Yep, this is ALL Obama's fault. Nothing to do with congress or the previous administration or anything.

In fact lets also blame him for the economy crashing and give the previous administration all the credit when Osama is killed, all while hating on any new concepts he might present. Yep.

SPYDER0416

I defend Obama a lot but I'm sure if he didn't want this to happen he could've easily stepped in and stopped it.

I think it's reasonable to put blame on Bush and Congress for a lot of things but not this.

I'm not American so I'm not entirely sure how much power the president really has over there but from what I've heard from a few teachers here in my country is that when you become president in America you basically become the most powerful man on Earth. You'd think he'd be able to stop something like this if that were true and if it is true but he refuses to stop it then it's as good as giving support to it in my opinion.

It really seems like the only point to having a president is to have somebody to blame when things go wrong. Obama isn't much of a leader in my opinion and while I think he's had mostly good intentions along the way he would have been better in another position.

Well since we are not in a state of financial crisis and do not need any additional tax revenue, it only makes sense to shut down an industry that would potentially pump billions of dollars into our country's coffers via hefty taxes that the dispensaries so gladly pay. That way we can continue to support the big tax evading corporations that provide extremely toxic (but legal!!) alternatives to this very practical substance. One thing that really pisses off corporate America is seeing someone else make tons of money and then go and actually pay their taxes on it. When I read that the IRS is attacking Medical Marijuana dispensaries for taking the very same deductions that places that sellliquor and cigarette do, I have to wonder about their motives. Are not those also 'controlled substances? What about pharmacies? Rx drugs are controlled too, right?

the president has the power of enforcement, he could simply not enforce laws he does not agree with or focus on issues he feels are most important. bush backed off of cali when medical mary was legalized.

Yeah, nevermind the fact that the people of California voted this into state law. Although federal trumps state law there should be more discussion rather than a cease and desist order.

I'm talking about the recent history of the drug. It's not like it was legal during the lifetime of much of the people who frequent this site...so for all intents and purposes...while Cali passed that law...it was in contradiction to US Federal Law which does supersede state laws. And hence...NO POLICY change which I stated.

I made no assumptions (it's pretty silly that you're even trying to act like I did). I simply said that he didn't say it was isolated to one President, which he didn't. He might believe it is (tho he probably doesn't), but he didn't SAY that.

I got involved because a) I can b) I wanted to and c) it's kind of annoying when people respond to statements the other person didn't make.

Even if we agreed that all drugs are bad, that's no reason for them all to be illegal.

Oh boy. I didn't say it was obvious to him (tho I'd give him the benefit of the doubt, since he seems like a reasonably intelligent person). I said it was obvious in general, which it is. Somebody would have to be pretty dull-minded to think that only one President gets blamed for bad stuff.

I'm really not sure what was the point of your comment. It seems that either you assumed that he thought that blame was isolated to one Pres. and argued against that or assumed that he was not smart enough to realize that all Presidents get blamed.

It would seem that before posting something so obvious it could be seen as condescending, one would wait until someone actually states only one President gets blamed.

Why are people claiming this is Obama's fault and specifically that he signed off on it? This is most likely spearheaded by the Justice Department which is headed by the Attorney General Eric Holder, and even then this is probably being orchestrated by other agencies and with their own leadership. To say Obama is responsible by that standard one might as well say Obama was responsible for that Operation Fast and Furious fiasco. The president doesn't sign off on the activities of all departments and their own numerous agencies with even their own leadership for all their day to day activities or else he'd probably not even find time to pee, there's obviously multi-leveled leadership hierarchy. Plus, a lot of this has to do with the Treasury Department making things complicated for the medical marijuana dispensaries to operate like businesses, the marijuana businesses pay taxes to the IRS and calculated tax deductions like standard businesses but the IRS isn't allowing those deductions and retroactively sticking them with huge back taxes.

If you want to be dramatic and take it as an attack on you, that's your prerogative. Wasn't my attention. People arguing what the other person said just happens to be a pet peeve of mine, and I would respond the same way to anybody.

It would seem that before posting something so obvious it could be seen as condescending, one would wait until someone actually states only one President gets blamed.

GreySeal9

Oh it's not dramatic. It's experience. I made a rather innocous comment to a user and you jumped in with your assumptions. This post of yours above is also an assumption as to what I meant. YOU DON'T KNOW.

for some reason, all I'm getting in my head is the voices of hundreds of mary jane users going, "Your Seriously Killing my High man" or"Down With the Man, man, he took my bud"

No, it's dramatic (just as using caps lock is). In no way did my post attack you personally. Like I said, I would have replied the same way to anybody that made a similar kind of comment because I find it annoying in general, not just when you do it.

What post above are you speaking about?

I'd add food and maybe a few other things, but yeah, this is what I was getting at. The "need" argument is terrible.

This isn't the first time. One doesn't have to personally attack a user to be attacking the user. Anyway...this topic is not about me so that should be the end of that line. The topic is Obama and medical marijuana shops in California.

we need marijuana less than we need to just get rid of the laws prohibiting it, putting lots of non-violent offenders behind bars is a serious strain on the economy

you woud need to point to specific foods, that is why i did slim jims, also thought it was fitting given the topic. if you just stated food, people need food, but people dont NEED and specific food, and yea "needs" arguments are about as fleshed out as a coll summer breeze

I don't see why it matters that it isn't the first time as I have responded to other people who have done the same thing in much the same way, so you really shouldn't take it personally.

Of course the topic is not about you, but any post you make is fair game. Again, it's not personal.

Yeah, I was just talking about the food one needs to survive. I agree with you on slim jims (and I imagine those things are not very good for you).

I've been discussing the topic as well.

Also, you've gone off topic before (as have most people in OT; and you've gone off topic in this thead as well), so I'm afraid lecturing me on that doesn't really carry much weight.

i cant believe i am going to say this but... screw the economy in this case, what about the millions of lives hurt or destroyed because of these harmless behavior laws. could taxing this help the government? sure, but you wont see me arguing that avenue.

Time for the Supreme Court to get involved with state rights and federal law. Oregon is also another state that has a medical marijuana law which was voted by the people. Being a democracy, the people have decided its ok to have such of thing in our society.

It would be better if the federal govt would put a reverse on marijuana ban all together, that would save billions and then the feds would make billions on taxes.

I really have yet to hear any even slightly pragmatic argument in favor of the laws. It just seems that people continue to support the anti-weed laws due to stubborness. I could be wrong, but that's what it seems like.
