[QUOTE="Guybrush_3"]

[QUOTE="Laihendi"] The FDA is a corrupt organization that only functions to establish monopolies in the food/drug industries. It is also extremely dangerous for the government to have the power to control what substances you are allowed to put in your body. In the future that could be used as a weapon to control people, especially dissent. For example there is much evidence indicating that fluoride in the water supply is resulting in Americans becoming increasingly stupid. This makes them easier to manipulate with msm and government propaganda and makes them vote for whoever and whatever they want.Laihendi

And here is where I get to jump and and call bullshit. The recently published paper that people are using as "evidence" against fluorinating tap water is this paper by Harvard's school of public health. Well unlike most people touting this paper as a reason we should stop putting fluoride in water, I actually read the damn thing. Yes, the study data does seem to suggest that high levels of fluoride in water decreases IQ levels, BUT what is considered a high level of fluoride in this paper  is close to 10 times the amount of fluoride that is found in water here. In the words of my pharmacology professor, "dose is everything." Water itself is toxic at high enough levels, and the most potent toxin known to man (botulinum toxin) has multiple medical uses at very low doses. In this instance fluoride is toxic in doses considerably higher than what children in the US are getting.

1. I am talking about fluoridated water, not fluorinated water.

2. fluoride accumulates in glands/tissue over time.

3. This. Your study is absurd.

4. This.

5. This - Fluoride is especially dangerous for babies because they are taking in a disproportionately large dosage in relation to their body size. Also people who drink a lot of water, such as diabetics, will be consuming a much larger quantity of fluoride as well.

There is simply no reason to force people to ingest fluoride. There is no definitive answer as to whether it is safe or not, and that fact plus the fact that the government is forcing people to ingest it anyways indicates that there is a motive that is being kept secret.

1. Both refer to the addition of fluoride anions to water.  Don't be an asshat.

2. Sourceless.  Such an accumulation is 100% dependent on concentration.  If our body is capable of processing fluoride in even the smallest, most inefficient way, then accumulation is a question of whether input overwhelms output or output overwhelms input.  Please cite a reliable study, establishing the rate at which humans process fluoride and establishing the minimum water concentration at which the average person would begin to see accumulation.  Further establish that that minimum concentration is the concentration that the United States is adding to their water through the process of fluoridation.  Put up or (here's hoping) shut up.

3. The Harvard study was a meta-study focusing on Chinese children, exposed to high levels of fluoride naturally present in groundwater.  Every study dealt with concentrations well above the USDA recommended concentration of 0.7g/mL.  Note that the USDA maximum tolerated concentration of 4g/mL (I think it's 4) has abso-f**king-lutely NOTHING to do with your conspiracy theory.  When we fluoridate our water, we fluoridate it to 0.7g/mL or there about.  That we consider naturally occuring fluoride acceptable in higher concentrations is not relevant because if the U.S. were using fluoride as a mind control device, they would have to fluoridate water in concentrations high enough to affect neural development.

4. Yeah, no shit fluoride is dangerous in and of itself, but in low concentrations, it's not.  Remember, dose is everything.  I know for a fact that fluoride is an incredibly dangerous, incredibly reactive substance that is potentially deadly, but I willfully consume it in water every day because in the right concentrations, it is harmless.

5. This is related to tooth development.  Are you suggesting the government is dumbing people down by damaging their teeth?

Reason for fluoridation:

http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/rr5014a1.htm

"Widespread use of fluoride has been a major factor in the decline in the prevalence and severity of dental caries (i.e., tooth decay) in the United States and other economically developed countries. When used appropriately, fluoride is both safe and effective in preventing and controlling dental caries."

Should we study the effects of fluoridation more?  Absolutely.  It's a dangerous substance and we need to make sure it is being used correctly and safely.  Is there even a tiny shred of evidence to suggest it is being implemented as a mind control device?  No.  Sorry, but you can't just talk out of your ass like you usually do.  This is science and the great thing about science is the evidence is either there or it is not and in this case it's not.  Try again (or don't).

[QUOTE="Laihendi"] FDR is probably the most corrupt president in US history - look at the massive human rights violations of the New Deal. He also provoked Japan into bombing Pearl Harbour, which led to the senseless deaths of 2,402 Americans just so he could use the event for war propaganda. This kind of government corruption seems like a reason to be against technocracy (or any form of authoritarianism) and for libertarianism. The less the government imposes itself on us, the less it is possible for us to be victims of criminals like Obama.DaBrainz

FDR expanded the federal government more than anyone before, he put in place a quasi-technocratic cabnet and he efficiently handeled ww2.

He is the best a democracy can hope for.

Japanese internment camps. People always seem to glaze over that one.

You seem to miss my point...

Never did i say he was infallible, i think he was a mediocre leader at best.

All democracy can produce is mediocrity (if it's lucky).
