ok, i was posting on gamefaqs (probably a big mistkae right there) and when i ask a qustion or comment or anything, sometimes people respond with insulting things, one of which is like "women belong in the kitchen" and that i should always be in the kitchen

where did that stuipd ideology originate from? that is so wrong, ugh; this is a dumb way of thinking, absurd

i find that a bit insulting that they would think i have to always be in the kitchen seriously

where did this trend orginate?

inb4sexistjokes. And KittyHeart, I hope that laptop you are using is in the Kitchen! Just playing :P, and I think the majority of people on gamefaqs and online are kidding and just poking fun. Only a select few are actually that sexist.

Well throughout history women have been thought to be lower than men in intelligence and all...they are probably joking though now. Not many who still think women are less intelligent than men. Now that I have given you an answer, make me a sammich! :P Oh and I forgot to mention that resulting from that...(insert what Ace_Wonder said)

Because in the mid-1900s, women weren't expected to work jobs, instead maintain the home and take care of children.

1950s Americana was basically where the man went to work and the woman stayed home to take care of the kids and cook. People of that era might think that's the way it should be, but I think people today say it as a joke.

Because thats how women can feed their children while the men make money for the food, shelter, etc. Well that's the way its been since the dawn of man. Things have only changed within the past 100 years.

Well, throughout history and even in many parts of the world today women have been considered lower than men :(. It is sad but in most of the western influenced world now that is not the case anymore and women can do anything. Look to places like the middle east, africa, parts of asia and you will see that this ideology is still very much alive.

It comes from the ancient and outdated notion; that women should be subserviant maids.

Not totally 100%, there have definentily been some societies/religions that give women equal rights..although that is not always followed and is "changed", but the original beliefs say about women being equal. Such as the Koran, Muhammad's original followers were mostly women because of the ideals told to him. Also Buddhism called for equality, but that wasn't as much as the Koran called for...

You know when people say things over the internet you really shouldn't be taking it seriously :| And back then woman were always in the kitchen and doing other "women" work like laundry and stuff. They also didn't have any say in things :| Havnt you taken any history classes? They should have explained to you all about this. >_>

i actually find it quite fair, in old times women just wrent fit for doing the hard jobs so the least they could honestly do was staying home, cooking and cleaning... but with the whole new years and stuff now women wanna be exactly like men, when its impossible for women to do the same things men CAN do while it is also impossible for men to do the things women CAN do so yeah...

People say it because that is the way it has been for the last 10,000 years. Women generally tended to the children and the house while men did other forms of labor to get money. Usually the women worked in some way, but in the 1900s they began to stop working and worked only in the house and with the children. We are in a transition period right now to something that hasn't been seen in the history of the world, a society where women are equal to men. it isn't here yet, but we are changing.

Basically like this.. This is why I always chuckle about when people say marriage isn't what it use to be (in a bad way).. Yeah clearly it was better when women were arranged marriages by their fathers and husbands.. Being more or less property for poltiical and economic gain.. Having no rights in western culture for the most part through out history.. The sad thing is alot of people I have seen in the United States still believe the woman should be a house wife always..

problably from the fact that, before women were allowed to work, women occupied the kitchens of their homes.

Its just history, nothing wrong with it, and when people say "Get back in the kitchen" its a joking reference to earlier times.

In nature, the men go out and work (male lions hunting, for example), while the women (with humans, the women have the children, breastfeed the children, etc) so in the 1930s - 1950s this extended to everything: chores/kids are the womens job, work is the mens job. It's outdated and is more of a stereotype, often used in a humorous way. The basis makes sense though: the women are the ones who aren't as physically strong, are the ones who get pregnant and have breasts, so it makes more sense for them to stay home with the kids. The men are physically stronger so its more naturally for them to be out "hunting". Though that's obviously not the case anymore.

Here's a horrible joke I stole from Charles Barkley:

Why doesn't a woman need to wear a watch?
Because there's a clock on the stove
To anser your question, I guess it comes from the idea that women are to supposed to be homemakers and that's it.

It's just a joke for the most part...a lame joke but a joke. Pretty sure it comes from the "olden days" of how women were the ones who stayed at home and did the cooking. A lot of the women around where I live still do most if not all of the cooking.

I'm a girl and I personally find it hilarious. It's just about not taking it too serious, it's just a joke. if it's out of context, like "Hi my name is____, I'm a ___ year old girl" "Go back to the kitchen where you belong, woman", then that's just rude, but otherwise it's not a big deal.

From a very long time ago...

Back when women would be beaten horribly or accused to be working with the forces of Satan for even asking such questions.

So yeah... ahem. Dont question it, accept it.

I'm joking.
