No, it just depends on the person..I've seen a lot of rude users who were a high level.

I think some people think they can get away with saying whatever they want without consequences, and that leads to a lot of rude and inappropriate comments; it takes a few mods before people start to realize that there's a certain limit on what you can say in the forums. You can feel free to try stretching the rules a bit - most of us do occasionally - but people need to keep in mind that there are rules, and if you try to stretch them to far then you break them.jalexbrownIf the user can't be nice without mods, can you really consider them nice at all?

[QUOTE="MushroomWig"]That's debatable, so much so that no one really agrees on it. Same thing as to when a user is considered a vet; there's really no set requirements. In my mind the person stops becoming new as soon as people recognise his or her username. So yeah anyway, regardless of whether or not the user is new doesn't chang etheir attitude to other people, high level/well know users can still be rude. When is somebody not considered new anymore?

I don't think it's a matter of being nice or not being nice; I think that newer posters want to see how far they can push the envelope without being reprimanded for their actions. I don't think they're necessarily being inherently mean or anything like that; they're just wanting to see how much they can say before they get in trouble.
[QUOTE="HorseVillain"]Lulz. Point proven! Bahaha.I'll do whatever I want.

Nah. I've been here nearly 4 years and I'm level 21. Cause I took a break. :Po snap im level 7 but ive been here for 1 year do i still count as a new user

I guess so...I don't come here enough to say for sure but I would assume it is kind of like the "freshmen high" you know the freshmen in high school try to build themselves up so as not be seen as a freshmen...Idk
o snap im level 7 but ive been here for 1 year do i still count as a new user
You're not level 7...o yea i just relized that man 3 levels in 1 month McJugga you made me feel stupidMmm, no, I did not get that from his post... Ok, that's wonderful. :? His OP said that "I'll notice a post that is rude and unnecessary, and 9/10 I will look at the poster's...indicates a new user," which is saying that most new users are rude, whether he meant to say it that way or not.I don't remember exactly what he said before the edit, but saying most the new users are rude is pretty far from saying that all are. I'm new(at least, as far as you guys know! :o) but I don't think I would of felt as though I qualify as one of these users, unless I actually was one.[QUOTE="WhaDIPuN"]
[QUOTE="LZ71"] You essentially stated that all new users were rude, and cocky.

Well I'm not new as I have been here for almost 5 years but I doubt if anyone recognises my username.

I didn't necessarily mean all when I said it, I just meant to say he thought most new users were rude.
And that's why most people don't agree on what makes a user new/not new. Everyone has their own definition. Personally, I say once you've spent a solid year here, and have been active during that year.Well I'm not new as I have been here for almost 5 years but I doubt if anyone recognises my username.

i've been here for 4 years. I know how to run things. Hopefully a little ridicule is what they need to learn from their mistakes and become part of the OT collective.
[QUOTE="AlphaRail"]That's because it is probably a bunch of obnoxious new generation of posters :(...them 13 year olds :/LZ71Age has nothing to do with how rude someone is... It's a generalization. A generalization that is like most generalizations, rudeness=immaturity. Immaturity=Teenager. Terrible typing=Teenager. Rudeness+Terrible typing=Immature Teenager obviously :O. But I am guessing you are saying that because for some reason I remember you saying in one thread you are 14 or 15.

I am 14, and I believe I have gotten into an argument with you over age before. Regardless, like you said, it's a generalization. Age has no direct correlation to someone's maturity level. I know many kids my age who are far more mature than adults I have encountered. Sure, some teenagers may be rude, but to say that because we are teenagers, or because we are a certain age, we are rude, isn't right.[QUOTE="LZ71"][QUOTE="AlphaRail"]That's because it is probably a bunch of obnoxious new generation of posters :(...them 13 year olds :/AlphaRail
Im teh level fortiez bow down to me newbies!. Idk jerks are jerks no matter what level they are.CoolSkAGuy
I've also seen tons of new, arrogant, and what I assume are thirteen or fourteen year old, users. I suppose we just have to learn to ignore them.
I'm sure a good amount are overly confident, but at the same time alot of the veterans seem to be under the impression that they set the guides to how this site should function. So to answer your question yes, there are some arrogant new users, just like there are some arrogant veterans. To categorize a group under 1 persona or the other would be totally inaccurate. But i do think some of the users that have been here longer tend to get real snide and impatient, at times with people that are newer to this site, it may be somewhat of an seniority sense of self-entitlement. But those groups coming together as one, is how the site thrives 8)
Simply because, the vets think this site is a BAR, the newbies think this site is more of a PLAYGROUND. I must say I'd stick to the playground idea better, because it's more fun creative and expressionistically free IMO.
However i dont' see why we both couldn't get along... ? yea i agee with the stereotyping... netiquette is only a pointer, but its not a rule, i mean, ppl aren't drones:?.. right?
Does it seem to you that a lot ofnew users are awfully cocky? Why do you think this is?
I'll notice a post that is rude and unnecessary, and 9/10 I will look at the poster's avatar and see Level5-7 with 50-150 posts, which indicates a new user. I thinka lot of the time this is because they areattempting to build a sort of "badass" reputation, sosome of theolder users on GS will think of it as'clever', or cool, I'm not really sure. Maybe it's just me.trust_nobody
They're testing the waters, and trying to get recognized.
They have no investment in the community, so it won't bother them if they get banned. But on the other hand, they know that no one knows them and that it's hard to get noticed as the new guy in a community of thousands.
So they try to tread on a fine line. Just cocky/rude/annoying enough to get people to realize that there's a new guy, but not quite rude enough to get kicked out.
Then, after getting a little bit of recognition and reading enough posts to see what kinds of comments are tolerated, they usually tone down their theatrics once they have a better sense of what kind of behaviour is acceptable within the community.
And then, on the other hand, you have the people who are just plain trolls. And yeah, those guys suck. But let's be aware that not every new rude person is a troll. Some of them are initially skirting the line of becoming a troll in order to get recognized aspart of the community. As well as to test the waters, and see what kind of behaviour is acceptable. Not every low-level rude person is an alt account or a ban dodger.

I am aware of this. Sorry, I was just scanning you to see if you were new. :P
i may not have many posts, but im at a good lvl and been here since 2004.. :OTobio19
You're cool; you have been here since 2004 along with me. 8)
i've been on gamespot for years and i have yet to be level 50 nor fit in the role of the arrogant jerk :|
dont generalize people by their levels, not everyone has time to post every second. some people like me, lurk the forums for years.
On another note, I think what this thread needs is a bit of Christmas spirit! Whatever problems both views have shouldn't be taken that seriously IMO, life goes on, Merry Christmas to all!!!!!:D
lol, I've noticed this myself. It happened most frequently during that MW2 debacle. It was disgusting really. I suspect some veteran users might have made alternate accounts or something. Even so, they were just damn rude, even to people asking technical questions about the game. I nearly left because of that. I wasn't impressed!!
Maybe they just didn't know the rules or something.
