[QUOTE="Rhazakna"]As a Progressive leftist, I am disturbed the callous derision of Islamic culture in this thread. Muslims are victims, and any violent act they commit in their countries are because of Western Imperialism. Yes, it may be difficult to see how an act of burning someone alive relates to Western foreign policy, but no act of violence committed by Muslims is their fault. Also, the West is attempting to export our phallocentric, hetero-normative patriarchal culture to the Muslim world, and this is wrong. Sure, burning a man alive may seem barbaric to us, but we have no right to judge their beautiful indigenous culture. Check your privilege, your white, wealthy, Western eyes can't see these things clearly, I'm sorry to say.HoolaHoopMan
As another progressive leftist, go fvck yourself in the @ss.

Clearly, you have no understanding of the point he made. To be honest, it's rather explicit in it's intent.

Some responses on this thread are truly disgusting.

The truth of the matter is with regards to Pakistan's infamous blasphemy law. Locals are known to abuse it mostly to settle personal scores unrelated to religion or blasphemy. The guy was arrested for what he did, or claim he did, and sent to prison. a mob broke into the prison, dragged him out, and burned him alive. Authorities had nothing to do with it. The problem is with security.

Also, Taliban there kill their own people of the same faith. Sunni or Shia. I have Pakistani friends who personally tell me most of these barbaric acts have nothing to do with religion. It's mostly ignorance mixed with traditions not related to Islam. e.g. honor killings.

... Once the vandalize-r finish the prophet went up to him and told him in a gentle voice, "My brother, this isn't the place for that." and just lead him out. Had that happened in Saudi Arabia or Pakistan he would be tortured to death.mayceV

Not true. Saudis who live in the country have done and said worse things on Twitter, and the most public outlash that has happened is prison time or death penalty petitions that go nowhere. Go spread your lies and assumptions somewhere else. Only ignorant mobs do that IF the news spreads. And even then 99.9% of the time stuff like this either goes unnoticed or the people who witnessed it are civil and educated enough to know of the Prophet Mohammed's (PBUH) teachings.

I'm no expert but that seems the penalty for desecrating the Quran. No big surprise. Until goverments have a separation of church and state, this will continue to happen.

Religious fanaticism is the plague of our world. Chistian's, jews, muslims... all of them take it to an extreme. Does anyone remember "the last temptation of christ" Jesus Mohamad christ it's a movie!

And all because of fairy tales created by sand people.:x

Human beings need to unite together, but as long as religion exists in government and is a major driving force within a society... it will continue to create these cancers.

Well of course muslims think so, that's one of the main justifications for how they think the book "must've been divine"

Wrong. Most of the intolerance I see in this thread is from the non religious. If you're going to justify hate then stop whining when hate leads to actions such as this.

idk what intolerance you're talking about , most people here resented the action of burning a man alive over a book , if that's what you call intolerance then what do you call the actions of the people who burned the poor guy .

Are you seriously suggesting religion itself is tolerant? Is that why being gay will still get you hanged in many religiously-affiliated countries? Hell, even here in the 'Land of the Free' the religious are throwing a fit over the free exercise of will.

Another religion-bashing topic, great...
How much you go and try to demonize, in this case MY religion, it won't work. Some internet-warriors won't stop a religion that's as big as 2 billion people. Statistically speaking, with a religion of 2 billion large...there are bound to have some idiots in them. It's not a violent or hateful religion, just some people over there are violent. They unfortunately happen to be muslims.

But I'm sure none of you have voted for presidents that have waged 2 wars killing tens to hundreds of thousands to bring their "civilasation" to them, am I right?

MrPraline, did you enjoy that last ban? Perhaps you'd like another?

Any religion that tells its followers that they are morally superior to anyone is evil. Most Christians don't understand that Christs message was the opposite of that.

I have no problem with personal faith, its when you feel morally obligated to push your beliefs on others, either through legislation or proselytizing that we have a problem.

But these people you're talking about are only violent when defending their religion . How can Islam not be violent when the punishment for apostasy and homosexuality is death , that's just to name a few . Don't you see the correlation here ? violent laws = violent people . Read about this a few days ago. I couldn't help but find it ironic that these men beat the person they think (but can't prove) burned the Koran before turning him in to police, drag him out of jail, and burned him alive but Malala Yousafzai was shot and almost killed over two months ago and they have done next to nothing. Yeah, some arrests were made but we know not much will come out of it.

And as usual we get the Christianity bashing. FYI...Christians are taught everyone is a sinner but that we should try to live by Christ's example. Again...I've never been to a service of any kind that denounces other people. Do you guys seriously believe this fantasy?

I agree. I can't remember I'm told I'm superior to other because I'm a muslim by a imam in a moskue, but I have occasionally had some imam-like people holding meetings outside of the moskue try to insinuate that. The moment they tell that, their motives are clear: recruiting young fellows into a religious war from which only old, smelly basards like that profit from. In moskues, they always tell me to treat everyone ekually and to treat them as if they were your brother or sister, regardless of race/etnicity, religion, sex or age. The dangers of radicalism comes from outside of moskues. with all the recent islam-bashing, it's not hard for young individuals that feel trampled on and discriminated against to align themselves with them. In essence, you americans are creating the terrorists.

Drop in some of the Baptist churches here in the South. You know, the 'Fire and Brimstone' sermons.

I've sat in on them, and it's no fantasy.

Yet in Turkey, approx. 80% muslim, does not have these burnings or other idiotic stuff. we have churches and synagoges in abundance. Please explain that to me. I thought Islam was violent? You said it yourself, the laws. Laws that do not originate from the Kuran or Islam. They come from the culture over there in which locals may be violent, NOT ReLIGION.

You do know that many, many Christians proclaim that The Bible is as relevant today as it was then, and that The Bible is 'Inerrant', right? Why do you think the right keeps trying to elect anti-gay, anti-abortion, anti-sex education politicians? It's not because they feel content to keep their religion to themselves, they beleive EVERYONE should adhere to their version of morals.

I support gay rights, even though personally I think it's gross. See, I'm capable of separating my personal feeling from my political affairs, because I understand that my personal feelings affect no one, but the people we elect effects us all. Just because I have an issue with something doesn't mean I should attempt to push my distaste for it into law.

Many religious feel they are OBLIGATED to legislate morality, and this is where my problem with religion comes from.

Do you not understand the difference between personal beliefs and encoding those beliefs into law or societal standards?

[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"]Bullsh*t. Then they would have focused on the group that burned the man and not spouting anti religion rhetoric. Unfortunately....I think you are too dense to see the difference so this discussion is pointless. You'll remain a bigot....but at the end of the day....that is your failing.LJS9502_basic

An example of the intolerance you were just whiningabout . In any cast , This topic was spicific , the topic was about a man being burned for "allegedly" tearing pages out of a book , people here criticizedthese actions . would you have them criticizejews about this case so it wouldn't be so "intolerant" .It's a topic showing how intolerant muslims can be , of course people are gonna critisizeIslam.

LOL....I don't care about your beliefs...it's still a failing to go through life locked in bigotry....but I'm more than happy to let you do so.....which means.....no intolerance dude.

Imagine that...someone who feels they are going to go to heaven because they chose the right invisible cloud wizard in exclusion to those who chose the wrong invisble cloud wizard calling someone bigoted.

I am laughing on the inside, even though my face is currently being palmed.

[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"][QUOTE="ultrapc"] idk what intolerance you're talking about , most people here resented the action of burning a man alive over a book , if that's what you call intolerance then what do you call the actions of the people who burned the poor guy . ultrapc

They shouldn't. That's as stupid as to say that if Lanza killing 20 elementary children was a cristian/muslim, it would not have happened. Religion detests killing of children but because he was an atheist...this was allowed to happen. Atheism killed those 20 children. You atheists have blood on your hands, BLOOD of CHILDReN!

Do you see how f!$%#@ stupid that sounds? You do? Good...cause that's how stupid you are if you pin this on religion.

Oh goody more anecdotal evidence about some services you sat through in a few Baptist churches in the south. We should most definitely believe it in that case dude.LJS9502_basic

I don't think you understand just how big the SBC is. It's not any one church or a few following that doctrine. If you see a baptist church around here (and they're everywhere, just on my street alone there are FOUR) and it doesn't say "independent, fundamental' on their sign banner, then you can bet it's an SBC affiliate.

DrTrafalgarLaw
But these people you're talking about are only violent when defending their religion . How can Islam not be violent when the punishment for apostasy and homosexuality is death , that's just to name a few . Don't you see the correlation here ? violent laws = violent people . The man "allegedly" violated the Quran , therefor he deserved to be killed , this is by their logic.this is not just the actions of a few idiots .

First of all , only 2-3 counries follow Islamic/Sharia law very closely , Turkey is not one of them , ie in saudi , homosexuals are killed , apostates do get killed and so on . second thing is, these laws do come from Quran / Sunnah , so....... yea .

It's a case of the blind leading the blind. These are the same people who believe in 'American Exceptionalism', as if God picks and chooses the political institutions whose T-shirts he's going to sport at the Rapture event...you know...where all the 'good' people get to go to the buffett and the rest of us get to suffer so much that we'll pray for the mountains to crush us.

These are the same people who will pray for their football team to win and expect God to listen, while some kids in their own town go to bed hungry. Again.

All I'm going to say is that you all are a bunch of hypocrites... to ignore the problems in your own countries and to judge the people based on your skewed notions is funny. Remember 50-60 years ago most of your damn grandparents hated anyone not white.... LOL

And as usual we get the Christianity bashing. FYI...Christians are taught everyone is a sinner but that we should try to live by Christ's example. Again...I've never been to a service of any kind that denounces other people. Do you guys seriously believe this fantasy?[QUOTE="br0kenrabbit"]

LJS9502_basic

Any religion that tells its followers that they are morally superior to anyone is evil. Most Christians don't understand that Christs message was the opposite of that.

I have no problem with personal faith, its when you feel morally obligated to push your beliefs on others, either through legislation or proselytizing that we have a problem.

um, yea, I've been to churches that have spread that message that you claim doesn't exist.

SERVES THE FOOL RIGHT! no if only Pakis and the like would actually read the book and its teachings. back during the time of the Prophet (PBUH) a non believer came to the mosque (there was only one at that time) and took a piss in the corner of the praying area the Prophets followers were fixing to jump the guy but the prophet told them to relax and wait for him to finish. Once the vandalize-r finish the prophet went up to him and told him in a gentle voice, "My brother, this isn't the place for that." and just lead him out. Had that happened in Saudi Arabia or Pakistan he would be tortured to death.mayceV
this! but sadly the Muslim leaders of today are a bunch of fvcks.

But ... it is a law to kill apostates in Islam , and going by their logic , they though he was one so therefor killed him . they are Muslims :)
