Online Piracy, is it justified in your view?

No because they expect a tip after the service. Here in the UK tipping is not really needed. I go to places like The Harvester and Nando's, the food taste great.

Latest number I have, 2006-2009 show a pretty steady increase.

Seems clear music companies are doing fine, and not raising prices to try and make up for piracy "losses".

They may very well be doing fine, that doesn't change the fact that things happen to the consumer as a result of piracy. And my argument wasn't directed solely at the music industry, either.

Last I checked music is doing fine, books and literature are doing fine, and video games are doing fine... Especially consider that america is in a recession... Feel free to look that up yourself however.

And anything that happens to the consumer is the result of an action taken by the respective inductry, not by pirates.

You're getting a service for free. It's not justified.

Intellectual property isn't a product like food or a car, it's a service like getting your hair cut or eating out. Using the service without paying is not justifiable.

Yeah, pretty much.

I think it is wrong to download a movie or song without paying for it. However. If you paid for a DVD you should be able to rip it to make a digital copy for personal use. And if i buy a movie from itunes i should be able to burn it to a DVD for my own use.helwa1988

On topic, I think piracy is good for my wallet but bad for the developers. If something is really good I buy it. I used to download musics illegally but then I saw itunes has musics really cheap so..

I'm not a pc gamer also, so I don't download games.

I like pirates, they're way cooler than ninjas...

While I am only against piracy of video games, I don't really think any of it is any justifiable, except maybe anime which is very hard to obtain (unless you stream). I think it's better to use some kind of streaming service (Spotify example) for music though. The whole freedom thingy the the hardcore pirates talk about is a joke though, wish they would just cut the bull**** and admit that they are downloading stuff because it is pretty damn convenient.

Of course not. Theft is theft. You can make whatever argument you want, but at the end of the day when you download something illegally you aren't paying for it. Theft.
