[QUOTE="Jandurin"][QUOTE="Dark-Sithious"]

so driving after smoking isn't particularly safe.

Dark-Sithious

Dude, the end point, as the other dude said, is that any driving is freaking unsafe. They should have a "Just say No" campaign for getting into cars, ever. :P

No jokes!

I'm in a hatefull mood, as I hate pot heads. And no, it's not projection.

So now you are generalising people on their habits? What if you met a 'pothead' and became good friends with them despite their habits?

Indeed.

And where I live it's really expensive, like 20 dollars for 1 gram, and strongly dislike when people waste their money on it.

You know the word pothead seems too harsh. I always preferred the term "casual smoker". I'll be upfront and admit that I do smoke, but unlike some people I know how to moderate my usage. I'm not addicted, and it has never clouded my judgment, and it never got into the way of my schooling or anything. If you abuse it, then that's your own fault. Sometimes pot isn't the problem. Sometimes it's the person using it.

You come across as being very eccentric in a very pointless way. i.e a way that makes you care about how people you've never met nor care about spend their time and lives. Which is just silly.. Hardly justification to hate them.

Don't expect a good answer asking people in forums about drug use. Most of them smoke it or have smoken it. I have not and I'm now in my senior year at the University. But the point is to not do somethiing just becuase someone else is doing it. I though of joining the crowd to fit in but then thought if I join and become someone I'm not then what is the point. You are trying to fit in in the mindset of someone who you arent. My advice is to stay true to who you really are. People will change for better or for worse and you might get isolated but to change for the sake of conforming to someone else is to lose who you really are.

I'm sorry to hear that you're becoming distant from your friends. Unfortunately it's basically the same way all over the country. It's somehow become part of teen culture to smoke pot and disengage from the world. The only thing I can really say is to find the people that still find more meaning in their lives. There are still plenty of people who don't sit around smoking pot all day.fidosim

There are?

Don't listen to the majority of this board. Smoking won't get you anywhere. Pot is an insidious drug, meaning that it's doing damage to your brain that you don't even know or feel. People who are pot smokers are spaced out and kind of like, as you said, a ghost of their former self. They're pretty stupid, and you don't want to be that way. The effects pot has on your body and the dangers of moving on to other drugs in addition to pot are all reasons to not start. Trust me, you'll be happy knowing that you didn't.

Hrm, I don't care for pot myself, but a good friend of mine uses it recreationally and has for about 20 years without moving on to other drugs. In fact, here in SF, I know A LOT of people who smoke pot fairly regularly and do no other drugs, even alcohol, and who are able to work and carry on social lives with no problems.

DARE is a joke. The program is not doing as well as it can. Maybe it can't. I think once people are juniors or seniors in high school they should teach them how to properly handle situations with all kinds of drugs. There are too many situations where people are hurt because they don't know what they are doing.

I agree. There should be a program that teaches the TRUTH about drugs, so that when kids try them (and a lot of them will), they won't do something stupid and hurt themselves. Rather than just saying "Drugs are bad, mmkay?" they should give some real information that could actually do some good.

I can't see how...someone earlier said that if it was a gateway drug, there would be more crack and heroin users than pot users, but that's wrong bc they would be doing these drugs in addition to pot. While there is no official study, no study has proven that it isn't a gateway drug as far as I know.

I think you've misworded your topic title. It should read "Not smoking pot has ruined my beginning of a teenage life.Nowadas, im practically alone" Your story is how you lost friends because you weren't smoking pot, not because you were.

Pot is as addictive as video games or TV. It has no physical addiction whatsoever, but can create a mental addictition. It is not the weed that makes the person addicted, it is the user who likes the feeling it gives. (Btw I am not a smoker ;))

Exactly. The DARE program at my school never taught us that nicotine is a mild stimulant. I honestly thought people only smoked cigarettes because they thought it "looked cool". Well I decided to try a cigarette just to see what it was like, and I got my first rush from a cigarette. I was blown away, and started to smoke a lot because I had never experienced anything like that before and had no idea that's what nicotine was, a stimulant. Well, I quit, but if the DARE program would have just been upfront and talked about the "positives" of cigarettes and stimulants. The rush you feel after a drag. I could have been informed and would have just decided it wasn't worth it, as I eventually did. DARE programs make being anti-drug so uncool that it had a negative effect in most of the highschoolers I've ever met. Don't even get me started on how they treat marijuana

How about the fact that you have literally an entire thread of people discussing pot and it's effects. I think if all these people were heroin addicts their posts would be a bit different. Of everyone I've ever known to smoke, I only know 3-4 who turned to hard drugs. I get the feeling they would have with or without ever smoking weed. It's the person, not the drug.

Pot isn't physically addictive. So its not the drugs fault.foxhound_fox

Not physically but psychologically it can be.

Either way, pot is not cause of the problem, its the individual.

I know a bunch of kids who smoke pot and I can hang out with them and have fun and i'm a sophmore in high school. They just don't smoke around me and my other non-smoking friends, but for some of them it has come to the point of getting high after school (well just a couple I personally know but there are plenty more). One of my friends was high during our MCAS test which is our state wide test.
