Man fights to fly the confederate flag in his dorm.

A student at University of South Carolina Beaufort has been ordered to remove a confederate flag from his dorm room. There's a slight twist in this story: the student is African American.

Any thoughts on why he would take up this fight. I got nothin'.

Wrong. Students must be prevented from expressing opinions that are wrong-think. This young man's corruptive influence should be removed from the student body. He should besent to a camp where he can be taught proper ideas that harmonious with those approved by the state.

Tricky. However if it is a public school you have the whole issue of taxpayer money going to subsidize his housing and school. There is a lot of elements at play here.

that's stupid. it's his own dorm room that he (or his parents) pays for. if he was hanging it on the outside of the door for everyone walking down the hall to see, i could understand if the school didn't want him to have it up. but the only people seeing it are people coming inside so i really don't see a problem and i can't imagine a reasonable justification for the school not allowing it.

whats funny is the confederate flag that we have today and is also what this student has is not the same one that the pro-slavery people used back in the day...it dont represent anything bad and you can really just apply your own meaning to it most people just use it to show that they are "country" or from the south...when I was in school a black kid had the same thing but painted on the back window of his truck

I've had some kids at my school fly a large confederate flag from their pickup before, its annoying, but I don't see a huge problem with it. In this case, it shouldnt even be a problem.

I too don't see what the controversy is all about.

The dorm is owned by the school, not the student.

The school can set whatever rules they want. Abide by them or leave. There's no real argument here.

lol, my neighbor in the dorms freshman year came over and burned my roommates confederate flag. He flipped out, like got really emotional. Then the fire alarm went off for the first time

It should be removed on the grounds that every white person is going to think he's a weirdo and every black person is going to think he's a self hating racist.

Public. It is a crappy branch of the University of South Carolina Columbia. Its not a very good school. I know quite a few really dumb people who go there.

Maybe the guy likes Lynyrd Skynyrd, I don't know...
