My dad, who works as an operator engineer. Or the people who drive and operate those big yellow construction machines. Had to have police assigned to protect his machine at all times during his shifts. As he replaces crucial gas lines in the NYC area where many of these protests are occurring.

Otherwise protesters can either do a lot of damage to the machine. Attempt to hijack it. Or rupture a gas line during operation. Neither of which is a good scenario. And will get innocent people hurt or killed.

It's kinda sad because the Brits were bringing affordable tea to the US. But, the tea party guys thought it was undercutting the local tea market. So, they tossed the British tea into the harbor. The law probably would have been on the Brits' side.

colonist 1: "#notmyking!"

colonist 2: "ugh.. look at this stupid snowflake"

It would have been nice if that was all that happened. You know, just words. Unfortunately, after the Revolutionary War ended, the Royalists were forcefully booted out. Payback time.

I spent six years in Upstate New York. We lived about 10 minutes from the Canadian border. There are families whose relatives are scattered across the border. They take it in stride because that part of the border is fairly lax.

This is the biggest discrepancy in the popular vote in our nation's history.

This is double Bush/Gore in 2000.

I found this funny and telling:

More Than Half of Anti-Trump Protesters Arrested in Portland Apparently Didn’t Vote

A new local news investigative report found that more than half of the Portland demonstrators arrested during anti-Donald Trump protests did not actually participate in the voting process.

As protests against the President-Elect continue across the country, more than 100 people have been taken into custody by the Portland Police Bureau.

NBC affiliate KGW reviewed county voter logs and registration rolls, and found that 34 of the arrested protesters didn’t vote, and 35 more weren’t registered to vote in Oregon. They did find there were 25 people arrested who did vote and another 17 with records that haven’t been determined.

Most of the nationwide protests have remained peaceful, though pro-Trump figures have suggested that violent incidents were instigated by “professional” protesters. Trump, himself, entertained that notion recently before walking things back somewhat and complimenting the demonstrators for their passion.

Watch a local report on the protests above, via KGW.

They live in Portland. Oregon voted for Mrs. Clinton by a 10 point margin. If they had voted every single one of their votes would have been wasted, they would simply have added to Mrs. Clinton's popular vote total with ZERO change in the electoral college. Everyone in Oregon was aware Mrs. Clinton was going to win in that state, negating the urgency of their voting. Perhaps knowing for a certainty that their vote was meaningless had something to do with why they were protesting, and why they didn't vote? Just a thought.

Not supporting that way of thinking, but it is very easy to understand.

Yeah, that's a bummer when she wins by over a million votes and Trump, a clueless candidate, gets in.

Trump won the election, the Republicans also kept control of the House and the Senate. The Republicans control more state houses and governorship's than the Democrats in fact it is the most since the Civil War. The Democrats not only lost the Presidency they lost the country. This was not the case in 2008 when they controlled everything. This has to tell you what the majority of the country thinks of the Democratic policies.

What it tells me is people are too lazy to educate themselves on politics.....and too lazy to vote. Don't worry in two years the switch starts. And he's a one and done. Beyond that he's damaged the Republican party as well. Congrats.

Right, but you have it in the bag until you don't have it like Wisconsin. Yes, Oregon is a (quite) liberal state but we just witnessed Donald John Trump become the President-elect, him flipping Oregon, however small the probability is something I wouldn't allow to happen by not showing up to vote.

Aside from that, the most important point is that you always should vote, no matter your state. I find quite troubling people who simply take the right to vote for granted, I always vote, if I were sick I would vote, if my voting place was 100 miles away I would vote, if my legs were crushed under a truck on voting day I would try to crawl myself to the voting booth. I don't know, I just find it troubling.

But to each his own, everyone is free to do as they wish; to vote or not to vote.

*hugs*

No what it tells me people are fed up with the ultra liberal policies that are affecting their daily lives. The Democrats abandoned the regular people. In Oregon probably the most Liberal sate in the Country the elected a Republican as their Attorney General. You Liberals always use the excuse that someone who doesn't go along with you is not as intelligent maybe it is the left who is not as intelligent.

As for what's is affecting your daily life that is caused by Dems.....who knows. The Reps gridlocked Obama so if something went through it has their fingers all over it.

There is an issue with Democrats continually rushing to the right to be "just a little more left of Republicans" of which the Clintons are famous. For the last two decades, all they've really stood for is being not as bad as the other guys.

I have to think that played a part, no?

I don't think any strong Dems switched to Trump. I think the media dwelling on emails probably hurt more than that. I mean an educated voter would be able to see through Trump. We also have a lot of people that don't bother to vote and I imagine more of those are Dems.

As a non american correct me if I am wrong but wasnt the democrats traditionally the party or the ordinary people and marginalized ( which is why it enjoys broad support from LGBT, African Americans, lations, Muslims working class of all ethnicities). Shouldnt they be more worried why they lost this support, more women and minorities blue color workers voted for Donald trump than they did Hillary. Also for people calling America racists and whatnot lets not forget this same America voted for a black guy named "barack Hussien obama" who would never have been elected if it weren't for white people voting for him.

What hurt the dems were those who didn't vote or voted third party. Trump didn't get more votes than Clinton. In fact...he lost the popular vote.

It's equal. They were colonists of a duly conducted and properly executed government. As per the Declaration the US has the right to revolt. In fact Ben Franklin said one is necessary every now and then. Nothing wrong with telling your government what you will and won't accept. The government is of the people,, by the people, for the people. Not the politicians. What would it take to get you engaged?

It kinda is, however, the British weren't a tyrannical monarchy. If anything, they were justified in taxing the American colonies because of the French-Indian Wars. The issue was that the American colonies didn't have much of a voice on the matter, which is a legitimate factor to why the Americans revolted.

This election, while legitimate, ignores the majority of the people who voted for Clinton because of the electoral college. As for them rioting? You're watching too much right wing propaganda news. Most of the protests have been peaceful. People have the right to protest just like the Tea Party during Obama's election and before that.

Just like how you had right-wingers like the Tea Party protesting against Obama for years, it's only karma that the same happens to Trump. Except this time, it's actually justified, since Trump lost the popular vote, so the majority who voted against him have every right to protest.

@drunk_pi: So it's the fault of the electoral college then? The same electoral college that Clinton used in tandem with the DNC to push out Bernie Sanders (a far better candidate then either Clinton or Trump) from the running.

Look no further than the Democratic party for fucking this election up with their voter fraud and suppression as to why we are looking forward to a Trump presidency instead of a Sanders presidency.

The electoral college always had its flaws and I never liked it to begin with. The arguments for it never made sense.

As for the Democrats "fucking up the election with voter fraud and suppression," how? The Republicans have always been trying to suppress voting rights through gerrymandering and voter ID laws. Reported cases of actual voter fraud came from Republicans.

@drunk_pi: Sure... whatever you have to say to console yourself. Go to your safe place cry room and have it out in there.

If you're resorting to insults instead of actually refuting my argument, you're pretty much triggered and wanting to be in your safe space.

Voter fraud is an exaggerated myth. It does happen but the reports of it are extremely small and not so impacting. The Republicans have always been in favor of voter ID laws, disenfranchisement laws, intimidating voters (Trump called on to his supporters to watch the polls), and so on.

If you want to live in your little bubble, fine but don't pretend that the problems aren't happening and that Trump will be any better. If you think he will be, you've been conned.

Those rioting need to grow the **** up. Hilary lost. End of story. Move the **** on and vote how you want in 4 years.

I bet you'd even have said that back in 1776.....

Hmmm

Equating people rioting because they don't like the outcome of a duly conducted, properly executed election to people revolting against a tyrannical monarchy....

Not so much.

So you consider a hierarchal monarchy to be a legitimate form of government? Ok. Strange coming from someone who volunteered to serve his country in uniform.

The Declaration is not the law of the land, the constitution is. And how did that right to revolt work out in 1861?

An actual threat to my inalienable rights would get me engaged. Try to take away my right to free speech, free assembly, free exercise of religion, keep and bear arms, etc etc. Believe me, I didn't like Obama getting elected, then re-elected, any more than you like Trump being elected. But it didn't inspire me to throw a temper tantrum, disregard the rule of law and denounce my fellow citizens, who voted for Obama, as terrible, horrible, stupid, hate-filled, etc etc. See, I try to be tolerant of other views, even those I vehemently disagree with. Guess that's why I can't ever see myself as a Democrat.

The British government exercised its authority over the colonists at the point of a gun, not by the consent of the governed.

The election was conducted, and won, under the same set of rules we have always used. A different set of rules would have dictated a different strategy, by both candidates.

Hillary was a weak, flawed candidate that represented the status quo power structure. She failed to campaign hard enough, in the proper places, to secure victory under the rules of the game. Wishing that were not so, and the outcome could be different is simply childish.

Like I said above:

Just like how you had right-wingers like the Tea Party protesting against Obama for years, it's only karma that the same happens to Trump. Except this time, it's actually justified, since Trump lost the popular vote, so the majority who voted against him have every right to protest.

Even if you personally weren't involved (just like how most of us aren't personally involved in the current protests), there were millions of right-wingers who protested against Obama for years, with Trump himself leading the way. And now it's Trump's turn to have millions protesting against him for years to come. What goes around, comes around.

Everybody should be protesting Trump. I cannot get in the mind of those that support him....which i guess is a good thing.

I've written some posts about the Trump/Brexit mindset in this thread:

Simple Question for whole Gamespot. Are you Happy Trump became Prez? (POLL)

@LJS9502_basic: I ment more minorites voted republican as compared to previous republicans, also I am pretty sure more white women who are the largest female group voted for Trump not for Hillary which is is insane, and they did lose the blue color workers , and Trump flipped previously blue states like 3 if Im not mistaken.

What hurt the dems were those who didn't vote or voted third party. Trump didn't get more votes than Clinton. In fact...he lost the popular vote.

Don´t forget the very negative and toxic campaign run by Bernie Sanders.

I wonder how his "bernie or bust" supporters feel now.

And whose fault is that? Its the responsibility of the candidate to convince people to vote for them, yes? Why didn't the DNC choose Bernie ...I mean surely someone must have realized that something is very very wrong when an old 70 year old Jewish atheist with no support from main stream media, no financial backing from wallstreet and the other heavey hitters got as far as he did. And lets be honest here Hillary did some pretty devious sh*t and conspired to blackball Mr Sanders not to mention her media friends and allies like Gloria stein and Madeleine Albright demonized women and men for choosing Bernie sanders.

If she had maybe taken bernie as her VP and adopted his platform wholeheratedly she might have stood a chance. I find the pro-Hillary camp a bit arrogant because everyone else is to blame but her, people rejected her not for legitimate reasons but sexism or ageism or FBI, If the democrats hope to remove Trump I sincerely hope they do some honest soul searching as to what went wrong.....For all our sakes

The Tea Party formed AFTER Obama was inaugurated, in response to actual actions he was taking as President.

The Tea Part groups always got the necessary permits and permissions to hold their events. Always provided proper toilet and trash services. Always cleaned up after themselves.

Comparing the Tea Party people to these protesters is like comparing a group of adults attending a book club meeting to a bunch of kids in the ball pit at Chucky Cheese.

These people protesting are idiots and should be treated as enemies of the state.

By the way, the popular vote means nothing. Since it's not how the game is played. People should have complained about it BEFORE the election if they thought it was that important.

Protesting is great. It should be encouraged.

Rioting and destruction? Not okay. I wish there was a way to hold each individual accountable for the damage they caused. I would also encourage private business owners to sue them to within an inch of their lives.

Congrats.

The US is not liberal.....let alone ultra liberal. LOL the biggest group that voted Trump was uneducated white males. So yeah....it's his supporters that are lacking there. As for what's is affecting your daily life that is caused by Dems.....who knows. The Reps gridlocked Obama so if something went through it has their fingers all over it.

It was a good thing or it would have been even worse although I don't see how he pretty much screw the country.
