I get it. They are saying, "although the Crusades may have ended officially years ago...The battle is still ongoing and the British monarchy is a leader." Personally, I don't know what to say to this. I mean, it was the Church that started the Crusades and the troops were Germanic mercenaries. Maybe they're right. BranKetra

Their idiots.. Great Britian broke with the Catholic church in the 16th century.. They became hostile with Catholic states.. The Catholic Church under the Papacy is what called for the crusades.. There is no way in hell the royal family of today has nothing in common with monarchs like Richard the Lionheart.. Richard didn't even speak old english he spoke French!

Englands been colonized by Saxons, Normans and Franks, and vice versa. At one point English controlled almost half of what is now France. But like the previous guy said they probably considered themselves Frankish not English.

Most people focus on Henry's desire to divorce for creating his own church. The main reason was real estate and money. Once he kicked the Roman Catholics out he gained all the profit from those churches and whatever real estate they owned.

The current woes of the Middle East by foriegn infringement have little to nothing to do with Christianity.. They were for secular reasons of imperialism.. The only remotely religious based one you could make a partial argument was Great Britians support of a Jewish state.. But even then Zionism wasn't a religious movement so much as a secular labor movement.

Actually the main reason why he wanted a divorce is because of his brides being incapable of concieving a male child for the throne.

This is just idiotic, the royal family have no real religous or political value. markop2003

I think it's because they are opposed to Prince William and Prince Harry's military service. Although only Harry served in Afghanistan.

I know that but people think thats the only reason he wanted to split from the RCC.

When I took history years back our prof at the time showed a map of england at the time and all the land owned by the catholic church. It was a huge portion of the map. Once Henry took over it was all his Church property.

Oh there is no doubt about that too, that was most certainly one of the reasons but it was really not the main reason.. And in the end he never had a son, and it went to Elizabeth.. Which the whole Spanish Armada saga came into being because of the Catholic states seeing her as a illigitmate ruler.

It's unfortunate that western Europe wasn't unified during the time of the Crusades we wouldn't be having these problems now.

Skarwolf

You do understand that the Middle East was responsible for safe guarding all the great works of the Roman/Greek ages during that time right? Hell the Muslims during the Middle ages were far more open minded and free thinkers than ANYONE in Europe. Having the Europeans wipe them out during the crusades would have been outright terrible and possibly stunted scientific thinking and free thought for centuries longer.

Yeah people don't realize that the Ottoman Empire in the 1500s to the end of the 1700s was one of the most powerful states in the world.. The Crusades also benefited Christians alot by returing Crusaders bringing teachings, written work, spices etc etc from the region that helped advance the place.. The fact of the matter is religion is merely a characteristic of the region, it is the not the factor that has changed it to what it is today.. Hell during the late 1800s, to mid 1900s.. Many of the Middle Eastern states were becoming secular as well as a growth in labor movements.

The Muslim world had something called a "golden age" while Europe was too busy rolling around in **** and killing each other for a couple centuries. While the Christians were busy burning books and killing people at every corner the Muslims were the center of the Scientific frontier. I would definitely call that "free thought" when you compare both of them.

If anything Christians are to blame to for the problems in the middle east.

Christians don't teach the people in their masses to go blow themselves up and as a reward they'll goto heaven and get 13 virgins.

Neither do 98% of Muslims.

Christians don't kill their daughters for becoming too much of something, or for dating someone they didn't arrange.

See above response

Christians don't react violently to questions regarding their faith.

See above

Christianity separated Church & State in the MEDIEVAL ERA, Islam has never progressed beyond that time period.

Learn your history. Religion was still influential in many governments until well into the 1800's...not like "christianity" is a ludicrously broad term or anything. Also, learn a bit about Turkey, which even though it is a secular state(trust me I think political Islam is evil as all hell) is predominately Muslim.

All the money in the middle east comes from Christians.

Utterly irrelevent, and untrue.

The only problem is that your dbag dictators don't invest into any infrastructure they pocket it all.

Christian dictators in Africa exist(ed).

The common people are poor, and uneducated so all they have is religion.

Like in America....the same people who tend to hate Muslims. Fancy that :)

I don't know why I waste time with bigots. It's a bad habit of mine :?

Are you implying that Europeans introduced Christianity to the Middle East?

How did you get that impression? I said thatChristians(those who practice christianity) not Christianity itself was responsible. Those who screwed up the middle east happened to be Christian, they were not motivated to preform the screwing by their religion. I made my earlier point to try to explain that Islam does not inherently lead to failed governments.

Christians don't teach the people in their masses to go blow themselves up and as a reward they'll goto heaven and get 13 virgins.

Christians don't kill their daughters for becoming too much of something, or for dating someone they didn't arrange.

Christians don't react violently to questions regarding their faith.

All the money in the middle east comes from Christians. The only problem is that your dbag dictators don't invest into any infrastructure they pocket it all. The common people are poor, and uneducated so all they have is religion.

There are extremist Muslims and extremist Christians. The only reason that there are slightly more Muslim extremists is because they have experienced first hand grivances at the hand of Christians, while Christain extremists base their bigotry solely on the fact that they were riased that way, in other words, they have no actual reason to be bigots. And what is with your point that Christians don't react violently towards those who question their faith? lol. regardless, there is a very small percentage of Muslims that are extremists. And what's with all this "your dictator" BS? I'm American. Why the hell would you think I am from some Middle eastern nation? Because I am trying to rebutt bigotry? Yeah uh no. In any case, the belief is in 72 virgins, not 13.

Westerners like to think their civilization is superior to every other on earth. When settlers first set foot in Tenochtitlan it made the largest and most advanced European city look like a slum. It was more than twice the size of the largest European city, and they had advanced building andplumbing techniques, while Europeans were living in comparative filth. Then in walks Cortés and levels the city because it was built by an "inferior" culture. Groups like this Muslim one would be fewer and further between if westerners didn't have such an aggrandized opinion of themselves and gave credit where credit was due every once in a while. Hell, the Enlightenment might never have even happened were it not for the spread of ancient Greek and Roman works back from Middle Eastern countries.

Interesting how they say "His best man is a Nazi". I thought Islamic morons like these approved of the Nazi regime since all they do is go around shouting death to Israel. It really is suprising to see how stupid these people are. They live in a first world country, have access to the same information that anyone else around the world has and should be able to make informed decisions yet instead "DERP DERP DEATH TO THE INFIDELS DERP DERP".

I am a Muslim, and most of the Muslims i know are really really peaceful guys too. There are always a few troublemakers every where, but i agree there are a few more here, and hey, that doesn't mean you screw the good guys too does it?

And really, the first few posts offended me, seriously guys..stop hating. Learn the difference between extremists and Islam. Did you know any person said to kill another is said to have killed all of humanity, in Islam? And that it is considered the most serious of sins?

And to the guy saying we don't treat women equally, i do..and so do the other Muslims i know. It's just some of them fail to interpret what Islam wants us to do, and thus they form an extreme image. Women and men are equal, i say that while being a Muslim. Just because a few guys do it doesn't mean you highlight it and then blame each and every Muslim for it. Here, watch this too, it will hopefully clear up your misconceptions about the role and position of women in Islam.

I think most people (that actually think seriously on the issue) realize that not all Muslims share the sentiments as extremists/terrorists.

I do have a bit of an issue with the last part of your statement though. I don't doubt that many, many Muslims believe that men and women are equal. However, you seem to imply that Islamic nations as a whole treat their women basically the same as western nations. This is where I begin to disagree with you. Women being lashed (at times to death) and being stoned to death for "adultory" after being victims of rape are NOT isolated incidents. These kinds of sentences are handed out by the court system. They are condoned by the state. I'm sure there are a lot of citizens of many of these countries that aren't happy about it, but that doesn't change the facts. Women most definitely are treated poorly in the Islamic world as a whole (in my opinion).

Uh...wow, u need to take history 101, Muslims controlled Jerusalem and the surrounding areas prior to the crusades. The Christians were the aggressors, the pope, going against religious texts, declared war on Muslims and said that anybody who kills in the name of god will be forgiven. So Naturally the crusaders raped and pillaged every innocent unassociated with the war on their way to Israel, and then brutally murdered tons of muslims not part of the muslim army upon arrival and during occupation, while muslims by contrast treated their prisoners, including soildiers very well.

The christians were by not even the most mindnumbing stretch, the good guys.

It's a little late to be doing anything about the Crusades, don't you think?

Off topic, but "poppy burning"? Why is burning flowers so offensive?Darkwanderer000

Rememberance Day.

This is one thing that really gets on my nerves. Go and moan about it in your own country, by all means. Don't come to mine and start ranting about our beliefs, traditions, occasions... what have you. It's a group of people who've been starved of attention, giving the rest of their religion a bad name. Maybe this time, they'll get more than a fine...

Uh...wow, u need to take history 101, Muslims controlled Jerusalem and the surrounding areas prior to the crusades. I feel like Islam promotes violence.

With-Hatred

Does the religion promote violence or do a small number of people within the religion promote violence?

The religion does, I don't see these levels of violence from christians for example.

Islam is no more violent than christanity is.

I wish you'd speak out against these "few, insignificant" troublemakers as you do against these few, insignificant haters.

In some states, yes. Not in all. UAE, Pakistan (yes there are terrorists, but women are treated equally, believe me ;) ), and Libya, Egypt, Palestine. These places may look bad to the outside world (maybe the are too, except for UAE) but they treat their women equally. I am not saying all of them treat them equally, but hey. I admit though, change is required.

EDIT: Sorry LOL posted without typing anything.

Yeah i do not approve of those troublemakers..they are not few or insginifacnt anymore and such people can be declared non Muslims easily (really, study Islam and you'll find it promotes peace). These people are making the lives of people harder and giving Muslims a bad name and Islam a bad image. They offend me more than a few GS OTers do, because they are the source of all this. I just wished for the posters to understand that instead of hating on all, hate on the people who are doing this. They call themselves warriors in the name of Islam, when they are not. They are barbarians..criminals. Savages.

Yes the Muslims controlled it because they took it.....to quote...The specific crusades to restore Christian control of the Holy Land were fought over a period of nearly 200 years, between 1095 and 1291. Note the words restore control.
