Myth #1:
Marijuana is evil! It kills your motivation and makes you drop out of highschool!

Rebuttal:
Wrong. several of my friends frequently smoke marijuana, and their GPA's are well above 3.0.

Myth #2:
Okay, so it won't turn you into a highschool dropout, but it gives you diseases and stuff!

Rebuttal:

False. it is impossible to contract any sort of disease from marijuana usage. as a matter of fact, a study conducted in Harvard in 07' states that the THC in marijuana may curecancer.

Myth #3:
Ok, so it doesn't transform you into a highschool dropout with cancer like my parents say, but it most definitely kills your motivation! it's also addicting!

Rebuttal:
Yes and no. as with all things, it is important to understand self control. marijuana relaxes the mind and makes you sleepy; it wouldn't be smart to smoke right before a test or before playing a sport. furthermore, it is impossible to have a physical addiction to marijuana, since it has 0% nicotine. most people tend to smoke joints or bowls, healthy alternatives to "dutches", which are basically cigars containing all the nasty chemicals you don't want inside of you.

love and peace!

Anyway, can we stop with this pro marijuana stuff??? It is a drug that is known as a starter drug. And although it is impossible to get "addicted" to it in the technical term, it is very possible for you to have a dependancy on it. Oh yeah, and it is unhealthy as hell unless you got really bad glaucoma or something.

it is also very possible to have a dependency on fast food. look around you if you live in the U.S., there are examples all around you. is mcdonalds illegal? no. should it be? no. and that's another myth. "starter drug". the only people who smoke marijuana and then smoke the hard stuff are those coaxed into by peer pressure; those smoking marijuana to be "cool", who see the next drug as being even cooler. that is entirely on the person, not on the drug. there is no chemical in marijuana which "makes you want to snort crack."

also, bruce lee was an avid marijuana smoker. i'm pretty sure he was healthier then us both.

That does sound to good to be true, but there have been multiple studies which show that marijuana prevents the growth of malignant tumors.

Bruce Lee died when he was in his 30s. Also, you can control the food that types of food that you eat, you cant control marijuana, only how much of it you smoke.

Marijuana in even small doses is way less healthier than soda is.

Are you encouraging me to smoke weed? I want a 3.0 GPA. I'm too stressed to sleep and do my work.

It's sad because this pot head in my class has good grades. He smells like weed all the time too.

Unless you actually post links to honorable sources on the matter, that aren't at the same time refuked by others, I'm not buying it. Bottom line, marijuana isn't good for you. It's impossible to argue that. What comes afterwards is just the other person's choice. Doesn't change that it's illegal in most countries, and I hope it stays that way.

It's not that I'm saying he's necessarily lying, but that these things are being blown out of proportion. More likely than not, these studies usually end up being something like:

[Specific compound sometimes found in marijuana] can inhibit [certain behaviors of malignant tumors] in [specific types of cancers].

Which is a far cry from what it's usually presented at (of course, this goes for pretty much all science reported in the media).

You cant self control marijuana as easily. That is ridiculous to say something like that. Drugs stay in your system for months and does all type of damage to them.

Do you know what else they use to cure cancer? Nitrogen mustards. I'd have no problem with THC being used in cancer treatment but just because something is used as a treatment doesn't mean you should be taking it(when you don't have cancer).

do you know how many blunts you'd have to smoke to get even a minor, non-fatal heart attack? 36 in the course of 7 days. that is a ridiculous amount, something that most people don't do unless they're crackheads. now, imagine 36 hamburgers within 7 days. exactly.

But that dosage is still very terrible and it will stay in you system for months. And idk if you noticed, but there are an abundance of people who use it more than once a month.

There have also been studies which have shown that frequent users of marijuana have higher rates of testicular cancer than non-smokers. I'm not saying I believe it, but there is evidence for it.

[spoiler] Again, without linking to an in-depth source just saying "Well I heard..." is useless. But here's the best article I could find on it. [/spoiler]

You cant self control marijuana as easily. That is ridiculous to say something like that. Drugs stay in your system for months and does all type of damage to them.

Links on both sides of the argument will make it a lot more interesting.
Not that I'm saying any side is wrong.

Beside which, inhaling ANY kind of smoke can cause lung cancer or respiratory illness.

I'm not sure if that's correct...

First Google result.

do you know how many blunts you'd have to smoke to get even a minor, non-fatal heart attack? 36 in the course of 7 days. that is a ridiculous amount, something that most people don't do unless they're crackheads. now, imagine 36 hamburgers within 7 days. exactly.

Who's talking about heart attacks here? Wait till I throw the punch nex time :P

TC I'm sorry but you're "facts" are absolutely ridiculous. How can anyone take this thread seriously?

But if you are doing rational ratio aspects, then 1 blunt is way worse for your system than 1 hamburger.

You didn't provide a source, so it's hard to be legit.

Also, there are 30+ concurrent studies below the first. Take your pick.

Marijuana in even small doses is way less healthier than soda is.

Gaming-Planet

Tobacco is super healthy.

Ironicly, Tobacco is actually worse than weed. I know you are being sarcastic, right?

yea cause the guy I quoted seems to think because if its unhealthy it should be illegal.

may be the case, but again, there are people eating more then 36 hamburgers per week, and it's legal. that's promoting heart attacks. provide a counter argument to that. BTW, i never said marijuana was 100% healthy.
