Its different from alcohol because anything with alcohol in it can be taken responsibly and when you take weed, thats it your high and whacked out for a couple of hours. It would be more dangerous for someone who just had weed to be driving than a guy who had beer. And it distracts people from more important than will effect the US in bigger ways. Personally I'm not the one who needs to take drugs to feel better, i find better and healthier ways to do that. ;)

I voted "No" on Proposition 19. To me, the bad outweighs the good. If Prop 19 passes, you'll have an entire wave of people driving high, partying high, and all sorts of other things you need a clear head for. If people drive drunk and party drunk, you can bet they'll drive high and party high. Kids can get ahold of alcohol with relative ease-- they'll be able to get ahold of marijuana with relative ease. Sorry, but pot is not the way to solve the state's financial problems.
MathMattS
do you know anything about marijuana and its affects compared to alcohol... apparently you don't. either do some research or don't type crapfilled misinformation.

I drink beer because I like the taste. I get no affect from the alcohol nor do I wish to get drunk.

 Really? Are you European? Ive yet to see or hear anyone drink beer because of the taste. Most people consume alcohol to get drunk.
Anyways, I voted yes on prop 19. the amount of $$$ made by the cartels is ridiculous and I'd like to see that money going to us instead.
i voted no on prop 19, and i did it without 1 shred of regret. Legalizing a drug that kills your grey cells, and makes you dumb and hungry is not a good way to jump start the economy. But i would rather legalize pot than elect Jerry Brown. Reckless spending and more debt here we come!

The majority of people who drink beer probably enjoy the taste. Why would you even bother drinking beer if you want to get drunk? You may as well be drinking those kiddie lolly water drinks. Hell if you want to get drunk, just do shots or snort some vodka.

it is the THC that kills brain cells. And after being around my sister, who has a Marijuana license, i have to say it's true. just last week she asked me how to spell crowded. No joke. And she wasn't loaded at the time. She's also ruined her lungs from it for so many years. As the Marijuana leaves burn, they break down into particles that are inhaled and create residue in your lungs. So she is always coughing and spitting up black stuff. nasty....

nice anecdotal evidence, very convincing... btw smoking anything is harmful to your lungs.
marijuana does not need to be smoked, many ways of ingesting it.
the link you showed me also shows how weak your arguement is. the link YOU gave me, nowhere does it list brain damage as a longterm affect.

 Again, i've made no attempt to argue with you. And i'm not saying you're dependant, but the fact you're so unreasonable and aggressive over a drug is an unnerving sight.. I have nothing to research, my view is do as you please with the drugs, if you have negative consequences, they're deserved.. if not, then great.. As the Marijuana leaves burn, they break down into particles that are inhaled and create residue in your lungs. So she is always coughing and spitting up black stuff. nasty....
-----No offense but your sister may just be dumb BEFORE she smoked rather than being affected by it. I know from experience that it doesn't make me dumber. People who are lazy and stupid after they smoke weed.....are usually lazy and stupid to begin with. The hard workers in society, the people who are organized, the people that keep themselves well-together are usually just that afterwards. I actually like being active when I'm stoned, and I know several people who play sports or do things when they smoke and it doesn't hinder their ability. It's ultimately individual reactions to marijuana. In fact I remember taking a test in class on 4/20 and having the second highest grade that day. (me being one of very few who were high that day) Why? Because I'm a good student before and after I get high.
----THC does not kill brain cells, but the carbon monoxide and lack of oxygen to the brain does the trick. Smoking anything in general is bad but people who hear about legalizing marijuana immediately group it with joints and smoking. That is not the only way to ingest marijuana, if handled medically it can be made into pills, it could be used as teas, oils etc.
----As far as it's legalization and accessibility, it doesn't mean that people will be driving around high and stoners will be everywhere. If it is properly regulated like alcohol is, then less kids would be able to get it. How easy is it for a 14 year old to walk into a liquor store and get beer? or even cigarettes for that matter. Legalization could mean less drug dealers as well as people in jail. We waste more money for jails and create more prisons then we do for schools. It's a huge waste of money to be busting people constantly for small possessions, cops are even tired of having to go through the same protocol for such matters. Decriminalization means less "criminals". Drug cartels are out of business and people who weren't criminals to begin with don't get jail time.
----Another expense that is eliminated are drug tests. These drug tests are more targeted for marijuana use rather than other drugs. Most drugs like ecstasy, acid and even coke are clean from your system within 2 days at most meaning the only drug largely affected by it is marijuana. Marijuana has actually been proven to have beneficial effects for people going through chemo, glaucoma, chronic pains due to accidents etc etc, go to nytimes.com and you'll actually find articles on the types of beneficial effects it has, there was a actually an article quite recently.
---- As for prop 19 itself, it may be flawed but does create a bridge to future improvements and more credibility for the issue if it is passed. Prohibition has never been a good thing, we should learn from our mistakes and correct them. Cigarettes and alcohol are much worse, even drugs prescribed to us by our own doctors may have more detrimental effects. Have you ever read the precautions and warnings on your pills? Those who oppose marijuana use just as easily avoid it, but to think that it is a horrible drug are misinformed and are victims of propaganda and the culture we were born with. A few hundred years ago we thought it was completely fine to own slaves but obviously today that isn't acceptable, we've grown out of that. I'm just saying do research, and validate your information and it's source.

You drink beer because you like the taste? How can you automatically assume no one wants to smoke because they like the smell/taste? I'm just as justified for calling your reason BS as you'd be for calling mine out. But I'm not going to call your reason BS, because it's legitimate. However, cannabis is more symmetrical in those terms (why people do it) with alcohol as opposed to being less symmetrical in terms of you trying to equate one beer with one joint? Please don't get inside people's heads on this thread with misinformation like that, and please know exactly what you're talking about before you talk about it. Smoking cannabis serves no purpose other than to be high? Basically. You don't smoke it just for the sake of smoking something. However, it seems you made that statement as if it had negative connotations attached to it, but I don't see literally how it's anything other than just a plain statement. People smoke to get high. Bingo, any arguments here? There is no argument that Prop 19 won't make money. New business outweighing lost business. And that's just about making additional money, I'm not even taking account the money saved by legalizing this. There is no argument that Prop 19 won't keep more people alive. Saved lives outweighing taken. Maybe little Jimmy will wander into a cannabis manufacturer and manage to be the first person in all of history to OD on this "dangerous drug" marijuana (though he'll need help smoking more pounds of marijuana after he safely passed out from being too high), but guess how many people aren't being shot and killed over something so stupid? Just for that reason alone should make any decent human realize how ridiculous this is. WhoTF has the standpoint of "Well, at least we're not giving a bad message to our kids, that balances out people DYING over a PLANT." But I invite anyone to try using that, negating the blatant fact this country has already been giving a far more detrimental message to our kids when we tell them how much more dangerous cannabis is. Because when kids learn that if you do an illegal drug like cannabis you'll chill out and laugh harder at a movie. This is after they learn that if they did a legal drug like alcohol, they might beat their kids. And we wonder why kids are so messed up. I smoke and I'm harmless. Cops know that and take advantage of trying to seek out and bust people like me while pretending that they didn't hear the police radio call of a shoot-out at a gas station, or robbery in a nearby neighborhood. Because it's easy, and it's safe. Our own policing of our own country isn't even satisfying their standard because of miniscule BS like this. Also, someone else on this thread mentioned they can't imagine a cop busting inside someones home just over them smoking pot. Wow. Do you know that I've read several stories of literally the SWAT busting inside someones home, killing their dog in front of their own kid (more mental damage and traumatic stress than any amount of pot smoking in front of the kid could EVER do. I'm attaining my BA in Psychology so please feel free to argue that point with me if you want.), and finding out that they didn't even smoke, much less sell or anything? One time they got the wrong house completely. Another, they didn't even realize it was the mayor of the town they were in. And these are all just the ones that involve "wrong house" and "killing family dog" (just for existing, mind you. Not being aggressive in any way, shape, or form). That's just a drop of water in a big pond of these cases happening every day. You can't imagine cops doing this because you're absolutely oblivious to it. When you're actively pursuing these type of stories, you're immensely overwhelmed at how absolutely ridiculous and mind-boggling all of this is. Over a plant. A plant that, when smoked, nothing bad happens. You can't drive if you're a 10 after drinking. You probably can't drive if you're a whole lot past a 5. But you can, however, still (even though I'm not condoning it, I just like how different it is from a dangerous drug like alcohol) drive even if you're ripped out of your skull from cannabis. And that's just if you're blazed. If you're just a casual high? Wow, well, I don't care how much truth is prone to hurt on these forums, but I feel just as safe driving high as sober. Driving buzzed on alcohol? Yeah, you can do it, but you're really pushing it. And my point about this wasn't about motor skills and driving, it was a point of saying if you're trashed on alcohol, *you will not function.* If you smoked 10 blunts? Guess what? You're ripped out of your mind, but could still pull off acting somewhat normal if you absolutely had to. Also, guess again? I've got even more points, because this is so stupid that there are obviously a million points going for it. Kids can get weed easier than alcohol at the present because of the laws. If it was legalized and therefore regulated, it would be just as hard to get as alcohol (which honestly still isn't that hard, but nothing you can do about it, and certainly not if you're keeping it unregulated). As said before on this thread, drug dealers don't I.D. The guy at the register does. If you want less kids to be smoking this plant, then you're actually for legalization and regulation, whether you're actually aware of it or not. As far as more people smoking and driving and crap because of it? Wow. You realize the legality of a substance doesn't correlate with whether someone is gonna be doing that or not, right? If John is someone who would like to get high to go to a party, guess what? He probably already has. Do you know what Jamie is doing if she thinks she can go and drive while high? She's probably out on the road right now. Sure, there is a mass of people who choose not to smoke because of the law, but would partake if changed. Well, these are also the kind of people who are probably not going to be driving high and getting into trouble after legalization if it was for the law in the first place that kept them ethically from doing it. Sorry this was long, late, unorganized and maybe a little unclear. But those were all points I wanted to throw out after reading every post in this thread. I'm so ashamed to live in a country with people so absolutely brainwashed. If you want to say anything about this, LOOK IT UP. And I don't mean just on the internet, I'm talking about your local library and college library database. It seems this is what a lot of people for Prop 19 have done, but clearly not a lot of those opposed. If you don't like any drugs because you live your life fine without them? That's great. I respect your lifestyle. If I don't smoke cigarettes because I don't want lung cancer, if I don't drink because I don't want liver failure, but if I consume cannabis because I live my life fine choosing to be high when I want to be? Then that's great too. Respect my lifestyle and the others like me, not inhibit it.Lmao!

Respect my lifestyle and the others like me, not inhibit it.As predicted there is no way in hell I'm reading that wall of text.
