Metal is garbage. Just people growling about worshiping satan and no catchy beats or hooks.

Rap is "Look at all the expensive things I can afford." Do you really think it's any better?

I think the best music is classical and orchestral. And do you know where metal comes from? I'm not trying to intimidate you or anything, but alot of people don't know what the origin of metal is.

I hate metal, and i luv rap, but right now i have to agree with your first statement. Everything you said is true. Sure there are the few rappers who are actually...rappers, but the majority of "rap" we listen to nowadays falls perfectly into your description.

Exactly what I was thinking. Neil Peart is a genius.

RushMetallica

Genius =/= Good music.

Einstein was a genius, but there's no way in hell I'm going to listen to Einstein music.

Do you even know who Neil Peart is? If you did you would agree that he is, in fact, a musical genius/god. The things he can do on a drumset will knock your socks off... and then light your socks on fire.

Also rap sucks. It's all the same 4 measures repeated over and over for 3 minutes.

Same can be said for most rock/metal. It's just the same chords over and over, save for the solos if there are any.

Not Opeth, Dream Theater, etc. And, I think songs can repeat parts, that's what a songs is, but it can still be good.

I never said it was accurate in any way shape or form... :| If one is going to use generalizations against a specific type of music then I'm going to counter with another generalization. :|

The second part was really aimed towards the other guy FalcoLX

I know songs repeat themselves, but rap is, by far, more repetitive than any other genre. Same goes with almost any kind of pop music.

No. The stuff he listed is, and most people with a shallow understanding of music tend to fall in with that mainstream crap, but certainly not all rap is so meaningless.

Aight then for y'all with your "good hip hop" what makes it so great? Because some rappers that USE to be poor but now they are rich and live in big homes repeat the same lyrics over and over about how they grew up? Yawn.

Please no....you don't know good hip hop, and HAHAHHAHAHHAHAHA @ Lil Wayne being a good if you could call him an "artist". Good hip hop is old hip hop...there is no music that it is "where it's at"...most are comming out with worse and worse music.

Your so called "good hip hop" is overrated boringness. What makes it good? Lyrics? Lyrics are THE most overrated thing ever. Who says most people wanna listen to someone elses life story? Most people want lyrics about beer, drugs, and sex. Something most people can relate to. Not a boring beat with someone saying they grew up tough.

:|. Hip hop is a type of poetry, and in poetry it is spposed to be about lyrics, they should make you see what is happening in your mind, you should be able to relate to it or teach you good morals...and if it is about sex, beer and drugs, I wouldn't care too much as long as it is good lyrics.../face palm.

Greatgone12

gotta agree. While "rap" is topping the charts, it's losing it's street origins and becoming more pop. Take a look at Whatever you like by T.I. Boy that's a mainstream song.

In terms of popularity-hip hop is outstanding

In terms of the quality of the music being produced-well it's certainly not in good shape

Except for Ludacris and Kanye West, and Ye is decent at best, most of those rappers are only average to above average. Try guys like Nas, Eminem (try No Apologies, Lose Yourself, The Way I Am, Stan), Saigon, Obie Trice, Jay-Z, A Tribe Called Quest, 2Pac, Binary Star, Biggie, Lupe Fiasco, and Beastie Boys.

Lil Wayne is good (I did like I feel Like Dyin'), but he's starting to fall off a bit with Tha Carter III (autotuning his voice just killed the album for me, and yes I think that Tha Carter II is better). TI is good with Trap Muzic, Live in the Sky from King was dope, but TI vs. TIP was just mediocre. Can't comment on Papertrail yet.

Ive lost too much respect for rap. I cant even listen to 2pac or Biggie anymore. Its very negative music and you learn nothing from it. Also copying beats and not even using real instrument can hardly be called a musician. Just pure dumb entertainment of BSing little cry babies. Aside from Ludacris and maybe Kanye, I can't respect anyone else you listed as musicians.

It's depressing on how shallow rap has become now. Really it just feels like it has no soul in its music anymore.

It kills me to say that cause I used to love rap.

Music was made to have catchy beats and be something to dance or sing to. Everything from Elvis to Snoop Dogg. So yes if the beat is great then that can make it a good song.

You take the most bland, generic artists and say that they're great.

You reject everyone else's music, which is better than yours.

You claim that all people want to hear is lyrics about booze and sex.

Sorry you say you have fallen into the trend.

My first tunes were the fat boys the people from the disorderlys 80s comedy movie, it was a rap tape i found at a beach lol when i was a kid...then i started listening to guns n roses then that got me into metallica and then pantera/anthrax.

metal is my type of music and been that for 20 some years....some rap is alright the old school...but these new rappers sucks.

So if you havea good beat then that means you have a good rap song. :|

I think Lupe's beats are fine. And yes if the person's arguement, just like yours, can and seems like a joke.

Music was made to have catchy beats and be something to dance or sing to. Everything from Elvis to Snoop Dogg. So yes if the beat is great then that can make it a good song.

That is true.

But your also forgetting that music is also used to send a message. Your obviously not hearing what Lupe is trying to say.

I can understand someone not liking Lupe but for saying just for his beats. Like many would say, your just plain wack.

[QUOTE="GodLovesDead"]Rap is garbage. All gangsters rapping about hoes, no melody or composition. CrimzonTide
No. The stuff he listed is, and most people with a shallow understanding of music tend to fall in with that mainstream crap, but certainly not all rap is so meaningless.

Don't worry, I wasn't being serious - just mocking his ignorant generalizations. I acknowledge there's good rap out there. But all the popular crap music right now is utilizing rap.

[QUOTE="GodLovesDead"]Rap is where the shallow, stupid, boring pop music is. The good music is in metal.xboxplayer1990

Metal is garbage. Just people growling about worshiping satan and no catchy beats or hooks.

Bad generalization is bad.

I'm afraid that for there to be a future for music, you need music, not noise.
