Actually I'm currently enrolled in a private university (in my second year) and am planning to do graduate work in Economics later. My family consists of people who are all college graduates and that includes three doctorate holders. Just because I'm living a relatively stable and comfortable life does not make be oblivious to the people who are less fortunate. So stop acting like a degenerate and show some sense.

I'm going to graduate with my degree at the end of the year and I think Novotine is just being silly.

couple of things:

+ The 47% only refers to workers that don't pay federal income taxes.

+ Which also includes chidlren, domestic workers and elderly.

+ as well as workers who still have to pay social security, medicare and tax withholdings.

+ Out tax code is progressive, meaning higher incomes are asked to pay a larger percentage.

+ A family earning less than $30,000/yr can pay no federal income tax with standard deductions.

So this debate is really about, should our tax be based on population or income?
