[QUOTE="HoolaHoopMan"] Yeah, lets leave it up to states so they can let bigots ban it. Hurr Durr. HoolaHoopMan

Marriage is already under the domain of the states, not the federal.

Not disagreeing with you there, just can't say I'm a fan of that though. Doesn't seem to work very well when state legislatures are full of bigots or when its put to a ballot.

Well it's good that you don't disagree, as that would fly in the face of reality.:P

But seriously, what else can be done?

The debate over same-sex marriage needs to stay out of the federal government. It should be left up to the states. I hope Obama doesn't try to rally congress to make gay marriage federally legal.

Yeah, lets leave it up to states so they can let bigots ban it. Hurr Durr.

That is exactly what Obama proposed.

I agree with his stance on gay marriage, just not what he wants to fully do about it though.

All I have to say is that its about damn time someone spoke out for the side of common sense. Supporting same-sex marriage is this generation?s equivalent of supporting interracial marriage. I'm gay myself and I have a boyfriend, whom I love very much, and it just feels good to know that theres a possiblity that we can get married in the future.

His "stance" is an effective non-stance, tantamount to little more than a symbolic gesture, in a similar vein as Ron Paul's.

He's definitely going to lose evangelical Hispanic and Black voters over this. They might not vote Romney, but instead opt to just stay at home. It has always been clear to me that Obama supported gay marriage. He just didn't feel comfortable (politically) coming out and saying it in 2008.

I'm surprised he came up and straight up supported gay marriage. Possibly the ballsiest thing he has said.

Marriage is a religious institution, thus the government shouldn't be involved. Heterosexual and homosexual unions, however, should be recognized for financial reasons. It's obvious that 2-5% of the human population is gay without a choice, so they should be given the same rights as straight couples.

I don't understand why gay people are so fervent on getting "married." If everything in the Bible is true, they can't! It clearly states marriage is between a man and a woman and condemns homosexual relationships. But the Bible is just an arbitrary holy book written by unkown various authors hundreds of years ago, so it shouldn't be taken seriously.

Political gain I'm sure, but who cares; it's a good thing. Same sex lovers have no reason not to be allowed the same disgust opposites experience after 5 years of marriage. They deserve just as much right to experience divorce and having half their **** taken as we do.

It won't change much. Particularly since Mr. Evil Supreme Dick Cheyney is pro gay marriage and gay rights. As long as Obama doesn't push legislation, it won't amount to much more than a symbol.

Now you're making the assumption all black people are against this? I would hate for my ethnic heritage to be confined to one political view as you are assuming, that's pretty offensive if you ask me.

Because protecting marriage is truly a liberal concept. But, I think you should still vote for Romney regardless of your political viewpoint. Romney has the House and basically half the Senate. He can actually get sh*t done, unlike Mr. Obama who lacks bipartisan leadership skills.

How does one protect marriage? I mean, personally i draw some of my marriage views from the bible. You know, rapists marrying rape victim, men having 3 wives, etc. That's the marriage we should truly protect. The ones from the Bible.

If you think that Mitt will have an easier time getting legislation through, you are sorely mistaken. The partisan divide goes far beyond the aboslute numbers in the House and Senate. Republicans are refusing to work with Democrats and vice versa. It goes far beyond the POTUS.

you know, I find it funny (not in a ha-ha sense) that people want to protect marriage by outlawing gay marriage, but don't see the need to protect marriage from divorce, or weddings like the Kardashian/whats-his-face NBA player wedding, or whatever.

Any sanctity that marriage had died a long time ago.

Polygamy is never shown in a positive way... the Bible highlights problems that result from it. Nowhere in the Bible does it states that one man should have more than one wife. Stop cherry picking.

Ploygamy is never condemned outright, and many of that list are among the pillars of the (ahem) Abrahamic religions. It isn't cherry picking. It's an argument against you.

This begs the more important question: Do you rubber stamp the bible without reading it?

DroidPhysX

Oh... the irony.

Indeed. It's quite clear you haven't read the bible. The ultimate irony.

Good comeback. I love your subtle attack on the Bible by not capitalizing it during the sentence, which clearly denotes that you think it's unimportant. I've seen you do this multiple times with other things as well. Or maybe it was unintentional? Maybe it's your troubled subconscious showing?

Obama is a flip flopper, hes been all over the place with his stance on gay marriage. Though I'm finally glad he officially supports it now.

Blue-Sky

Flip flopper as opposed to Romney? lol...

Never said he wasn't either. I personally don't like either of them.

Focusing on an irrelevant aspect of an argument. Neat.

Aren't you Christian as well? Man up and defend your religion. I can't think you believe people like droidphysx are making better arguments than me.
