http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_lesbian_prom_date#mwpphu-container wtf is this? School officials are some of the dumbest people i've ever read about. Not just for this case but for every ****ing thing. I could go on and on with stories but just go to google and type in "student(s) suspended for... and you'll get all kinds of examples of why school officials probably use the least common sense out of any profession out there. I feel so bad for her and generally the students at the school.

Cancelling prom is an overreaction, but they do have the right to enforce a dress code. . . .Theokhoth
sometimes you've just got to make an example out of those who feel the need to protest the loudest.

[QUOTE="Ring_of_fire"]people who "pretend to be gay just for attention, aren't gay I'm saying people who are actually gay are not doing it for attentionSeraphimGoddess
Problem is with that though, it's hard to tell when they're pretending or not sometimes.

One will eventually figure out if one is gay or not gay But is it so hard to just give someone the benefit of the doubt? Why diminish someone's self value saying that they are only gay to get attention, when it's generally not the case?

[QUOTE="BiancaDK"][QUOTE="garrett_duffman"] not to mention the use of "ever' because thats a load of bull. girls do all kinds of crap for attention. how come there are SOOO many lesbians/bi people in school, but in the real world, there arent nearly as many? its because highschool girls are fake. they do what they think will get them attention, and do it just because they can get attention. it may be subconcious, but it is almost always for attention.

Guys do all kinds of crap for attention too. By your criterias, highschool guys are fake too. Also, seeking attention isn't a bad thing, whether or not it is appropriate is completely circumstantial and it is also a very human thing to do. Most of us, if not all of us are guilty of seeking attention at one time in our lives. One of the reasons you might find the number of apparent homosexuals and bisexuals to drop when these kids enter adult society, could be that as young adult, you have a tendency to experiment, and to test the limits of your enviroment. It doesen't really all have to be about getting attention, it can just as well be a process instigated by a desire to explore yourself and who you are, identity wise.

there is nothing wrong with experimentation, so long as you arent deeming youself part of the group you are experimenting with. you can experiment with homosexual activities and NOT have to have other people call you gay/call yourself gay the problem with the higschool girls in general, aside from boys, is that they are less willing to experiment without entitlement. if they try something, they HAVE to be recognized for it. Guys do stuff for attention, but it usually just gets them called a dumbass, and then its over. guys typically don't hold onto titles as much as girls do.

Being gay or lesbian is not a call for attention. If anyone is seeking attention, it's the overreaction (saying the very least, in the most generous way) of the school board that is it.

Yes they are seeking attention. Most gay people keep to themselves and avoid PDA, especially in Mississippi.

[QUOTE="garrett_duffman"] well, unlike the rest of the world, SCHOOLS HAVE A DRESS CODE.

This is prom not a regular lessons therfore the dress code does not apply. They should be allowed to wear whatever they want and be whatever sexuality they want no matter if it's deemed as 'fake' by others or not.

Oh yeah, that totally gives you carte blanche to overreact. It's an overreaction, it is by it's very definition too much, example or no example.

there is nothing wrong with experimentation, so long as you arent deeming youself part of the group you are experimenting with.garrett_duffman
there's little wrong with perceiving yourself to belong to whatever group you are practicing your experiments in relation to. If a girl thinks she is bisexual, only to discover later on in life that she is in fact not bisexual, why hold her former convictions against her, if she honestly believes they might have been something there. It's really a question of intentions, if anything. There's always the rotten apples in the bunch spoiling it for everyone else, but that does not make it fair to generalize them like that.
you can experiment with homosexual activities and NOT have to have other people call you gay/call yourself gay the problem with the higschool girls in general, aside from boys, is that they are less willing to experiment without entitlement. if they try something, they HAVE to be recognized for it. Guys do stuff for attention, but it usually just gets them called a dumbass, and then its over. guys typically don't hold onto titles as much as girls do. garrett_duffman
Your example here only goes to show a crude double standard, based on dubious preconceived notions of the intentions of others. Getting yourself recognized and thus validated by others is something i find guys exercising as much as girls do, but in a slightly different way. The end result is the same though.

Hey, guys, this is a religious debate AND a "racial" debate, even though gay's are really a race.

Consider this, Rosa Parks was arrested for not moving from her seat. The law said she HAD to move for a white person, but she rebelled and got arrested for it.

The same damn situation is here, there was an unfair law, she rebelled against it, and was punished.

The whole homosexual thing going on today is no different than the situation the blacks went through in the 1960's. ANYONE. ANYONE AGAINST GAY MARRIAGE, GAY RIGHTS, GAY ANYTHING are BIGOTS, and no better than the people who were racists and oppressed people of color. This whole topic makes me sick, because religion has EVERYTHING to do with it.

A Feb. 5 memo to students laid out the criteria for bringing a date to the prom, and one requirement was that the person must be of the opposite sex.

That school is messed up.

I find it odd that some of the students reacted against the student complaining ("ruined my senior year" is an example) when it was the school's decision to call it off for everyone, even though they easily could've amended their prom rules to match the advice from the ACLU.

Most people know their sexuality by 10. So no it isn't attention seeking just because she is young. I think it's mental they did that. At our prom we could go in groups of friends or in same-sex couples. The school wasn't bothered what we did as long as we didn't drink underage.

this has absolutely NOTHING to do with civil rights. Prom wasnt canceled because she was gay it was canceled because an attention craved girl had to put up a fuss about a rule that she refuses to follow, which, by definition, could deem her a Terrorist, if you want to start throwing terms around that really don't belong here. The only reason why this could be construed as being "against gays" is because yahoo news said that the girl was gay and thats a load.

Why did she want to wear a tuxedo anyway? They make such a big deal about that, almost to the point that if they both wore a dress it would be fine, but nobody seemed to ask that question. Pretty stupid. Lol at the dufus who said, 'Thanks for ruining my senior year.' --- High school, serious business.

[QUOTE="Jfisch93"]

[QUOTE="garrett_duffman"] you cant really compare the civil rights movement to some attention-craved highschool girl getting prom cancelled for EVERYONE... thats not cool... garrett_duffman

How the hell can you prove that she did it for attention? She should be able to wear what she want, as long as it isn't revealing. and this IS a civil rights movement, it's the homosexual community's turn to rise up against white conservative christians.

this has absolutely NOTHING to do with civil rights.

I was going to say something, but I won't in fear of being suspended.

"A Feb. 5 memo to students laid out the criteria for bringing a date to the prom, and one requirement was that the person must be of the opposite sex." That right there is against gays.

true fact. why couldnt this girl have just worn a dress with her significant other? but noooo, she had to violate dress code regulations and dress up as a guy, and get prom cancelled for EVERYONE. she got exactly what she wanted, and its too bad everyone else in her class had to miss out on prom because of it. garrett_duffman

They wouldn't have let her go with her date even if she had worn a dress. Besides, it's the school board's fault the prom was cancelled, rather than let someone date who they want they cancelled the entire event.

Have you even met this chick? So how could you possibly know why she did it?

because she is a 999,999 and a million girl. there is no reason to want to wear a tux at prom THAT BAD that you would rather have prom cancelled for EVERYONE.

doesnt matter. she could have went "on her own" with her friend, and that would not have been an issue.

[QUOTE="racer8dan"]They can claim to be christians all they want, but it doesn't really matter, hell is their destination. If you say your a christian then you believe the bible, if you believe the bible, then you believe whats written in it, if you believe whats written in it, you believe homosexuality is an abominable sin, sin takes you to hell.

racer8dan

I hope you don't ever lie.

Its called repentance, you can't repent and keep on sinning the same sin.

Then I reiterate: I hope you never lie *again*.
