My favorite bands are Evanescence, Linkin Park, Paramore, Muse, and Chevelle. My favorite genre is alternative metal.

The bands I enjoy are mostly indie-rock like City and Color, Death Cab for Cutie, Against Me!, Animal Collective, Iron & Wine ect.

I'm not a big linkin park fan, but I recommend you try bands like The Fratellis, Porcupine tree, Spocks beard, a perfect circle, sylvan, and Clutch.

Indie rock wise, you should try the bands Beach House, Spoon, Okkervil river, SHearwater, Maximo park, The Dear Hunter, and Damien rice.

Of course the best place to start is Opeth, In Flames, Obituary, and Meshuggah. I am not as into death metal as other genres, I am more into progressive metal.

I listen to pretty much anything, mostly into progressive music now though. Since you are a prog fan too I would also listen to Black Bonzo, Transatlantic, Neal Morse, The Tangent, Knight Area, and Watch.

I have no clue as to what you're talking about. I've heard Evanescence, Linkin Park, and Chevelle referred to as alternative metal and only Chevelle referred to as hard rock.
