[QUOTE="Maniacc1"]I don't think that at all. I just want someone who isn't a hypocrite.

Oleg_Huzwog

If you don't think a potential Vice President is expected to have the same amount of experience as a potential President, then there's nothing hypocritical about McCain's choice.

Yes there is. I find it hard to believe that McCain can say Obama is inexperienced, but pick someone who could run this country that is even less experienced. She is next in line if something happens to McCain. I don't think a vice president should believe exactly what the potential president does, but they should at least share the views of their running mate. How can someone younger than Obama stand behind McCain saying Obama is inexperienced?

Yesterday in my political science class we were talking about how it would be a good political move for John McCain to pick a female VP candidate. I guess he knew that too. I hate politics, she's almost definitely not the most qualified person for the job.

So because Biden talks so much he's incapable of running the country? I don't know about you, but I'd rather pick a well known senator who has worked for 35 years over an unknown governor who has worked for less than 2.

You've already relented that the VP candidate doesn't have to be as experienced as the Presidential candidate... yet you revert back to comparing a VP candidate's experience with a Presidential candidate's.

And how do you feel about a Senator with over 20 years versus one with less than 3?

No, a vice presidential candidate does not have to be as experienced as the presidential candidate. But, a good vice presidential candidate must follow the same views of the presidential candidate, otherwise they are just a person standing next to them.

Palin, I'm assuming, follows the same beliefs as McCain. McCain believes Obama is inexperienced. Therefore, Palin thinks Obama is inexperienced as well. That is what is hypocritical.

No. Based upon the acceptance of a difference in experience expectations for the two positions, that is not hypocritical. It'd be hypocritical if and only if you were comparing two candidates running for the same position.

Joe Biden is, of course, more experienced than Obama. I'm not stupid enough to argue that. Biden can help Obama with his experience. In McCain's case it is reversed. Is Palin going to help McCain with her experience? No, because in that case McCain has more. Then, if McCain cannot serve anymore, Palin becomes president and we have an inexperienced leader.

Brilliant choice. She's young, but not as inexperienced as Obama. She's been a mayor, the president of a mayoral council, and a governor. She's conservative, which helps draw back people that McCain pushes away. She's a governor, while Obama, Biden, and McCain are all Senators. She's the only one who brings executive experience. It balances the ticket. And finally, she's a woman. It will help distract from the whole "first black president" hype and possibly pull women voters away from Obama.

The only way Palin could become President is if McCain dies or is removed from office. By the time such an event were to occur, Palin would have a couple years of VP to her resume. Suddenly, she'd be one of the most experienced candidates in the country.

WRONG. Palin helps McCain greatly in the experience field because she's been a mayor and governor. She's had chief executive experience; something that Obama, Biden, and McCain all lack.

I find it ironic that John McCain has continued to attack Obama's "lack of experience," but yet picks a govenor that has been serving for less than two years and is younger than Obama.

Good one, John. ;)

Palin has been a governor, a mayor, a city council woman, the Ethics Commissioner of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, a City Manager, and president of the Alaska council of mayors. She's MUCH more experienced than Obama, and a Vice President doesn't require as much experience as a president. If she had to assume the presidency for any reason, she'd already have some time as Vice President to add to her resume.

Its a shameless attempt to sweep up Hilary supporters disenchanted with Obama -- and to appear progressive (in a conservative kind of way) and young. Pure PR; pure marketing.

[QUOTE="litewo"][QUOTE="Theokhoth"]

[QUOTE="litewo"]Her experience dealing with (or even having an opinion on) things outside these narrow Alaskan issues is nonexistent. Theokhoth

You mean like energy, abortion, capital punishment and gay marriage?

I was thinking more along the lines of foreign policy, immigration, national economy and health care. Her energy policies in Alaska only serve to highlight the divide between Alaskan politics and National politics. She's completely unfit for the national stage.

Health Care.

Economy.

Foreign policy is granted.

Energy.

Seriously, your posts scream "propaganda."

That information is alarmingly slim. You do this girl no favors by showing how many issues she has not been engaged with.

And to anyone who says Obama has little experience, too, all I have to say is WE ARE SUPPOSED OT BE BETTER THAN OBAMA. Picking someone who shares Obama's flaws was the worst mistake McCain could have made. He passed over some great men just to add some estrogen appeal to his ticket.

LOL, i could be mayor of a small town like that... this VP choice is awful, mccain should have chosen some1 like rice or lieberman; john mccain has either gone cazy or has over estimated the amount of people angry over hilary not getting VP. democratic women won't come running over to the republicans, shes pro-life, the one thing every hilary supporter isnt. god dammit it feels as though mccain has clicked the self destruct button.

Being mayor of any town is valuable experience, and it's only compounded by the fact that she's also been a Governor. Lieberman and Rice would be campaign suicide, and the fact that you think either would give him a chance to win leads me to believe that you don't know a thing about the subject at hand.

Indeed, and I feel sorry for anyone who cannot see it. The GOP has the audacity to bash Obama for "not being experienced," yet this former beauty queen, hockey mom, 2 year governor of a state that has the population of Austin, Texas is some how a wise choice to be second in command of the most powerful nation on the planet, and only a heart beat away from being the next president, should something happen to a 72 year old McCain? Yes, that makes perfect sense.

When was the last time she talked to and stared down any leaders of other countries....including unfriendly ones, such as Putin and Medvedev of Russia? Oh, that's right, she never has. Yet she is more experienced than Obama, right? Do not make me puke. You actually think she stands a chance when debating Joe Biden?:P Boy, I sure cannot wait to see the first of those debates. Maybe she can tell us a story of how she baked some brownies for some disgruntled members of her local PTA, in order to diplomatically resolve an issue that occured at a meeting between the parents and teachers, lol.

Yep, the mommy and the mummy, now that is change that you can wear depends on, and if they get elected, you will be changing them a lot.....if you can afford them that is. Count on it. You only need to look at the tragic situation this country is in, and realize that it was the REPUBLICANS who got us here. Then ask yourself logically if it is wise to give them 4 more years after what has happned during the past 8?

Only if you are a millionaire, maybe I can understand why you would vote McCain, considering all the tax breaks you would be getting. But, if you are middle class or poor, then you are just asking for more pain, if you vote McCain. The pitiful housing market, collapsing economy, rising record high unemployment rates, skyrocketing fuel and food prices, tax breaks for those that already have it made, and a 9.5 trillion dollar debt is the only clue you should really need. But, hey, who cares about all that anyway? He is a war hero in another war that we LOST, and he just picked a former beauty queen, who is a true conservative that is against abortion and is a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. I also hear she hunts moose as well, so all those other issues go out the window automatically on that note, lol.

McCain only starting talking to her last night according to ABC News and everyone makes it seem ALASKA is a challenge compare to say NewYork or Cali. This is bad for McCain.

I also hear she hunts moose as well, so all those other issues go out the window automatically on that note, lol.

i lol'd  I seriously dont see how people can praise this. McCain only starting talking to her last night according to ABC News and everyone makes it seem ALASKA is a challenge compare to say NewYork or Cali. This is bad for McCain. Hes getting hype now but that will die in the coming weeks while Obama will continue to carry the momentum. I still think he picked her literally the last minute to sweep up Hilary supporters. I said this before and ill say it again, I have a feeling she will drop the race before November.

I stopped reading after that... :|

whats wrong with ABC News? If I was to provide a link or someone else, will you still make that face?

Its a shameless attempt to sweep up Hilary supporters disenchanted with Obama -- and to appear progressive (in a conservative kind of way) and young. Pure PR; pure marketing.

Weak if you ask me.

Tjeremiah1988

Everything. They have a former member of Clinton's administration as one of their main analysts. I will never trust them.

It is. Running New York or Cali is no different from running Vermont. The only difference is scale. Alaska on the other hand, has a geography and demographics unlike any other state. It's no stretch to suggest the uniqueness of the state leads to unique challenges for its chief executive.

I know. But he's always the guy they go to. And if you think ABC isn't biased, you're crazy. (I'm not referring to you I'm referring to everyone)

I dont think this is a good pick. McCain is old. He might croke in office(if he wins) and if he does I dont want an inexperienced governer taking the position as president.

A governor wouldn't be taking the position. A vice president would be. You are aware that most Presidents keep their veeps in the loop, right?

And unlike Palin (if McCain dies or is removed from office), Obama isn't going to gain any more experience before being sworn in.

She does have a lot of experience in politics in general. She was the head of the Alaskan National Guard, a Governor, a Mayor, a City Council woman, a City Manager, the President of the Alaskan Council of Mayors, and Ethics Commissioner of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. Obama was a state legislator and is now a Senator. He started his political career in 1997, whereas Palin started hers in 1992.

No he isn't. Obama has held two public offices: state legislator and State Senator. His career has lasted from 1997 to present. Palin was the head of the Alaskan National Guard, a Governor, a Mayor, a City Council woman, a City Manager, the President of the Alaskan Council of Mayors, and Ethics Commissioner of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. Her career has lasted from 1992 to present.

This woman has even less experience than Obama and is younger so that argument has been seriously weakened. People are going to be asking, "If you think Obama is inexperienced then why pick someone with less experience to be your VP?"

This is also a woman that disagrees with McCain on a ton of issues, she doesn't believe in global warming like McCain does and wants to drill in ANWAR which McCain doesn't. She's also under investigation for allegedly having a police officer fired for personal reasons.

A bad choice, IMO. She's also someone I completely disagree with on everything (except abortion) but that doesn't matter at all, I'm not American.

Well, the idea is implementing policies that help to improve things. Presidents have done that before... what to you want to know specifically?

Again, Palin is more experienced than Obama. She has held a wider variety of offices and positions for a longer period of time.

I think we should wait to see how well she does on the campaign trail before we can call this as a bad or good pick for VP.

What Obama is going to do to fix the issues that ironcreed feels will get worse under McCain.
