I'm sorry, I have to disagree with you and agree with "sonic__323".
Just because they scream doesn't mean it's screamo. I'd call it Metalcore. This is screamo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ooGFcNCcG00[QUOTE="RawShnizz"]

Just because they scream doesn't mean it's screamo. I'd call it Metalcore. This is screamo: I already tried on the last page. I think we need to concede that pop-culture stole our genre title. Good job on the Indian Summer link, though I doubt anyone will listen. Yeah, I guess you're right... And Indian Summer is amazing.[QUOTE="RawShnizz"]

I don't really see how you can, as it's defined as a specific genre, and has been assigned to several bands, some accurately, some not[QUOTE="YourChaosIsntMe"]

Thank you but yeah, let's not leave this thread as a debate.Scream-o? I've never even heard of that and I have no actual idea what that is *goes to Wikipedia*
Oh, you mean the music genre? Nope, can't say I have.

You can't disagree with it. I've already made it clear that I concede the genre title to the terrible music that has been given the title over the past half-decade in the "mainstream" music industry. What you know of as "screamo" is only related to the genre distantly. Instead of arguing with me, listen to the bands that RawShnizz and I listed. In essence, they have a lot in common with your favorite bands. It's exceedingly complex this decade because the vast majority of popular music shares some connection with legitimate non-commercial genres. Music, contrary to popular belief, is not defined by popular opinion. The issue of screamo gets difficult because the music you listen to can have no other title. It's entire existence beginning earlier this decade is formed around misappropriating a genre title (thanks to the roll of toilet paper called Rolling Stone). It's peculiar because this has never happened before in the history of pop music (which is only 60 years old anyway). It's an issue of a commercial subgenre of "pop" being vaguely influenced by a genre of music called screamo, and then appropriating that title (this is actually the case with all emo...kind of).
In fact, a consideration for the entire development of emo, post-hardcore, and screamo and it's eventual demise under the weight of pop-culture is woefully complex, and I don't have the time to discuss it. Instead of listening to me, and instead of wasting an hour of my life, go to Amazon.com and order Dance of Days, then visit Fourfa's what the heck is emo anyway? After this, visit all of the live performances RawShnizz and I linked to. You can also visit a companion site to Fourfa's with mp3 samples.
I will gladly discuss the topic further when I have more time, if you so wish. There's nothing I enjoy more than the subject of musicology. :)

Wow, that was long..You got that right.Post-hardcore and metalcore bands are not screamo. Screamo is an offshoot of hardcore punk and emo.

No its not. Screamo is screamo. Death metal is Death metal. Pretty easy concept. To answer the question, no I do not listen to Screamo. I listen to screaming music but of the genres of Post Hardcore, Metalcore, mathcore, electrocore, and deathcore.I find the poll results hard to believe. They are post-hardcore. Well, how you do you know for sure that they really are? Discussion need not be mundane. Some responses warrant a long response. Even so, I would consider that a short response.
Anyway, I have made the point clear. I have provided you with empirical evidence. Again, musicology is not defined nor directed by your opinion, or your friends' opinions. It would be advantageous for you to understand that you may actually know absolutely nothing about the genre. There is nothing wrong with the music that you like, and you're entitled to listen to it without being disrespected, but your opinion is patently wrong; you are misinformed. There is nothing wrong with this - the vast majority of people know nothing about the arts in general, be it music or literature. If you so choose, you can develop an understanding of the genre. You will not accomplish this by convincing yourself that everyone's opinion is valid and applicable, or assuming that a general consensus serves as validation.
I have given you the tools to discover screamo. Do so if you wish. If you're content with listening to pop*, then ignore me and enjoy the music that pleases you.
*I'm referring to pop in the negative exclusive.
Edit: Sonic, is English not your native tongue? If it isn't, I apologize for being so "wordy."

Yes says me. I think we can all agree that screaming / growling sounds bad and is not singing. The only way they get people to listen to their music is by inserting backwards lyrics that subconciously brainwash their listeners.

Proof of brainwashing please?screaming at the top of your lungs has very little to do with guttural Death Metal vocals. Harsh vocals are the only thing Screamo and DM have in common, if a Screamo "musician" tryed to play a Death Metal rif he would most likely explode from doing soI find the poll results hard to believe. I mean, that doesn't even make sense. :? Brainwashing us with lyrics that we can't even understand? How the **** does that work? And no, I don't agree. Growling sounds great. :| Juggernaut140Agreed.
