As for the topic I partly agree, yeah a lot of new users tend to "cross the line", but

everyone here has the ability to be an ass, and use it sooner or later.

dont generalize people by their levels, not everyone has time to post every second. some people like me, lurk the forums for years.

But I do get your point. I have been a member for over 5 years and only have 1600+ posts. I started off a bit rude and arrogant, but that changed after a few mods and point losses. Now I am much more choosy as to what I will post in here. A lot of people forget that CHILDREN use this site as well and do not need to be reading some of the garbage that people post.

Personal responsibility goes a loooong way....

I'm going to make yet another edit on the OP. The leveling system has nothing to do with it, at all. Hell, we could pretend there was no leveling system, I only mentioned that to emphasize the fact that it's new accounts.

Agree with you on that but it is happening every day now

as soon as somebody starts insulting or asking stupid questions

you can be sure that it is ALT account

every day you can see lot's of locked topics made by ppl with one or two posts

that explains everything (not talking about genuine questions or such)

I've noticed it too with some new members. Not all, but some. I'm guess a lot of new members try hard to fit into the community as fast as they can, so coming off as a badass is the best way to get more people to notice them.Nerd_Man

Sorry, but I've talked to numerous modded users. For some, I'm sure you are right, but for a big handful of users, they act this way because they are bored with the forums. They'd like more creative posts, activity, friendlier environment, debates, more action/adventure:P. When they come to relize the entire forum is only used for debates as in a coffe bar, they get incredibly discouraged and often cofused, because 90% of newbsexpect of forums to be a 'playground' not a 'bar'... I've talked to them, that's a fact. hope i helped...

Does it seem to you that a lot ofnew users are awfully cocky? Why do you think this is?

I'll notice a post that is rude and unnecessary, and 9/10 I will look at the poster's avatar and see Level5-7 with 50-150 posts, which indicates a new user. I thinka lot of the time this is because they areattempting to build a sort of "badass" reputation, sosome of theolder users on GS will think of it as'clever', or cool, I'm not really sure. Maybe it's just me.

Note: I only mentioned the leveling system as emphasis on the fact that it is new accounts in which I've noticed this behavior most often.

I think trust_nobody has a point, since I have seen altogether too many newer members post badly, and even worse than that they abuse the "New Topic" button and hog the board.

However, you cannot believe that all are like that. I've been a member for 33 months; however, I've been posting in the forums for just the last 9 months.

Nine months ago I was Level 8 with zero posts.:P
