[QUOTE="nomadph"]so you mean to say, america will take the slack when china cuts off its trading with the rest of the world? can america compete with what china has been offering for years now? (low cost output of products / hiring for workers)CaptHawkeye
Sure it can. Remember the 50s? The Industrial output of the United States during the post World War 2 years was more than 50% world GDP. I'm not kidding you, the United States was outproducing the rest of the entire world combine.
lolz during the 50s most countries in the world were still underdeveloped, which is why you can claim the "50%" number. many countries have progressed in the last 50 odd years. the united states cannot pick up the slack, if it could, then why are there more "made in china" products in the world then "made in america"? because it could not compete as well anymore.
and how would you know it's not true? please elaborate. are you saying america has a right to influence or tell other neutral countries not to trade with another country in times of war?
Unfortunantly, that's America for you.
thing is, in times of war, why would the neutral (non allies) countries in the world listen to america? what incentive? will USA bomb them if they buy from china and make propaganda that those neutral countries that buy from china are allies of china? if american citizens think their government will do this, then your concept of anti-communism is terribly flawed.
america will take the bigger hit in the economy. go to your mall. check out how many things there are made from china.
Sorry kid, but reliance is the other way around. What do you think China has invested most of its economy in? The USD, just like every other major economy in the world. THe United States uses China as a producer of cheap mass produced products. It doesn't mean they have to use them. The United States invests in China for the sheer convenience of it. If China were to suddenly withdraw from trade with the United States, the US economy would go into a temporary recession. Until its industrial power could be geared up again. China's economy would collapse, we're talking about a country that can barely feed its people for christ sake. Do you have any idea how incredibly fragile the Chinese economy is?
it is not convenience, but rather cheaper. why wouldn't your country invest in your own? because it is cheaper to have it in china. indeed, it will go down in temporary recession, however, the time it takes until "industrial power" be "geared up again" would be too long. by that time, america will no longer be one of the "superpower" of the world.
china's economy will not collapse, because it has the rest of the world to rely on. united states will collapse, because its items for "industrial" use will, one form or another, come from some factory made in china, just through another country.
all countries have hungry people. and what do you mean by china being a country that could "barely feed its people?". this isn't some stereotype africa image you're having about some thin boy that is hungry?
do you have any idea how incredibly fragile america's economy is also? the reason why currency in asia is growing stronger is because US currency is growing weaker by the day, fyi.
