So provide some concrete evidence that my opinions are skewed.  We all know I could google up a half dozen rap lyric sheets that would get me banned for life, I invite you to post ONE that you would consider worth listening to that is socially acceptable by the standards offered in teh TOS of this forum.

Not argue, not flame, debate.

You made a point? I call that talking out of your ***. Haven't you realized that any other genres have bad influences as well?

I don't belive this thread is about ALL music now is it? If I recall correctly it's about the decline in sales for rap music. To which I expressed support because in my opinion rap sucks. An opinion I have yet to see a counter point to other than "OMG YUR WRONG CUZ I SAY SO!!1". So if I'm wrong and there is clean, talented rap out there that doesn't enforce a negative stereotype I invite you to post some as well and prove me wrong.

first you say you made a point to be disproven, then you admit that what you said was just your opinion. nobody can disprove your opinion, because it is not fact.

Thank you. Whether this topic is about just rap or all music, you've assumed that ALL of a Genre (rap) is bad. Even if you are half as dumb as I think you are, you should know that whether you've heard it or not there is good rap. And who's counting here? Other posters have been posting artists and lyrics.

More insults, no counter points. So far my point remains valid due to a distinct lack of contradictory evidence.

[QUOTE="Master_Greedo"]He could also try some Christian Rap like TobyMac or KJ-52. Or the Beastie Boys, although none of their songs are really that deep... Tupac "Changes" isn't too "vulgar". But it looks hopeless for this guy to contemplate that Rap music could be good. The best rapper of all time (IMO) is Immortal Technique, and he swears like a mutha******. But his raps are probably the smartest in the whole industry. Besides, he's underground and staying that way, and that makes the cake all the more sweeter.dhyce

Immortal Technique is my favorite as well! Haha

Plus, Sage Francis, Edan, and Aesop Rock do plenty of unvulgar stuff as well, I'm pretty sure MF Doom does plenty as well, heck, I'm probably missing a whole bunch.

Are you even reading previous posts Comorat? People have already posted evidence that proves you WRONG, yet you pretend like it isn't there.....

[Verse 1]
First got it when he was six
Didn't know any tricks
Matter of fact first time he got on it he slipped
Landed on his hip
And bust his lip
For a week he had to talk with a lisp
Like THISSSSS
Now we can end the story right here
But shorty didn't quit there was something in the air
Yea, he said it was something so appealing
He couldn't fight the feeling
Something about it
He knew he couldn't doubt it
Couldn't understand it
Brand it, just the first kickflip he land it
Uh, labeled a misfit, a bandit
Kakunk Kakunk Kakunk!
His neighbors couldn't stand it so
He was banished to the park
Started in the morning wouldn't stop 'til after dark
Yea, when they said, "It's getting late in here..
...so I'm sorry young man there's no skating here"

[Chorus]
And so he kick, push, kick, push, kick, push, kick, push, coast
And away he rolled
Just a rebel to the world with no place to go
And so he kick, push, kick, push, kick, push, kick, push, coast
So come and skate with me
Just a rebel
Looking for a place to be
So let's kick...and push...and coast    -Lupe Fiasco

rapping about skateboarding.

anyway, people used your tired argument that joyce's ulysses was pornographic, filthy and had no redeeming social value to justify banning it in the US, which it was for some time. one of the greatest modern novels was banned over people spouting bull like you are right now.

[QUOTE="Comorat"] Come on, I'm opening this up for creative debate and all you people want to do is argue. Broaden your minds.

Sorry this took a little while, I've been doing a few other things but I'm squeezing in some time to do this too; here's one from Edan, it's a tad cheeky but it's definitely "anti-vulgar." ... of the brain pain I came With the sell-a-lot plot from the megawatt mainframe With a suit made of electricity.. With a suit made of electricity I ran through the Great Wall of China, convincingly That was after the World Tour.. That was after the World Tour when I travelled through gravel and battled matter at the Earth's core I did the show on a fireball.. I did the show on a fireball, a pioneer ran into the jungle and jetted wearing a lion's ear I fought fear where the Hammer of Thor led me.. I fought fear where the Hammer of Thor led me and tangled with the Angel of Death for four centuries Put a nameplate on a asteroid belt.. Put a nameplate on a asteroid belt and I ran through the future with an android's help That's when civilians were made of metal.. That's when civilians were made of metal I received the Coronation cause I had the last flower petals My power settled a clash between races.. My power settled a clash between races and put good people on the magazine faces Substituted television scandals with elephants and pandas tell 'em it's the elegant commando With a hand so large.. With a hand so big, I punched a sphinx in the nose in the nose, decomposed, and so the story goes I smacked a 40o out of a young man's hand.. I smacked a 40 ounce, out of a young man's hand and fed him lesson's of life to formulate a plan I wore the Prime Meridian as a wrist band.. I wore the Prime Meridian as a wrist band and gave away my riches but I still remained a rich man I thought of freedom and I jetted to the Promised Land.. Also, sweetie, I know you're trying to be all "internet badass" and while I think it's adorable and all, rhythm is legitimate music, Rap is definitely music, that's an undeniable fact, to say otherwise would be like saying a bass line isn't music.

As much as I like rap music, it really has been lacking quality ever since Lil' Jon became popular... :(
That's not the case for all rappers though, there's real good underground hip-hop... :)

It's an old Yiddish word used to draw trolls out from under bridges. It's use has saved the lives of countless children since before the introduction of the automobile.

Also, sweetie, I know you're trying to be all "internet badass" and while I think it's adorable and all, rhythm is legitimate music, Rap is definitely music, that's an undeniable fact, to say otherwise would be like saying a bass line isn't music.

You can save the "sweetie" for when we're married cupcake. But congradulations on FINALLY being able to back up your point of view with something more substantial than insults like a typical "internet badass". *applaudes* Doesn't it feel good to express yourself?

Unbelievable! Wait...very believable. You're someone who spouts a rediculous comment that can only compliment someone in a way that is insulting. Congrats, ****.

You wanted us to provide you with evidence that was already in front of you face (posted by others), yet you call us internet bullies :D? Why would it be necessary to search out information when it was already here for you?

[QUOTE="Comorat"]So what you're saying is that I don't know what I'm talking about and stereotyping about rap when in fact you can't even post the words from your personal choice of rap music to listen to because it's too vulgar? I'd say that pretty much proves me right.

To dodge the fact that you using your age and "I've listened to a song or two" is a ludicrous and baseless "argument" for a second here, perhaps you should try posting lyrics to introspective, deep songs that you listen to. There are many great songs - in all genres - that use swear words. "Clean" lyrics aren't the only positive lyrics out there. But I suppose you've never heard of the word "context". And, there's a whole lot of hip-hop that does deal with things outside the misogynistic garbage that (I agree) pollutes minds - mostly involving discussions about sociopolitical issues, as well as a deeper exploration of black history (which I would assume is something you don't care too much about but is substantial nonetheless). Whether or not you agree with what's being said is irrelevant in discussing the validity and depth of rap lyrics past simple misogyny and "bling bling" rap.

"It's important, we communicate
and tune the fate of this union, to the right pitch
I never call you my ***** or even my boo
There's so much in a name and so much more in you
Few understand the union of woman and man
And sex and a tingle is where they assume that it land
But that's fly by night for you and the sky I write
For in these cold Chi night's moon, you my light
If heaven had a height, you would be that tall
Ghetto to coffee shop, through you I see that all
Let's stick to understandin and we won't fall
For better or worse times, I hope to me you call
So I pray everyday more than anything
friends will stay as we begin to lay
this foundation for a family - love ain't simple
Why can't it be anything worth having you work at annually
Granted we known each other for some time
It don't take a whole day to recognize sunshine"

- The Light, by Common
That *****? It's being used in a context that illustrates how he perceives something as a negative and instead takes the higher road.

"From North Carolina her grandmother would bring
news that she had had a dream
Her dreams always meant what they needed them to mean
What made them real was the action in between
She dreamt that Assata was free in they old house in Queens
The fact that they always came true was the thing
Assata had been convicted of a murder she couldna done
Medical evidence shown she couldna shot the gun
It's time for her to see the sun from the other side
Time for her daughter to be by her mother's side
Time for this Beautiful Woman to become soft again
Time for her to breathe, and not be told how or when
She untangled the chains and escaped the pain
How she broke out of prison I could never explain
And even to this day they try to get to her
but she's free with political asylum in Cuba."

- A Song for Assata, by Common
A song in reference to Assata Shakur and the turmoil surrounding the Black Panthers and the United States.

"Synthesizer, microwave me
Give me a drug so I can make seven babies
Pump my breasts up, can you suck the fat up?
Please make my life appear
like ain't no such thing as bad luck
My nose ain't right
Like I need a new one,
Just take your pick, a yellow red
A black or a blue one.
Virtual reality, virtual, [BULLCRAP]
Synthesizer preachers can reach you
up in the pulpit
Give me my gat so I can smoke this sucka
Tell his mamma not to cry
because they can clone him quicker
than it took his daddy to make him"

- Synthesizer, by OutKast (Verse by Andre Benjamin)

"Synthesizer" is a look into today's "artificial" society, where nose jobs, boob jobs and the like are prevalent. And I know you're just *itching* to jump on the "give me my gat" line but of course it both (a) acts as a satire on what he views as a problem in black society and (b) sets up the next line which further pushes the issue of our "artificial" tendencies ("clone him quicker than his daddy took to make him").

"Must've had a bad deal in the past though
Can't even keep it real with a brotha with cash flow
Say men are all the same, what we need to do is break this chain
You got a job part-time and school's your night thing
With dreams to settle down, it ain't far from now
You gettin interviewed, but your boss is into gettin screwed
Typical day that the black girl sees
Comin home wantin more from a college degree"

- Black Girl Lost, by Nas
This portion is a short commentary on the difficulties young black women faced at that time (1994) and perhaps still do.

"This is family business
And this is for everybody standin' with us
Come on, let's take a family Grammy picture
Hey B, remember when they ain't believe in me?
Now she like 'See, that's my cousin on TV'
Now, we gettin' it and we gon' make it
And y'all gon' hate it and I'm his favorite
I can't deny it, I'm a straight rider
But when we get together be electric slidin'
Grandma, get 'em shook up
Aw naw, don't open the photo book up
I got an Aunt Ruth that can't remember your name
But I bet them Polaroids'll send her down memory lane
You know that one auntie, you don't wanna be rude
But every holiday nobody eatin' her food
And you don't wanna stay there cuz them your worst cousins
Got roaches at their crib like them your first cousins
Act like you ain't took a bath with your cousins
Fit three in the bed while six of y'all
I'm talkin' 'bout three by the head and three by the leg
But you ain't have to tell my girl I used to pee in the bed"

- Family Business, by Kanye West
Simple: a song about family. The rest of the song deals with somewhat conflicted relationships and family troubles, while this verse deals with reminiscence.

There are many more verses if you're still convinced that you're somehow correct with your blanket-statement arguments.

Oh no, no I can assure you that I am THE Comorat. A name thats been around for years and (sadly) just happens to be shared as the last name of some guy that has/had his resume posted online. God I hope nobody ever mistook him for me. Hell I've even got my name in the Urban Dictionary, it's crazy. I'm only here because work has blocked the World of Warcraft forums, lol........

MrCHUP0N has pretty much owned everyone in this thread. You've spoken nothing but the truth. And I'm pretty surprised that you've managed to pull this out not from obscure rappers, but even from rappers that even MTV broadcasts them. The conclusions are clear - our dear Comorat should listen to some more songs before judging.

Actually according to the ToU most of your posts here - and elsewhere - are borderline trolling, if not downright offensive... not ROLFCHANK's response above.

As a hip hop fan, I'm glad the sales are down.  That way the only people who are making and listening to hip hop are people who actually care about it as an artform.  I hope the record companies and posers move on and find another genre to bastardize.  Hip hop will return to being an underground movement, as it should be.

Here's some funny Chris Rock standup on the state of Rap music.
