He is a left wing nut, so he wont get fired.
But anyway if he gets away with this, then why did Imus get fired. BS all the way.

Maher is lame anyway. Who listens to him?Godly_Cure
I actually kinda like Maher's show. I don't like Maher in particular, but the guests on his show are usually a lot more intelligent than you'll find on any other political show.
If you don't like him, just don't watch him.
Imus should not have been fired either.
joeytentz
That's all there is to it
There's a little thing called freedom of speech. You might have heard of it. Very nice benefit.
I don't think Bill Maher should be fired for what he said. He was speaking his mind. And besides, he's on HBO. I don't think they'd give a damn.
Pat Robertson pulls crap like this almost all the time on Christian television and I don't think he's in any danger of losing his job.
ninjacat11
[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"][QUOTE="ninjacat11"]Then again, he works for HBO. They're probably not going to pull a CBS and fire him.
ninjacat11
Depends....he offended a large segment of the population. No employer wants bad publicity.
True...but then again, these are the same people who made The Sopranos and Rome.
i never saw Rome, but i don't think the Sopranos is offensive to anyone.[QUOTE="whipassmt"]i'm surprised that nobody voted for him to apologize or for people not to watch his stupid show.LJS9502_basic
Well I never watch his show. I prefer intelligent shows.
well, we know that Maher's show is not an intelligent show. An intelligent show requires an intelligent host and an intelligent audience.[QUOTE="jointed"]He was forced to join Hitler Youth, he didn't believe in what they taught obviously because catholics were killed in the holocaust as well as members of other religions. In his trip the Pope called the Nazis a "sinister regime". I also saw on tv, that Ratzinger disliked the Nazis when he was young because they killed his cousin for being handicapped.Well, he was a member of the Hitler Jugend...but the pedophile comments were uncalled for.
Don't think he should be fired though...
UrbanSpartan125
The Fact is that christians/catholics are really sensitive to people attacking them and their beliefs. God forbid a COMEDIAN talk show host calls the pope such names. He should not be fired---what part of what he said was wrong? He was a nazi and yes, there were/are still pedophile priests out there. FACT. feryl06
When he calls it a pedophile cult, yeah theres reasons to be ticked off.
As I said, Catholics are one of the last groups in America where its okay to bash them.
It looks like Maher's gonna be fired, i checked FireBillMaher.com and so far there are 78042813 signatures on the petition to fire him, it takes up 7 pages.whipassmt
..and that means he's going to get fired?

FACT. feryl06yeah if Christians are oversensitive what do you call other religions that utter death threats, blow stuff up and declare Jihad against people who make a disrespectful cartoon of one of their religious figures. or what about the people who made such an uproar and caused Imus to be fired just because he called some women "nappy headed hoes" (and they probably are) or got Dog the Bounty hunter's show cancelled because he said the N word, is that not oversensitive. or what about Isaiah Washington who was sent to "rehab" (or brainwashing as i consider it in this case) just because he made a "homophobic" remark.

if HBO starts losing money because of this big-nosed idiot, they will fire him.[QUOTE="sammyjenkis898"][QUOTE="whipassmt"]It looks like Maher's gonna be fired, i checked FireBillMaher.com and so far there are 78042813 signatures on the petition to fire him, it takes up 7 pages.whipassmt

I'm sure that will happen..They'll fire one of their hit shows just because of some website..
It's not like christians/catholics watched this show constantly before he said that..
You're acting like this is the first time he has ever said anything offensive about christians/catholics.
He makes me laugh.
:)
If you don't like him, just don't watch him.
Imus should not have been fired either.
joeytentz
Wrong. That's like saying that a McDonalds employee shouldn't be fired for walking up to a customer and calling them a stupid ****head.
If you stand to lose money for your employer, then they have a very good reason to fire you. That does not necessarily mean that one SHOULD get fired, but it's completely up to the employer's discretion. If it turns out that they do fire you, then its your own fault for not watching your mouth.

LukeAF24
That sounds just about right. People care to much about what other people say. Who cares? Don't like it, don't watch it. Simple.
That's EXACTLY a reason to fire him.
HBO WANTS people to watch HBO. If people STOP watching HBO because of someone's comments, then that's a very good reason for HBO to get rid of that person.

Usually controversy will improve ratings.

Wow, thats a bit harsh. Opposing opinions need to kill themselves?

If it improves ratings, he'll keep his job.
If it hurts ratings, he very well may lose his job.
If you recall, Politically Incorrect used to be on ABC before it got cancelled due to Maher's comments about September 11. Granted, ABC is different than HBO in that ABC relies on money from advertisers, but the point still stands that this has already happened once to the exact same guy.
Will he get fired again? Idon't know. But if he does get fired, he should have watched his mouth.

YEs it is harsh but see they dont just have opinions they rally and force there will on others and dont stop till it works for them.
While we're at it, why don't we start petitions to fire Rus Limbaugh, Bill O' Reily, and pretty much every one on the 700 club with Pat Robertson. All of these people have said stupid stuff and continue to do so, where are the petitions to their views off the air? Donkey_Puncherwhile Robertson, O'Reilly and Limbaugh may say some dumb stuff, i don't think they ever said anything as bad as this intolerant punk Maher has.

But what is so bad about it. It is his opinion and he has every right to have his opinion. I have alot of problems with what the church says but that is there opinion and that is the great thing about this country.
Bill Maher host an extreme liberal talk show of sorts. As a result, the topics he discusses with guests and whatnot are extremely liberal and anticonservative (aka antireligion, as well).
So no, he should not be fired lol.
No because on HBO you are allowed to say things that you normally would not be able to say on regular television. Besides, his comments are fully justified and people sjhould lighten up on what others say. Since when did Freedom of Speech die out?cpo335
Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences. You are given the right to voice your opinion. However, if you do so in the public arena, you should accept the consequences that may result. Not everyone will agree with what you have to say and may take offense at what you say. Just like you have the right to say whatever you'd like, the public has the right to boycott you.
And i would hardly say that his comments are fully justified.
My opinion on this issue has already been expressed by other people in this topic:
No, he should not be fired, because he, like any other American, has the freedom of speech. Honestly, as a born Roman Catholic, I don't care what he says about anything.
The guys lucky he criticised Christians, who seem to be fair game for comedians to crack jokes at,but if he had said the same thing about muslims, god there would have been riots in the streets and burning effigies of this unfunny man.
I'm not a Christian, but I really can't stand this man and his show, not to mention his audiences who seem to have the mental age of 12 year olds, whooping and laughing at anything even remotely funny he says.
