABC has the power to do something like that)? I wouldn't mind it, I feel like it would fit LOST. Maybe even give us something that gives us enough to figure it all out on our own, but doesn't hold our hand. I feel like anything to direct will be a little disappointing. I'm probably wrong though.

I was under the impression prior to this episode that the island was an ancient time machine. One so large that it was worshipped, as statues of its inventors were made on top of it, and its position and utilization of natural--albeit rare elemental conditions, caused it to be worshipped by a later civilization as god, and hidden under a temple as something nobody can ever know about. My impression was backed by MiB saying "There is nothing to protect, that's the joke." It's something humanity should relish and embrace, rather it is protected by those who come in contact with it and absord its effects on living organisms. That would have been satisfactory, and numerous other explanations would have won me over, but this vague little hole filled with light? That other people are somehow evil and cannot properly protect this light due to said evil? I don't get the criteria man is judged on for guarding it. I know this light was later utilized by the gears MiB started as a means to manipulate time, and I think that is the light's overall use to man. This should obviously be protected, but how can they know why it needs protecting without knowing how to use it? Also, smoke monster. Very bland explanation, it really could have been spiced up, I accept this is fiction, so my suspension of disbelief is well in place, but this is a tad lame on a creative level. Assuming there is not more to the story. There are many magnetic wells on the island, yet one light? Are they not related? Or a result of this light on the island's environment? A little more explanation would have been nice, because Science Fiction can pull off wonderful reasons for impossible things. This is jaw-droppingly inadequate, especially after a series that made a habit of covering its own scientific ground on an obsessive compulsive level.

One thing that I find absolutely hilarious is how quickly Lost fans turned on the latest episode.

There are a LOT of people complaining about how they either didn't get enough answers, how the explanations were unsatisfactory, or how answers and explanations only lead to more questions. The hilarious thing is that that's EXACTLY what's been going on throughout the entire time that Lost was on the air.

Throughout the entire series, people were confident that the answers would be revealed. And people were absolutely fine with not knowing much only one week earlier.

Also, I've been meaning to ask this for a while:

Do we know everything about The Others? I remember back in 2007 when I discovered Wikipedia I was trying to obtain as much info as possible.

Do we know their history and what's the whole deal with them yet? Or is it another of those "sorry fans we won't be able to explain everything".

I also forget if the polar bear was ever explained. And Walt.

The others are pretty much Jacob's people. He brought them there. Some were candidates, some had other jobs like Dogen, who seemed to be the temple guardian. Richard has always been their advisor and guides them to do the right thing, preserve and protect the island.. Some like Widmore and Linus stray from that path, acting out of greed, hunger for power and jealousy. So when Ben said that they were the good guys, he was pretty much right. They just somehow got off the wrong track with his and Widmore's leadership.

I agree. I think all networks should let creators think of how long they want a series last, develop an ending, and let them stick to it.

Thats what I said...? What They Died For is episode 16. The End is split in 2 parts. The End Part 1 is one hour (episode 17) and The End Part 2 is one and a half hours (episode 18 ).

TV is about to really lose some of it's magic here very soon. Between Lost ending, 24 ending, and FlashForward not making it past the first season, about the only interesting show I have left that I can keep watching is Fringe. I'm excited for JJ Abrams new show, and I think if anyone can tackle the cop show and make it interesting and unique again, it's him.

Yeah, actually that right there is pretty much the list of all the shows I've been really wanting to get into . I started watching Weeds on netflix awhile back and I love it so far. Breaking Bad is DEFINITELY a show I want to get into as well. Still though, it seems no matter what I watch from here on out, Lost is going to leave a hole that probably can't be filled. It truly is, at least IMO, one of the greatest TV shows to ever grace a television screen and most certainly my favorite TV show in history.

Honestly, the new season of Breaking Bad has been consistently ****ing amazing.

I used to love the hell out of LOST, and routinely watched entire seasons over the course of one or two days, because I was just that hooked. But this new season just hasn't been leaving me wanting more. And with only two episodes left, it's doubtful that it will happen.

I've already all but given up on Lost. For the past month and a half or so, Breaking Bad was THE show that I need to watch every week. I actually WANT to watch Breaking Bad, because I know that every single episode is going to be absolutely excellent. Whereas with Lost, it's gotten to the point where it's just a chore. I've already lost interest, I'm just struggling to make it to the end so that I can get it over with.

Anyway, Weeds was absolutely ****ing hilarious for about the first 3 seasons. I think that the 4th and 5th seasons had a sharp dropoff in quality, though.

Random question about Lost. I just started rewatching Season 1 and I noticed something that I remember questioning before, but I don't know if they answered it. How did Jack end up deep in the damn sticks when everyone else was still on the plane and in the water by the beach. Did they ever explain how he ended up in there?

I found this interesting. I just re-watched the episode "The Cost of Living" Season 3, Ep. 5 This is the episode when Ecko dies. What is interesting is that Locke asks Ecko what he see's. Locke mentions how he saw this "beautiful light" which is the light from Across the Sea.

Thoughts?

Wow, this just came to me, but what if it was because Jack was already on the island? I think the last episode will somehow begin to repeat the entire story, so that would fit right in with it. I've been pretty sure for a while now that the last shot will be the same as the first -- Jack's eye opening.

Oh god, I had the worst nightmare last night. The Lost season finale sucked because South Park characters showed up, yet I was the only one who thought it was bad. Everyone else praised it. It was terrible.

Hehe, did the actors also reprise their roles for this?

Do you have any more shows poking fun at Lost? I'd like to see them all. Or the good ones at least.

Jimmy Fallon has a recurring miniseries on his Late Night show called "Late" and its a Lost spoof-- a bunch of people crash on a deserted floor in an elevator and its really really funny :D They already have like 5 episodes out and theyre all abut 10 minutes long

Humor is kind of unexpected, but cool if it works well this late in the game.
