Not anymore. You must be thinking of the 1970's, which is when the last republican reduced government spending. As a matter of fact, Bill Clinton reduced government more than any of the last 4 republican presidents!:o

he didnt reduce government, he jsut managed the big government better. Ill be the first to admit the republicans havent been up to par. But if more people were INTERESTED in small government and knew what it was about and how its all about more freedom, im sure we would have better guys.

Ronald Reagan was good, but for some reason he couldnt cut the spending even though the taxes were.

The republican party is based off of minority rights.

If the majority of people on here voted that you had to become a scientologist, would you want to? Majority rules in democracy. In a republic, the majority only has so many rights to protect a minority

No, actually, it means the exact opposite. Small government means all individuals make their own choices without the government telling them what to do, or how to spend their money. Democracy should be limited anyway. No one should be able to take another man's rights.

Social reasons? Libs and libertarians find some common ground there.

Well, he was always barely qualified as a Democrat in terms of ideology anyways. I pretty much have to support him regardless considering he almost perfectly matches my position on left/right political spectrum as a liberal libertarian.

Yeah, but it's not like the republicans have been implementing classical liberal economics recently. Quite the opposite, actually.

Same here. Gravel and Kucinich (sp?) were the best, I think. Wish we could have more like them in the US.

If you're fed up with the federal government, why would you vote in the party that wants to *increase* it's size and control, not decrease it? McCain, like the more traditional republicans, seeks a massive downsize of the government, especially with concerns to wasteful programs and earmarks.

Anyway, i'm sure everyone knows who i'm voting for, McCain. Last thing we need is the poster-child for inexperience.

Yeah, because experience has worked SO well for the current guys. To some, inexperience in Washington is a good thing, especially in times like this when corporate ties have so much pull in policy.

Speaking of which, does anyone know if it's possible to "write in" a candidate that is a 3rd Party if you're registered Democrat during the Primary? Just curious, because I was under the impression that you can't do so, but if I can, I may be back to Gravel...

John Hagree is not John McCain's friend, pastor, nor was on any of his committees. Hagee didn't bring John McCain to Jesus. Hagee didn't pray with John McCain before announcing his candidacy . John Hagee didn't baptize John McCain's children. Hagee didn't proside over the wedding of John McCain and his wife.

Theres a reason why nobody brings up John Hagee and John McCain, because aside from the endorsement, which McCain can't do anything about (Louis Farrakhan endorsed Obama, though Obama denounced him), because its a very weak argument.

If John McCain's pastor, whoever he might be, actually stood at his pulpit, and said things like "Black people are holding America back" or "God Damn America" or gave an award to the Grand Wizard of the KKK, I gauruntee, the media would be all over it, and John McCain's political career would be over, and no one would be buying the whole "I didn't know he said that" excuse. I mean for crying out loud, you can buy Jeremiah Wright's services on DVD from the Church.

I'm voting for John McCain. I don't agree with everything he says, but I don't support socialist ideals and I don't trust "speeches."

Now can you show me where McCain said that he attended Hagee's church for twenty years, was married by Hagee, put Hagee on his campaign trail and took his children to Hagee's church their whole lives? Or how Hagee is different from any of the other 20,000 people who support McCain?

Yes, i'm sure inexperience will come in handy when it comes to the future of yoru children and the security of our country. Oh, maybe not. We just need a better person who has experience, not a person who is just plain inexperienced. To think that a person inexperienced will be an unbiased perfect candidate has got to be on the top 10 of ignorant statements.

Hey, we survived 8 years with what we survived with, you really think inexperience can bring down this country?
