I'm just gonna post this link in here too, this thread doesn't feel quite complete without it.

http://www.angelfire.com/trek/caver/page1.html

It's Ted's Caving Page.

I read it all and HOLY CRAP is all I can say. Is there another site that is updated? I see that the last update was 5/19/01, and I really want to know the conclusion of the venture into the cave one last time. ARGH! I need closure

So he perished before he could finish the journal? That sucks, because that was really interesting. I'm goign to try and find out more (Doubt much more exists). Just to clarify, that was all 100% real wasn't it?

SilentCapybara

Personally I don't think it's real, but I never found confirmation...

...and I can't say whether they perished or not... they just didn't return. It took me awhile to realize that.

And just to keep that "lock" away:

During the summer of 1983, in a quiet town near Minneapolis, Minnesota, the charred body of a woman was found inside the kitchen stove of a small farmhouse. A video camera was also found in the kitchen, standing on a tripod and pointing at the oven. No tape was found inside the camera at the time.

Although the scene was originally labelled as a homicide by police, an unmarked VHS tape was later discovered at the bottom of the farm's well (which had apparantly dried up earlier that year).

Despite its worn condition, and the fact that it contained no audio, police were still able to view the contents of the tape. It depicted a woman recording herself in front of a video camera (seemingly using the same camera the police found in the kitchen). After positioning the camera to include both her and her kitchen stove in the image, the tape then showed her turning on the oven, opening the door, crawling inside, and then closing the door behind her. Eight minutes into the video, the oven could be seen shaking violently, after which point thick black smoke could be seen emanating from it. The camera then continued to stationarily point at the oven for another 45 minutes until the batteries apparantly died.

To avoid disturbing the local community, police never released any information about the tape, or even the fact that it was found. Police were also not able to determine who put the tape in the well.

6 scary things:

1. On certain nights, the mortician in the morgue locks his office door and spends the night praying. He shivers when the sc#%%%s noises pass by his door. He never looks for the bodies that disappear...

2. Children chant a new rhyme as they play jumprope.
"One for blood, two for stone.
You never know, when you'll be bone.
Three for fire, four for death.
You never know, you'll loose your breath.
Five for sin, Six to kill.
You never know, what's under the hill."

3. After investigating a place where a murder had taken place, you find a simple audio tape. Playing the tape reveals it to be a typical mix tape made by the victim's lover.

However, between one of the songs, a strange sound is heard. Repeated playing reveals that the sound changes each time it is played.

Playing the sound backwards reveals it to be a chilling voice that says: "Four…"
Playing it again results in "Three…"
Again: "Two…"

4. You see blood fall onto the carpet. You look up. There is nothing on the ceiling. Examining the drops, you notice that they are still falling. But they are falling from a spot about chest high in the middle of the room...from thin air.

5. A stray black cat guards your back porch each night. You can hear it battle something big every night right after midnight. And each day it becomes weaker. Soon it will die...

6.While eating peanuts, you crack open one to find a very small piece of a torn photo. As you open more peanuts, you find more and more pieces. When you tape it all together, you see a photo of a large hole in the wall of your bedroom.

This thread will LIVE ON, last post of the night.

9 scary things:

1. A small red dot appears in the center of your vision, as time passes it grows larger and larger. Soon, it will be big enough to see the face inside..

2.The lights in your hallway begin to flicker. When the light is on, you see nothing. But each time it goes out, you can make out the silhouette of a figure. Each time the light goes off, it gets closer.

3.While visiting a friend in the hospital, you overhear a woman crying in grief over a miscarriage. As you walk through the lonely halls of the hospital on your way out, you see a small trail of blood leading to a corner. For a split second, you can see the end of a severed umbilical cord being dragged around the corner.

4.I can see you.

5.You find yourself in the middle of an old, decrepit school. You dont know why you are here. As you walk through the dark halls, you notice all the lockers door's have been torn off except one. The one remaining locker with a door has a large padlock and chains on it. Behind it you hear something moan.

6.Only allow water to flow through the drains. Anything else will feed it.

7.You see a small glint in the shadows underneath your computer desk. It looks like something moist and glistening in what little light shines down there. You sit at your PC and turn it on. You do not see a start up screen. Instead, a single large eyeball in the center of the screen looks at you. As the eye fades, The words "Im Hungry." appear.

8.Everytime you blink, something moves.

9.Pray you fall asleep fast enough. You don't need to see it watching you from across your room.

Sorry for the spam. I'd just like to tell you, my nerves are in pieces, I've been warily looking behind me three times for each minute over the past hour and half, I went to the bathroom and heard a strange sound in the air, like a screeching sound and I keep imagining weird things on the tv to my immediate left.

I hate you all. :(

This isn't as good as most of the stuff I've read but I love this thread and hopefully some people will enjoy it.

There once lived a local girl named Stacy, she lived in a simple town...one day she went a basket ball game, it ended late....when she walked out of the building, and got to her car. She notice a trucker from a distance, it looked like he tried to yell at her about something but she ignored him and got into her car, and drove off. While on the road she notice that the trucker was behind her, she didnt mind... she thought that the trucker was just on the same road with her. But he followed her. When she turned right, the trucker turned right...when she turned left, the trucker turned left...

Stacy was a bit scared, so she drove a little faster, and turned to an alley, that no one usually goes through, but it was a short cut to her home. But the trucker drove faster and followed her, at this point Stacy was freaking out. Then the trucker turned on his Highbeam, and kept on turning on his highbeam every 2 minutes. After 10 minutes, the trucker just left on his highbeam on.

When she got home, she ran out of the car, looking back the trucker came out with a shot gun, she ran inside the house and told her dad to call the police.Qhen the police finally arrived, and arrested the trucker, the trucker yelled out, dont arrest me... arrest him! And pointed at the car when the police looked inside the backseat of a car, there'd lies a man with a knife.

The trucker explained to them that he saw a man sneaking into stacy's car, and when he saw stacy he tried telling her that someone was in her car, he would of called the police earlier but she alredy drove off, and so he followed her... and when the man tried to kill her, he would turn on his highbeam... so the man would duck down again...

The elevator's been down for three straight weeks at my hotel. Unfortunately, it is up to me to take the laundry up to Housekeeping. This includes several trips up and down the stairs, and I usually go at around 3 am.

If you're a night owl, you know how creepy that hour is... Every trip I refuse to look into any reflective surfaces, in case some ghost feels like it needs to scare me. What is it about hotels and hauntings, anyway? The several people going in and out daily, their energies left behind, the feeling that something is there, just around the corner...

Anyway. I try not to let it bug me too much. Or I did, until the elevator went down, and I was forced to spend more time than I've ever wanted in that small stair well.

It didn't start right away. It came gradually. Sometimes, when I would come back down to grab another armful of sheets, I would hear a very, very faint sc#@@!#! sound; a sound that, if pressed, I'd describe as claws sliding across the cemented ground.

Then it changed. The next week, while I was deciding how much I could carry up, I was startled by a growling noise. I thought I might have imagined it because the sound was so quiet, but I looked around anyway. Beneath the stairs, I saw the familiar locked door-trap. I didn't mention it before, because I had never paid it any mind. But now...

Now, it was slightly ajar, only as far as the lock would allow it. Within the hairline crack was impenetrable darkness ... and something else. There had to be. Where else could that hideous noise have come from?

I forced myself to shake off the feeling since I had more laundry to put away. I heard nothing else the rest of that night, nor the next couple nights.

Until last night. On my last round of the up-and-down-the-stairs-game, I heard the growl again. Before I even had time to tell myself I was hearing things, the sound was chased by a terrified yowl, and then the sound of fighting animals ... coming from behind that trap-door. I know this, because at one point, something hit it, and the door bulged against the steel lock so hard I dug my nails into my palms ... but the lock held. Seconds later, the yowling ceased, and the silence afterward echoed with the aftermath of whatever it was that just happened.

I, obviously, did not stay to find out. I ran as fast as I could (with my bloody palms) into the front office, locked myself, and thanked the architects for separating the office and lobby from the rooms (and stairs). Nothing else ominous happened, also obviously since I'm here to write this, but I have to work tonight. And I have to go back to that stair well, because the elevator is still down...

A man is sitting a hospital room with three people in terminal illness and gets to know them well. He leaves the hospital the following day. But while walking homw, a bus stops at a corner thats not a bus stop, and man that was pale and emitted coldness around him. The busman said " Get on" but the man continues walking home. The next day while walking home he notices the busman again and the same routine happens, but this time he sees one of the terminal illness patient from the hospital there. And the following couple days he sees the other two patients with terminal illness on there too. Putting this together, he believes the bus is actually driven by the grim reaper.

The next day, the man is walking his dog but his dog gets loose and runs inside the bus and it drives away becuase he refused to go unto the bus. The following day while walking home, he sees his dog run towards him but goes past him as if he isn't there. Giving pursuit, he follows the dog a short distance and comes across three people huddled in a circle staringscreaming hystirecally and trying to dial 911. He goes to see what it is, and there layed a man shot multiple time in a random crime while his dog is trying to lick him but 'tis in vain

 I loved that one, I sat quiet for a while looking at your pic thinking: "What would I do in the future if I came across a thing like that?"

And my stories are starting to dry up but I thought I'd fill some of you in on the Holders stories:

------------------------

Holder of the End

In any city, in any country, go to any mental institution or halfway house in you can get yourself to. When you reach the front desk, ask to visit someone who calls himself "The Holder of the End". Should a look of child-like fear come over the workers face, you will then be taken to a cell in the building. It will be in a deep hidden section of the building. All you will hear is the sound of someone talking to themselves echo the halls. It is in a language that you will not understand, but your very soul will feel unspeakable fear.

Should the talking stop at any time, STOP and QUICKLY say aloud "I'm just passing through, I wish to talk." If you still hear silence, flee. Leave, do not stop for anything, do not go home, don't stay at an inn, just keep moving, and sleep where your body drops. You will know in the morning if you've escaped.

If the voice in the hall comes back after you utter those words continue on. Upon reaching the cell all you will see is a windowless room with a person in the corner, speaking an unknown language, and cradling something. The person will only respond to one question. "What happens when they all come together?"

The person will then stare into your eyes and answer your question in horrifying detail. Many go mad in that very cell, some disappear soon after the meeting, and a few end their lives. But most do the worst thing, and look upon the object in the person's hands. You will want to as well. Be warned that if you do, your death will be one of cruelty and unrelenting horror.

Your death will be in that room, by that person's hands.

That object is 1 of 538. They must never come together. Never.

------------------------------

There's also a Holder of the the Beginning,Holder of the Light, Holder of the Mirror, Holder of Nothing and many many more. The normal people who decide to look for all these holders are called seeekers.

The holders stories can be found inThe Seekers Site

You need to scroll down a bit to see the Holders stories. Seekers don't only look for Holders, there are a lot of different "easter eggs" left behind on earth, some more dreadful than others...

-------------------------------

Turn out the lights. All of them. Shut your now useless eyes and focus on silence. Once you have blurred the noise around you, look inside. look deep into your heart for something that is not you. When you find it, ask its name. If it does not respond say to it "This is MY body and I am king in it. You will speak." then ask again. Listen closely with ears you don't have to the voice you will hear faintly. Then pull it from its resting spot and fight it.

I love folklore/urban legends as well.

On any night with a full moon, open up iTunes, winamp, windows media player, or whatever you may use to listen to music on the computer. Put the player on shuffle, and at exactly 12:00 AM, start shuffling through your songs. Eventually, the player will land on a file called "This is your problem now.mp3"

Close your eyes and wait. For a minute, there will be silence, and after that, horrible screams of agony and torture will come from your computer speakers. Do NOT open your eyes, or images of the most incomprehensible evil will appear in your mind. For seven minutes, the screams will continue, becoming louder and worse every moment. Finally, when all goes silent again, open your eyes.

You will be in a subway, sitting on a bench next to a man. The man will offer you a cigarette-- if you refuse, you will wake up in your chair, and it will only be 12:01 AM. It will be as if nothing ever happened.

However, if you accept, he will light it for you, and then he will tell you all the secrets of life, and the universe. After he finishes, you will wake up in your chair, still with the knowledge the man gave you. Most people go insane from knowing, however, and many have killed themselves.

Hungry_bunny

Ok me and my cousin just did this, and I swear it works. I don't know if the screams are same for everyone, but we heard them clear. I have a video and will upload it later. Until now, please do not do this lol. It scared the crap out of me, and I never had a file that is titled ThisIsYourProblemNow.mp3 on my computer or anything. I will give the link tomorrow

People only say these stories are crap because they just want to make themselves feel better ;)

Here's another true account from another friend. We'll call him R. He lives in Sydney, Australia, in a suburb that was built where the original British settlers lived when they came here some 200 years ago. R. said there are many creepy things that used to go on in that house (He has since moved because of family issues). One particular phenomena was the recurring presence of an entity in the house.

Late at night, the family would often hear someone knocking at the door, only to open it and no one was there. This had happened a few times, and many would be quick to blame pranksters. But it got weirder than this. Whilst everyone was in bed, he would often hear footsteps coming from the kitchen downstairs. He could hear them resounding off the wooden floor. R. then went downstairs to see who was there, only to find that there was nothing. Many times before the footsteps came, he noticed that the lights in the house kept buzzing.

Another time, the entire family went out for the evening. They came back home to find something truly bizarre. All the crockery in the cupboards had been smashed or broken. The freaky part was, they sat behind glass doors which were left in tact and shut tight.

Perhaps the scariest situation he recalls was when he was a lot younger. His parents went out late one night and hired a babysitter to watch over him and his sister. She was putting them all to bed in the late hours of the night when they heard the footsteps coming from downstairs. Frightened, they locked the door and huddled in the bedroom together. They could hear the footsteps approaching through the hallway outside. Right on cue, the lights in the room started to buzz. The babysitter grabbed a nearby bat, prepared to take on whatever was approaching them. The footsteps came closer still, until they were almost outside the door. The babysitter braced herself and jumped outside the room and beheld... Nothing. Nothing at all. All the doors were still locked, there was nothing to be found. That was the last they heard all night.

I'm just gonna post this link in here too, this thread doesn't feel quite complete without it.

http://www.angelfire.com/trek/caver/page1.html

It's Ted's Caving Page.

Hungry_bunny

I read it all and HOLY CRAP is all I can say. Is there another site that is updated? I see that the last update was 5/19/01, and I really want to know the conclusion of the venture into the cave one last time. ARGH! I need closure

Dude, that was the closure... Dave never returned to finish the journal.

lol. Yeah. Welcome to the point of the story.

luccaface

I love that one. It's actually based on a short story called The Fear of Darkness by a guy named Thomas Lera. In my opinion, it works better as the web page. You can find the pdf online, but I won't post it because I'm not really sure about the legality of the link. Now that I think about it, I'm not even sure about the legality of Ted's caving page. Hopefully, Lera was the author of that as well.

And sorry if I ruined the illusion of realism.:P

Actually, I found that out yesterday after some research :P. I have the link to Thomas Lera's (1987-2004) short story too but I decided not to post it for the same reason.

Ted's caving page was written by three other horror writers, (don't know their names) who tried to give Fear of Darkness a "Blair Witch" feel. They did a pretty good job at that.

I'll be looking forward to that ;)

Seem to be a lot of mirror stories... Mirrors don't really bother me. Jandurin
I have to admit, sometimes when it's dark and I'm home alone I try to intentionally turn my eyes away from mirrors... just in case.

A Cuban farmer was hoeing his plot when he saw a short animal bounce across his field "No matter, probably just a deer." he said to himself, and kept on digging. The next day, the same animal hopped across the field, but closer this time. "No matter, the deer have found a food source and are going back to it." he said to himself. This continued for a few weeks until the creature would have been right infront of him. He rubbed the hand of his hoe and began digging, he had brought his trained neopolitan mastiff, Chiko, to watch out for him as he began dropping seeds into the ground. The man patted Chiko as he retired for the night.
That night, the farmer looked out his window and saw Chiko gnawing happily on a bone. "He's caught the damned deer" the farmer thought, closing his eyes and going to bed. The farmer awoke with an animal the size of Chiko with no hair or scales, nor feathers on top of him, one foot on either side of his chubby belly. It's huge eyes were yellow and it had fangs the size of his finger. It's batlike ears flicked as a small part of Chiko's ear stuck out of it's mouth. "Chubacabra!" he squealed as he pulled his covers over his face.

The cuban farmer never harvested his crop that year.

Once, there was a boy who loved to read. He read everything he could get his hands on, and loved going to his favorite book store. One day, the boy realized he had read everything the store had to offer. He confronted the owner, and asked him if he had anything the boy had never checked out. The owner said why, yes, i do, and pulled out an old, mysterious-looking book called "Death". The cover was covered in faded runes, and the book seemed to chill the very air surrounding it. He gladly sold it to the boy at a discounted price of $50. However, he warned the boy never to read the front page. Well, the boy returned to his house and read the book, and he was content. However, he always wondered what could be on that front page... it haunted him, and was always in the back of his mind. One day, the temptation was too much for the boy, and he flipped to the very front of the book, and dropped the book in horror. There, in bold print, was the MSRP: $7.99.
At least it wasn't a Fresh prince story :P
It would have been cool if the iTunes programmer had planted an Easter Egg :P. Still, I think you should have tried that alone... you don't want to piss off the maker of that mp3.

Wow, this thread gave me serious chills , and its only 8pm here (still light outside). I've read the caver story - took me a whole night to read it, I actually had to take breaks in between reading it, I got so unnerved.

Anyway, does anyone have any links or stories about, like, old haunted orphanages and stuff like that? I love all those folk tales. They creep me out

Also, this thread is one of the best in a long time. Thumbs up to threadstarter

A young girl is left home alone with only her dog to protect her. When night approaches, she locks all the doors and tries to lock all the windows but one won't close.

She decides to leave it unlocked and goes to bed. Her dog takes its customary place under her bed.

In the deep of night she awakens to a dripping sound coming from the bathroom. The girl is too scared to go check so she reaches her hand under the bed. She feels a reassuring lick from her dog and falls back to sleep. She reawakens to the dripping sound, reaches her hand down to the dog where she feels the reassuring lick and falls back to sleep. Once more she awakens to the dripping sound. She reaches her hand down and feels the lick of her dog.

Now curious about the dripping sound, she gets up and slowly walks towards the bathroom, the dripping sound getting louder as she approaches. She reaches the bathroom and turns on the light. She is greeted by a horrific sight; hanging from the shower nozzle is her dog with its throat slit open and its blood dripping into the bathtub.

Something on the bathroom mirror catches her eye she turns around. Written on the bathroom mirror in her dog's blood are the words "HUMANS CAN LICK TOO".

I've been skimming back from the early pages i missed (came in around Page 1 then 8/9) and uh I lol'd at this.

One time while I was eating at Wendy's I went to the bathroom, and I went into the closed stall. I shut the door, but you could still see a lot between the door and the platform thingy where the lock attaches to. Anyway, some guy was washing his hands when I went into the bathroom, but then he "had to go to the bathroom" again. The "stand up" stall was right next to the space where you could see into the door stall, and he kept staring at me. Then he washed his hands again, staring again, peeking, and I was scared as hell. I didn't know if he had any weapons or anything.

Then when I flushed the toilet he ran like hell out of there. Very odd experience.

And so it continues. Fine, if you're low on cash moooooney then try this.

If you ever find yourself in LA's Old China town, head into the square, past the statue of sun Yat-sen, past the hip-ultramod toy store called "Munky King" and look for an import store next to what used to be a wishing fountain. Go into this store ad head all the way straight back, you'll see a selection of weapons, Look for a weapon called a Jiujiebian, a sort of multi-sectioned whip. it MUST have exactly nine segments, no more, no less. This will be called the "chain of night" as of now, there are 48 notches in it's handle. It will cost you 29.95. Then after that, go outside and wait till dark, as the moon rises, take a quarter from your pocket and cast it at the wishing well. as it lands focus on that spot exactly and slowly chant under your breath: "by the circles of lao-tzu, the void inside of matter, I call forth the spirit that lingers here!" this phrase is best said in the original mandarin, but the spirit will understand a sincere supplicant regardless of language. A girl will step out of the bottom of the fountain, about nine years of age. She will ask you: "Where has my mother gone?" you must respond with: "She has long since gone from earth, but look to the sky, and see her there!"

this spirit is not that of a little girl, but of a bog-hag, cursed to obey this one command regardless of who says it. At this moment, you must attempt to strike the girl with your Newly Acquired Jiujiebian. She will then snarl and attempt to fight back. Should you win, all the money ever thrown into the fountain will await you. If you fail, all that the folks in Chinatown know is that a bloody Jiujiebian lies at the door of the import store with a notch in it's handle. To date, there are 48 notches in the handle.
