Bill Maher called Pope Benedict XVI a "nazi" and "a leader of a pedophile cult". Now there is an effort to boycott HBO until he is fired. What do you think. Well If Don Imus was fired for his comments about the Rutgers basketball team and Dog the Bounty Hunter's show was cancelled because he used the N word, Maher should definitely be fired because what he said was much worse than what the others said.

My thing is just like Don Imus, who gives a **** honestly. People are free to say what they want, and if you can't accept people's opinions then why the hell are you even on a forum of all places?

Secondly I feel that there are a lot more things to be worried about in this country then what people's opinions are on certain subjects, especially people with talk shows.

wasn't the Pope a former Nazi youth anyway???

so what he was forced into it. And he's not a leader of a "pedophile cult".

Nice damage control.. What he said was partially true.. Notice that he was a Nazi youth.. And notice that when those priests got caught touching those little boys, they didn't get fired, arrested, etc etc they got moved.. He made a VERY good point, that if this wasn't a major religion orginization there would be a huge controversy and many arrests.. But due to this they were "moved around", this speaks loads in my eyes about the Pope.

The guys lucky he criticised Christians, who seem to be fair game for comedians to crack jokes at,but if he had said the same thing about muslims, god there would have been riots in the streets and burning effigies of this unfunny man.

I'm not a Christian, but I really can't stand this man and his show, not to mention his audiences who seem to have the mental age of 12 year olds, whooping and laughing at anything even remotely funny he says.

stvee101

Thats funny because he goes after Muslim culture ALOT, and constantly talks about how inferior many cultures in the middle east are.

not really, have you looked at other religions? don't make it seem like poor ol' catholicism, please. Other religions are made fun of or are part of jokes daily.

[QUOTE="feryl06"]The Fact is that christians/catholics are really sensitive to people attacking them and their beliefs. God forbid a COMEDIAN talk show host calls the pope such names. He should not be fired---what part of what he said was wrong? He was a nazi and yes, there were/are still pedophile priests out there. FACT. InterpolWilco

When he calls it a pedophile cult, yeah theres reasons to be ticked off.

As I said, Catholics are one of the last groups in America where its okay to bash them.

If we do still live in a Constitutional Republic then ABSOLUTELY NOT, what he has said is protected by a "God Damn piece of paper". I cant believe people actually are raising a big fit out of this, it must suck to be a catholic. Shamed by the actions of the church they are a part of, if they only knew how deep the rabbit hole really goes...

I'm catholic and I just don't give a **** what people think thats all, because you know what at the end of the day what people say is not going to matter. I'm still going to have to wake up in the morning and go to work and pay my bills. Thats all, so what someone thinks about catholics or the pope, I really don't care. He has a right to his own opinion, but unfortunately people don't see it that way. Which is a shame.

Agreed, our right to Freedom of Speech far superceeds the words of some jerkoff on HBO.

He is the leader of pedo cults. Like Mexico with it's high number of Catholics and 12 years old age of consent. He's even encouraging them to enter the US illegaly.pseudodog07

Don't forget he has told them that safe sex practices are wrong and should not be taught.. Which has lead Central america to sky rocket in STD spread and pregancies.

Freedom speech does not mean freedom from criticism. You are free to voice your opinions, but you are not free from the fallout that may cause. You start preaching hate or intolerance, don't be surprised if people ask for your resignation. Freedom of speech just means that you don't get tossed in jail for speaking out. Others are just as capable of excercising their freedoms and call for your resignation.

That's the way people like Maher think, apparently. YES, the pope was a member of the Hitler Youth. He was forced to join at age 14 (LIKE ALL 14 YEAR OLD BOYS IN GERMANY) but he refused to attend meetings and his father was a bitter enemy of nazism. But bill maher somehow thinks the pope was shouting heil hitler or something:?

I don't agree with the guy generaly, but this is quite funny. The Nazi part was uncalled for, but the rest is fine. I don't think the Pope should be arrested, but as the catholic leader he needs to get his cult in line now

Although Maher couldn't have said it more blunt, there is truth in his statements. The stigma concerning Catholic priests and their conduct will not subside until their actions change for the better, and since the Pope is in charge of the church, I agree that he should be held responsible for the actions of his followers.

I grew up Catholic, and though I respect the teachings of the church, I've moved further and further away from it. Bill Maher isn't showing any respect to the Pope, but his analogies are very concrete. We need people like Maher to keep the first amendment sacred, even though we may not agree with him.

These people truly hurt America's image more than you will ever know.

It's incredibly emabarassing.

Freedom of speech is one thing, but saying outlandish statements with no bearing of fact diminishes not only yourself but everyone around you.

Well we all know that Bill Maher is an icon on tv. He does have his rights. It is a free country and whatever he wants to say he says it no matter what people will think of him. Personally I dont think he shjould be fired but I don't like what he did on the show.
