Well, I don't know about anyone else, but I love Science as well as being religious.

How do you justify this?

I love learning about Science and I am also religious is the best way I can put it.

Aren't the two not somewhat "contradictory" to you?

And it's Religion with a forty yard lead, will the newbie, Science, be able to overpower this ancient titan? Here comes Science now, approaching Religion, they're neck and neck, oh my Dawkins! Darwin has published Origin of the Species! Science takes the lead! But wait; is that eugenics Science is pulling? I do believe it is! That's a penalty for Science; Religion retakes the lead! Religion at the lead with Science trailing behind, it looks like it's all over, folks. . .wait! It seems the Pope has decried the use of condoms! Oooh, that's gonna knock Religion back for a while. It's Science in the lead again, Science ahead of religion by about twenty yards. . .and Roe v. Wade has been passed! The majority of Americans are outraged; the Catholic, Muslim and Jewish communities are in an uproarl Religion now neck in neck with Science! It's gonna be a close race, folks, I can't even tell who's ahead! Religion and Science approaching the finish line. . . .

Wow! It appears Science and Religion are not in any competition after all, so nobody wins! Religion and Science are shaking hands, telling the booing fans to shut up! There'll be riots over this, I tell you!

[QUOTE="cee1gee"][QUOTE="MattUD1"][QUOTE="cee1gee"] No..ofcourse it isnt 100 percent true, but what i am saying is to have a belief in afterlife is Much healthier and what i have studied is more people that werent scientifically advanced have had healthier minds... just look at the civilization today...many are suffering from depression and anxiety, there is rarely someone with a clear mind now a days..

So... the reason why people are depressed is because they believe in the powers of science...? Am I reading this right?

The scientific benefits that we have come with major flaws, just ask the people who were born in 1940s..the simple days (technology wise)

I am having a very difficult time understanding what it is you are trying to say exactly...

No they arent 100% contradictory. Sure there are some problems when trying to reconcile them but nothing that necessarily makes them incompatible.

Also I am interested to know what does a person do when he is rejecting science in order for that rejection to not be hypocritical and actually for it to be evident through ones life.

Do you not use computers? Do you not use medicine? Do you not read geography books? Do you believe everything scientists say is a lie?

Why should we as human's believe in something that doesn't exsist? Religion was created to explain the unexplainable, but now with modern science, the unexplainable is mostly explainable. Religion had its time, but it is no longer needed in society.

But religion does exist. . .and if it wasn't needed then it wouldn't be here. It's generally not a very good idea to attribute one "cause" to religion because there are many possible causes.

I think it isn't a point of being need rather than just people practicing it (and believeing in it) because it was/is how they were/are raised, ofcouse my hypothesis hasn't been tested, or studied, nor will it always be true, but that is still my hypothesis.

If that were the case then religion wouldn't exist in the first place. It also doesn't explain adult converts, multicultural converts, etc.

Without trying to turd on anyone's parade, science and religion are totally incompatable. Science involves an un-biased attempt at explaining the World in which we live in, and Religion assumes certain irrationial preconditions based on former pious, ignorant, and sanctimonious elements of Human history..

Allow me to broker peace between religious folks and skeptical science folks. You could say that religion/spirituality and science embody two differing, yet necessary sides of human intelligence. Religion and spirituality represent compassion, empathy, and idealism - the distincly human desire to "make the world a better place". While science represents logic and progress - the distinctly human desire to constantly advance one's quality of life and understanding of the universe around them. Both science and spirituality are necessary for human civilization.

I was doing my own study and heres what i came up with...Ok i say Religion is healthier and more safe then Science because my sources are backing it up.

we have the pros and cons of both ofcourse

Pros of Religion: To have faith in something out there, certain religion less likely to kill people because they dont want to go to hell, keeps a healthier mind to "pray" and have something to look foward to when dying instead of just plain old dying.

Cons of Religion: The people who believe when that they can kill people as long as its for a good cause "in their opinion" and bring them closer to god..im speaking about terrorists that are very religious..and not just middle eastern

Pros in Science: bringing us foward in present life and certain futures with technology, history that is explained scientifically keeps us busy reading and watching the history of earth and such

Cons in Science: Too much knowledge is Failure, scientifically there was no reports of most diseases that are present today, and i question that why is such a natural thing to do "mating" can cause death..i am talking about the hiv virus, people with no belief in afterlife tend to cause more crimes "yes i looked it up"

if anyone would like to add anything please do..no i am not trolling just a simple study

cee1gee

You say your "sources" back up your claim up, and yet strangely enough, you cite no sources.

Even if It could be proven that being religious gives you a healthier mind it would have no bearing on fact. Ignorance is bliss in other words.

They sat in puddles and waited for an early death.

i loled...but hey thats your opinion

Fo a serious answer:

Science did not exist on that timeon it's present form, but aslong as human think they will always strive to gain knowledge. I don't see why both religion and science can coexist with each other.

However i'm an atheist, and religion dosn't make me me feel full when the answer to anything is "God made it, don't try to discover how that works"

Socrates said: "I only know i know nothing" The point of science (and philosophy) is to know. Not to stop on the "God"answer.

Religion is not necessary for compassion, empathy and idealism thank you very much. Religion is not necessary for morals at all.

This is the whole basis of religion! It is like some bogus superficial "drug" which has no basis in reality, which is designed to "mentally" sedate masses of simple folk. This was the intention of the Church for centuries past, and amazingly enough, it still somehow manages to work today!
