Okay. It's this simple:

JUST LET THEM MARRY.

What is wrong with it? Why is this so hard? Why do we have to divide ourselves like this?

Santesyu

you clearly must have not been paying attention through out this whole time we was posting.

Does it look like I care? I just want the division to end. Just stop it already. We don't need this.

Just let them marry. Don't be scared. It won't hurt anyone. People won't die.

No, its not. Just and moral is a continuum that changes with the political tide. We cannot let our constitutional provisions be written off at the whim of liberal cryers or conservative evangelicals.

Are you saying that when politics changes over time, the idea of what is just and moral changes as well? Another question, do you always consider the law to be just and moral?

So how does OT feel about it? Looks like Prop 8 (Ban on gay marriage in California) is about to win with a 52% victory.

Constitutiion??????? What the hell are you talking about? This is how they want to live their life so just let them. How does it affect your life?

ALL GAYS HAVE YOUR MARRIAGES AND FORGET ABOUT THE STUPID PIECE OF PAPER THE GOVERNMENT GIVES YOU. Its about the symbol of the marriage not the legal piece of paper.

Not it is not. When my people are being subject to cruel and unusual punishment I protect them. I am the Constitution. When my people are being discriminated on the basis of race and gender I protect them. I am the Constitution. When my children are being indoctrinated into religion I protect and give them choice. I am the Constitution. When foreign invaders are at my door steps I raise the funds to protect my citizenry. I am the Constitution. When a tyrannical dictator attempts to subjugate my peoples I stop them. I am the Constitution. When the voice of my people are being stiffled I give them a microphone. I am the Constitution. When it is time to elect those that will uphold me I allowed my citizenry to vote. I am the Constitution. I AM the bulwark of our nation. I NEVER change. I NEVER peddle to the political banter of the day. I AM THE CONSTITUTION!

I sure am hatarade. I subscrube to the Scalia approach to the Constitution, "The document is dead as it can be". I never impose just or moral onto the law. I consider it holistic in nature.

Right now I am debating rather I want to repeat myself but I have decided against it really I spend a whole 3 hours on this topic, I am gonna watch the rest of kings and queens and reno 911 on tv to enjoy myself and eat but I will say this. The definition of marriage should not be changed, and marriage has never took away gay "rights". The people voted even gays torwards prop 8 and the people have spoken in what they want to do which is, too not change the definition of marriage even if it is to favor gays period. Anyway, I am gonna finish watching some of my favorite shows on tv atm everyone good debate and continue to debate hard.- Santesyu

Good to know americans care more about their beliefs in which nothing hurts or even affects them, over happiness. I spit on every person who voted yes to ban gay marriage.

Gays are not allowed to get married. Straight people are. Are gays and straight treated equal?

So just because the people voted on not changing the definition of marriage that means that gays and straight are not treated as equals?

Because people voted to change the definition of marriage as to exclude same-sex couples when it formerly included them...

Absolutely they aren't being treated as equals.

Okay. It's this simple:

JUST LET THEM MARRY.

What is wrong with it? Why is this so hard? Why do we have to divide ourselves like this?

Santesyu

you clearly must have not been paying attention through out this whole time we was posting.

Its hard to read through 8 pages of crap flinging. It really would save alot of time and money. I mean how would gays getting married hurt you in any way?

Would it hurt me physcial? no would it hurt me mentally? Its just the point is it acceptable and I would say no.

So you'd let your beliefs get in the way of something that doesn't harm you and makes others happy?

What, what am I suppose to say VOTE YES!!!!!!!!!!! ...pttf no, I voted what I believed in and that was the outcome with many others aswell.. simple as that.

In other words yes?

I voted on, to not change the definition of marriage, simple as that. That is not taking away gay rights.

Yeah, what did you think it meant?

excatly what you just said, what did you think I meant? And if not changing the definition of marriage means taking away gay rights then I havet to say "prop 8" for the people by the people.

And Like I said, if everything was voted on, how different would america be?

Imagine that, the majority voting against a minority group. Who would of thought...

[QUOTE="Rikusaki"]Yes it is. Martin Luther King Jr. believed this and if it wern't for him breaking unjust laws, things would be very different right now. Vandalvideo

I can just imagine Gerald Butler shouting all that in a new film, appropriately named, "The Constitution", about a oft misused piece of paper, voiced by Mr. Butler, decides to take the law into his own hands, with guns (thank you Amendments) and explosions galore.

As a Californian, I am deeply dissapointed in the passing of prop 8. But on the bright side, it barely passed with 52% of the vote. In addition, I believe a lot of people only voted yes because they believed the lies of the Yes on 8 campaign and thought it would affect their children's education. I think that whithin the next 4 to 8 years, most Californians will be in favor of legalizing gay marriage.

And what of the No on 8 campaign? Both campaigns stretched the truth in commercials. Don't single out the Yes on Prop 8 campaign.

[QUOTE="Santesyu"][QUOTE="comp_atkins"][QUOTE="Santesyu"][QUOTE="comp_atkins"]

do you have the scientific data to prove that?

comp_atkins

thus now the science conversation comes to play.

well you say with such certainty it is a choice. so now you have to proove it.

I am not going to even bother proving something that is true, and even if when I do prove it its just going to get denied over and over again, do you know why? Because what we believe of whats right on this situation is very different.

fail

 Well done Mr. Atkins.

I honestly think the only reason it will pass is because at least 2-4% of the voters picked "yes" when they should have picked "no". If you don't follow politics very closely you would probably assume "yes" means "yes, keep gay marriage legal".

According to you -- maybe. Others? Maybe not. You can't dictate what's wrong and what's right.

Edit: Wait, are you talking about morals... or in terms of accuracy in what the campaigns were ... well, "campaigning"?

Imo, the Yes on 8 campaign was worse. They flat out claimed that kids undeniably 100% would be taught about gay marriage in schools, and they only used 1 example of 1 couple to make that claim. Then they talked about how some kids were taken to see a lesbian wedding, conviniently ommiting the fact that every one of those kids' parents signed a permission slip to go on that fieldtrip. They also claimed that voting no on 8 was a threat to religious freedom, which is also not true. Imo, they used a lot of lies and dirty tactics to hit people where it hurts: their kids.

Not a chance in hell. History has a progression towards egalitarian and liberty. Anti-gay rights will be equivalent to pro-slavery in future (in ideology, probably not in practicality). Sometimes you have to look at an issue not as what you prefer, but what is right.

Believe whatever you so please -- both campaigns stretched the truth (Which is basic Politics 101 ;)). I personally think the majority of people who voted yes (including myself, btw) was because of tradition -- what they were raised and taught, and what they believe to be what marriages symbolize.

Either way, it was pretty split. And geographically... it was pretty obvious who would be voting no on prop 8 and yes on prop 8. And the districts show that.

Try to avoid the straw man arguments in future. ;)

Yes on Prop 8 presented commercials to sway voters. Yet the No on Prop 8 wasn't wrong for doing so?
